Sam Allardyce believes Zurab Khizanishvili should leave Blackburn for the sake of his own career.
The Georgia international moved to Ewood Park in 2006 but has fallen down the pecking order in recent years and spent time on loan at Newcastle and Reading last season.
Khizanishvili has not been able to secure a permanent switch this summer and his future remains uncertain, with a year still left on his Rovers contract.
Allardyce admits the 28-year-old defender does not figure in his plans for the new campaign and would prefer a sale rather than another loan, insisting that Blackburn would not block any reasonable approach.
"He is one to let go for our sake and for his," Allardyce told the Lancashire Telegraph.
"He has played far too little football at this club over the last two years to be wanting to stay and for us to be wanting to keep him.
"I think wherever a football club would like to take him on, we wouldn't be standing in his way.
"We would not want to loan him again. We want him to build a future for himself."
Problem
Allardyce can understand the financial benefits to Khizanishvili of staying at Blackburn but feels he should be looking to play regularly elsewhere.
"He has still got a few good years of playing football in him," said the Rovers boss.
"Of course one of the problems is he can't match the salary at other clubs that he gets at Blackburn Rovers now.
"That is one of the major reasons he hasn't moved on in the past two years.

Yes. He made a huge difference along with Griffin at right back.
You could argue a fit Ivar, Pearce and Mills is good enough, Gunnarsson as 4th choice cover maybe, but really we need 4 decent centre backs. Missmahwilly would be a starter along with Mills IMO.

Griffin played regularly and sorted out a problem position for us. His role was crucial and McD also said several times that Griff was a big influence off the pitch too.
Whilst Zurab was impressive while he played he was in and out of the side and i would say he gave us a much needed extra option but when he didn;t play we didn;t really miss him. Pearce stepped in more than adequately for him.
I do think he would be a good signing, he's clearly a good player, lots of experience and definitely would add to the squad. But I don;t think he was as influential as Griffin last season - which isn't to say he wouldn;t be next season of course !!

Under the impression Ivar would still be 1st choice.
Zurab gives lots of options though, can cover both centre half and right back, so could also free up Griff to cover for left back if needed.
Not sure he improves the starting 11, but improves the squad big time in a lot of areas. Plus with Ivar's injury record of late, he is a risk.

I'd like to see whether he can put in a full season. His track record to date is patchy, Blackburn are by far the best team he's played for and he's not exactly held down a regular place there. Is he plagued by endless niggly injuries ? Is he inconsistent ? Would a drop back down to the level he played at a few years ago be what he needs ?
I liked what I saw from him in the time he was with us but there is also a slight doubt about him - is he the sort of player that plays for a contract then eases off until the next deal is on the horizon ?

I wasn't overly impressed, he's good on the ball but lacks pace. I certainly would not want to break the bank to get him or pay inflated wages.

He can do more than that.
He can do what many managers have done before and told a player he's not part of the plans, won't be included in the first team squad, won;t train with the first team etc etc. The player can chose to stay and pick up his wages if he wants, but most will jump at the first decent offer.
Blackburn could also pay off his contract and make him a free agent.
