Fine, that's your prerogative - but except for the start of last season under BR, when have we ever publicly stated our transfer plans? Wouldn't that just push prices up?

If you are going to start believing everything that comes out of Football Club press offices, you're probably gullible enough to help me release some money that I've inherited in Nigeria. Please PM me your bank account details......

Dirk what are you going on about?

The man has come out and said he is happy with his squad and not looking to sign anymore players. Happy with his squad. Lets leave it at that. Suffice to say, if big bid comes in for Mills or Kebe for example then yes he will have to look. But as it stands what we have is what we have got. Dont become one of these posters Dirk trying to cover all bases, you are better than that.

I'm not trying to cover bases at all - I'm just pointing out that things released by football clubs' publicity machines aren't worth taking any notice of.

If we were looking to buy a specific player or one to fill a particular hole, why on earth would we advertise it to the world? It would alert sellers and send prices up - remember Tommy Smith?

It might be true, but it;s just as likely to not be - all I am saying is that a statement like that is worthless and so it's not worth taking any notice of it. .

Squad numbers have been released into the wild:

Who the f*ck is Michael Hector? Note - with pant-wetting excitement - that there is no number 15.

I suspect a few numbers may be freed up soon - 12 Mooney, 4 Cisse, 21 Hamer, 27 Davies.....
Armstrong goes from 3 to 33.....not looking good

brendywendy at least theyve got rid of the gay neck designs.

i was hoping for the uraguay kit design, but thisll do

Indeed, i can actually buy the home shirt knowing it won't have that stupid neck design.

They should let the fans design a kit :P

Don't understand the last point. How is a long term injured player being given a squad number not 'good' ?

Think he means it doesn't look good for Armstrong's long term future in the game. Looks to me like a case of letting him see out his contract, retire and claim his compensation.

Armstrong like any footballer is a very lucky boy, but you can't help but feel sorry for the lad. As a fan, he's want you want in one of your players..

I am in agreement with Dirk on this. A newspaper has inches to fill so any sort of quote or soundbite will be eagerly swallowed. The majority of supporters are also info hungry and will read whatever they choose to whatever is announced. ST sales appear to be impressive this close season so there is no underlying need to try and eke out a few hundred more which may happen if there was wind of a major new signing.

That said, I would be very surprised if we started the season without at least 1 new Centre Back on the books.

McDermott has been saying he's happy with his squad since the season finished. We've still made two signings. Why on earth would him saying the same as he's been saying for ages mean we're suddenly no longer going to make any more signings?

Talk about jumping to conclusions.

And what are those crazy white bits through the blue hoops on the home shirt? I know very little about photoshopping, but if I was ever going to point something out as an example of a bad 'shop it would be that.

...and the fact that he's got 33 has nothing to do with it either...many players are superstitious about numbers...given that Willo has been bought as first choice, no player would want number 13, 23 was already Rasiak's so 33 was the first available shirt...given Stretch's favoured position/number is LB and 3...maybe that's the real reason for the squad number...

How many countries have used #13 in this year's World Cup?

McDerm: So Stretch we are gonna give you a squad number, but as you are injury prone it won't be number 3...What are your feelings about number 13?
Stretch: Umm, gaffer isn't 13 an unlucky number and not wanting to tempt fate, I'd actually rather have something else...but I do quite like the number 3...so anything with that in it would be appreciated...
McDerm: Right, no worries...how about 33?
Stretch: Boss, I love ya...
