World Cup betting

by LUX » 25 May 2010 21:56

prices seem tight to me. Spain are good, but 4's in such a tight field?

I'd love England to win, obviously, but 6-1 is poor value.

I'll probably do Argentina at 7s and Germany each way at 14s.

I might stick some on Spain and Argentina...I think you can get 8s for the Argentines.

England should be around the 12-14's price.

Holland might be worth a shout this time round.

Milito e/w for top scorer could well be worth a punt.

I like Brazil. I've already had a little dabble at 5's and I'm slightly surprised they go in as second favourites. They might not have the flair or charisma of previous Brazillian legendary sides but they are much like Dunga was as a player. They are workman-like, difficult to break down and will hit sides on the counter attack. Set pieces they are exceptionally good on and I fancy them to win the tournament this time round.

Spain are an exceptionally good footballing side however with an array of talent in midfield and up front but it's a different pressure. They got an easy draw in the group stage but you just never know about them when they get into the last 16/last 8, something tends to go against them along the way.

Group's A, D, and G all have potential to be interesting betting markets. I can't see Portugal getting out of the Group stage. The only thing that will go in their favour is whether Ivory Coast pick up injuries to their first eleven along the way as the back-up in the squad is nowhere near as good.

If Torres gets fit then he's good at 12s IMO. I'll back Spain outright, haven't decided on the outsider on an each-way but thinking Germany or maybe France if Malouda and Ribery deliver.

Germany are a pretty decent price, you have to fancy them to make the semis, by which time their price would be 5-6/1 at it's biggest, probably shorter.

Big Foot Portugal at 25's looks like a good outside bet to me

Missed their 0-0 draw v The Cape Verde Isles the other night then?

Germany seem well overpriced in a lopp sided draw.

Unless their is a Mutiny how can you back Argentina ? Maradona lost the plot so much in qualifying Xavier Zanetti instructed his players to ignore him completely. Zanetti dropped as a result along with teammate Cambiasso. Milito is 3rd choice behin Higuain and Messi if you are thinking of backing him as top scorer.

I wouldnt be surpised in Maradona walks out mid tournament.

Not bothered by friendlies, tournament football brings about it's own challenges and stresses which other players may thrive in

Like I say, they are a good outside bet

Learnt my lesson with Portugal at Euro 2008. Going forward they are good but defensively they are woeful. They struggled through qualifiers and I won't be surprised if it's an early flight home for them

Tevez not even getting a look in

If i was Maradona, i'd play Messi behind Milito and Tevez.

I know a thoroughly recommendable local firm called Marlin Racing who price the win market thus.

Spain 4
Brazil 4
EngLOLand 13/2
Argies 8
Holland 12
Wops 12
Krauts 12
Frogs 16
Portugal 28
33 bar

Spot on IMHO
