I said months ago that if he moved up a division or two, then there is no reason why he cant become an England International in the Euros/next world cup

Charlie also played for AFC Newbury with me up to U15's along with Theo Walcott. Also i played cricket against them, both captains for the Hungerford and Compton Youth teams. Awesome to see them doing so well, but a shame i havn't the same success....

Since Swindon did not make it, maybe both Austin and Paynter could be worth a shout? Scored loads of goals and should be able to meet the wage bill?

Wasn't a miss. Completely the pitches fault as it bounced up right before he hit that. Im afraid the FA really need to take a look at themselves for allowing professional matches on that surface. Whats the point in spending 800 million on a ground when the pitch is no better than my back garden? Its embarrassing. There is no doubt austin would have scored without that bobble.

That aside, we are not an ambition spending club, we are a selling club so will not be making a big for austin. May as well close the thread.

apparently Austin just signed a new contract. Swindon would want minimum 2.5 mio quid.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment, finers, the pedant in me means I have to disagree with your first three words - if it wasn't a miss, then shirley he scored?

Leeds have just signed Billy Paynter on a free, possible missed opportunity there?

I know he has been injured recently but in the few games I have seen he hasn't looked that special.
Also what type of forward do we want ,if any?
This season we should surely only be looking at players that we think could be capable of playing in The Premiership within the next couple of years and not players who at best are only ever likely to be Championship level-we have enough of those already.

I agree in principle BR, but we might also just need to get in players for the short term aim of getting promotion rather than being able to maintain us in the Premiership.

I think we need a bit of experience in our side and that may well mean that we have to get players who are at the top of their game and effective at this level, but won't be a lot of good in the Premiership if we go up. Players to play a similar role to that of Makin the last time round.

I don't think we can afford to get in players who all show the Premiership potential right now, mainly because the Premiership teams will be onto them already and willing to pay more in fees and wages than we could.
