chilipepper91 Now a rumour that King is out and Dawson is in

*times*

BBC notes that Dawson has never been capped.

Bent, Johnson, Walcott, Baines, King OUT

Probably Huddlestone and Parker now then

Urinal Mint I'm just trying to digest Heskey going to the World Cup.

Perhaps you should take a look at the role he's played for England over all these years and how important he's been in a lot of our successes since he got in the squad then....

Bent isn't capable of doing any better, nor is anyone else who's available, so why the need to belittle him?

As mentioned, he's scored something like 3 goals this season and struggled to get into the Villa team. He's never been a goalscorer. It just highlights how poor our striker options are when you see him going to a World Cup. Sure he can hold the ball up, but that's not enough for me. Just my opinion of course.

When he plays for England it's not just about holding the ball up, it's about doing the donkey work to create the space, occupy and wear down the centre backs to get the best out of our world class players (Gerrard and more specifically Rooney).

He could score more goals of course, in an ideal world, but that isn't the be all and end all even for a centre forward.

As for his performances for Villa this season, he's been kept out of the Villa side by Carew who's had an excellent last 6 months from what I've seen. I'm not entirely sure why O'Neil wanted him to be honest but I would guess it's because he had to build a squad so that they didn't peter out in the last month or so of the season like the year before. Having more depth in the squad was probably his answer, so Heskey wasn't ever likely to play, and therefore score, that much really.

Baines should have gone instead of Warnock. Warnock was terrible against us.

Bent doesn't contribute to the team in the same way.

If Heskey's presence means that the other striker and the midfielders score more, then he's worth more than some headless chicken who is fast, can roast some pish defenders but can't link play to the better players in the side. It is about him getting the ball back to the midfielders and creating space between the opposition defence and midfielder which players like Gerrard and Lampard thrive off. He also stops the opposition defence and defensive midfield settling on the ball.

What's perhaps damning is that Crouch hasn't been used in a like-for-like way and that other potential line-leading forwards haven't been tried (well, maybe. Agbonlahor got some caps, there's Zamora and then ... oh ... ).

Stats show Warnock is by far the better defender though. Baines scored one to Warnock's 0, and Baines had something like 7 assists to Warnock's 1. But the best tackler by a mile is Warnock.

If what I just saw is right, Emile Heskey scored 3 goals this season and only had 8 shots on target!
Bent scored 24 and had 25 on target.

It's all about how they play with the rest of the England team though, NOT the stats they rack up playing for their club sides....FFS!

Have you not considered that forming an opinion on the basis of one 90 min cup tie is a little flawed?

1411: BBC sports news correspondent Dan Roan says he has it on good authority that Ledley King is IN the England World Cup squad.

Watched him vs Chelsea in the FA Cup and he was pretty useless.

I've also watched Baines in the UEFA Cup (last season) and he looked natural at that level. Good on set-pieces. He was obviously first choice out of the two, but that mistake against Mexico has cost him his place. So how can you judge on one error?
