How are you going to work that Brendy? The goal is stationary, the offside line is not. Are you going to have some sort of magic eye type device whipping up and down the touchline as the last line of defence moves? I foresee several linesmen being taken out in nasty accidents on the first day of use!

no, if all the players boots are chipped there is no need for cameras.
the coordinates for each player are just fed into a grid, and the chip in the ball registers when it is passed

That'll work, well other than the fact that its not the player's boot that offside is based on. Its any part of a player that he can score with. So players in Tron suits is the way forward...

So if defender is leaning away from the goal, and attacker is leaning towards the goal, he is offside because his head is beyond the feet of the defender?

Sounds nonsense to me.

'Nonsense' or not, that's the law. I can't really think how an attacker could exploit the offside rule if it were just feet that counted, but presumably there is a reason for it to be like this.

Headed goals in the 6 yard box is the only situation i can think of.

Blatter was quite clever by including Mexico in his apology to England by lumping both into the general area of refereeing mistakes even though one was worse than the other. i.e one mistake that lead to goal compared to with mistake that was a goal.

Hwo would the chip know when the ball is passed and is not just being "dribbled"? How would it know which team has kicked the ball?

Mebe we need something along the lines of ice-hockey goals. Only really referring to that 96' ice hockey game on the megadrive - but they had like spinny police lights above the goal when the puk went in - didn't they?

pppfff
im the ideas man, ill hand it all over to a "dooer" in a bit

1.the difference between pass and dribble is who touches it next, so measure that- if it was a pass a new player will touch it.if its a dribble the same player will touch it again, or summink
2.because the chip in both boot and ball register the kick.

tbf, its still very much in the brainstorming phase of developement, this could all change........

Might as well just play it on a computer if you are going to that level of complexity.

I'd give up on the ideas if I was you......

whatever!

thats not complex!its a simple question of a 'puter drawing a line between the teams last two dots on the grid, and beeping if a pass is played to an opposition player beyond the line.

's easy.......

this time next year ill be a millionaire, and "foot chip" technology will be use din every major league in world football
or summink

There are too many variables in the offside rule for it ever to be computerised.

Also do you understand the offside rule? If you draw a line between the last two "dots" on the grid surely you won't end up with a straight line as one will be the goalkeeper? Did you mean a line across the pitch where the second to last player is? (ie the last defender)....

It does help if you understand something before trying to have an idea on how to solve it...........

oooo look at you.

cheers for sucking whatever enjoyment i was experiencing during my flight of fancy from this thread.
now youve oxf*rd ruined it.

anyway you knew what i meant!
and there are not too many variables. there are two teams, two last men, and a ball and boots registering when theyve kick/been kicked.

its only just beyond the processing power of an acorn electron

How will a computer know what phase of play it is and whether someone is interfering with play or not?

pfff

ok, ok. get two acorn electrons.

or, the ref can over rule in th eevent of a phase of play/interfering with play incident

I disagree, brendy. Involving the human ref will just slow things down. So the computers might make mistakes from time to time...but that's all part of the game.

I've just realised as well, if the chip is in the boot what happens if the player uses another part of the body, head or chest for example to pass the ball?
