Archie's penalty Yep I'll be supporting Swindon on Saturday. Who cares about Millwall?

I assume you mean next Saturday?

Got to say Millwall. Easier to get to for me and having been to the Den in season just gone, superb atmosphere.

I don't understand why Reading fans don't want a local rival in the division. Surely the whole point of rivalry is that we are able to compete against each other? Obviously I wouldn't want a rival team to overtake us, but an intra-division rivalry sounds a lot better than an inter-division one to me.

Surely a local derby is something fans should want and not hate?

Swindon aren't really arsed about us and its been a while since they were good enough for us to be arsed about them, they'll probably consider bristol city as their rivals when promoted.

We've played them more times than anybody and I'm sure it's the same for them.

No he's actually right - Swindon tend to see Oxford as their main rival - we see both more as rivals than they see us - our main rivalry is Aldershot. Both sets of fans do always look out for the game though and the atmosphere is always a bit more lively than your usual game.

Agreed mate, its more an on the day rivalry than anything else. Quite spicy on the day but nothing more. I guess if Swindon come up there is a chance it will be reignited like the early 90's and before.

Started to watch Reading in the 60s and I learned pretty quickly from my uncles that Sw*ndon were very much the local rivals. History of games went back a long way; and always big crowds at Elm Park for the derbies, if not the biggest of the season. Even as a kid, I could sense there was something special about these games and it has stuck.

Back then, the Pox were just the new snotty-nosed kid on the block with little 'history' and as for the Shite, our paths very rarely crossed except for cup games.

Nice of the Sky to have the camera's facing the only stand that has a crowd at Rotherham.

It's odd, I'm from a similar generation to Ark and Bowman and my formative years watching RFC were the 70's.

I'd definitely say the order of rivalry (from an RFC perspective) is/was

Aldershot
Swindon
Oxford

then, miles after that, AFCB and Brentford.

What is without question is that only Aldershot is mutual.

I know they dislike us from experiencing it first hand in a friendly, but when were we actually playing them regularly enough to be rivals? must have been decades ago and they are such a small club I can't come to terms with it.
