I think they're trying to live within their means.

EDIT - I mean, its relative, innit? Compared to most of the teams in the league, they can spend a fair bit. The odd genuinely expensive player, maintain a reasonably big squad. But compared to the teams they're competing with - Villa, City, Spurs - and they have a fraction of the wealth that those teams can and do generate.

They've been trying to move to a bigger stadium.
They regularly have to sell players to try and raise funds for other parts of the squad (recently Lescott and Johnson were sold for £10 million +)
They make a big deal of getting youth players to come up and challenge for the first team.

Ideal Why? Don't they have a decent sized stadium and everything?
They should be generating plenty of revenue? Maybe they have been paying excessive wages?

Everton and Spurs average about the same gate, but Spurs' tickets are probably about 50% more.

They'll get roughly the same TV money of course, but Spurs will generate a hell of a lot more revenue through commercial and corporate activity etc.

In fact, Spurs revenue for 2009 was £113m, Everton's was £79m. Enough of a difference to mean that Everton, who as papereyes say don't mortgage their future for short term success and don't have a sugar daddy pumping lots of cash into their coffers, can't compete with the big boys financially.

Darren Ambrose to join QPR for far less than market value after today's 3pm deadline for the proposed winding up of CPFC.

25 years old and three seasons at Swindon, not bad for a journeyman

journeyman = lots of clubs, he's had 5 now and he's only 25, if he was any good he wouldn't be pimped around the lower divisions so much, one half decent season doesn't make him good enough for leeds or the championship, he may yet prove me wrong but from what I saw in the play-off final against a decent defense he barely touched the ball

f365 I see Jelle van Damme has signed for Wolves and is hoping to improve on his previous time in the PL. To be honest, I think he's set himself a pretty hard target, and given the sides coming up, joining Wolves is a policy of almost maximum risk. Hopefully he hasn't signed his own death warrant, but really if he has a bad season, if they go down he'll have nowhere to run.

Well yday Redknapp said he though Cole was off somewhere and I thought it would be a) a top side and b) most likely a London one.

My money would've been on Spurs but after Redknapp ruled that out I did wonder about Arsenal.

He fits in perfectly with their style of play. Bargain of the summer for Arsenal.

http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/828929-joe-cole-to-join-arsenal-on-free-transfer-after-signing-three-year-deal

Although since the story broke, John Cross of the Daily Mirror who is the man in the know at Arsenal said "Joe Cole has 100% NOT signed for Arsenal. Checked it, it's not true. They like him but Joe wants to concentrate on WC, decision after SA "

If true that's a fantastic bit of business by Wenger.
