You have to say that's a damn lot of players - yes a lot of them are kids who won't be involved, but I'd be surprised to see them all still here at the end of August.

I would expect that everyone from 27/8 down, with the exception of Howard and Armstrong are intended to go out on loan.

Agreed. Although Antonio and Bignall might be given a chance if they have decent pre-seasons.

In addition, possible that we're trying to move both Cisse and Mooney on somewhere else too.

First Team
Goalkeepers: Federici & Andersen
Full Backs: Griffin, Williams, & Cummings
Centrebacks: Mills, Pearce & Ingimarsson
Defensive Midfield: Tabb, Gunnarsson, Karacan & Howard*
Attacking Midfield: Sigurdsson & Davies
Wingers: Kebe, McAnuff, Henry & Antonio
Forwards: Long, Hunt, Church, Rasiak

*Howard can also play the more attacking role fairly well.

Which isn't bad IMO, a little lacking in terms of strength in depth admittedly.

I'd then expect to see most of Hamer, McCarthy, Kelly (or Cummings), Taylor, Bignall, Bell-Baggie & Robson-Kanu to go out and get some / more first team experience on loan.

Cisse & Mooney to leave the squad. The rest to fill up the reserves or go out on loan.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but with the kids on the lower numbers, do they get paid more than those without a number or are there no "kids" with numbers?

I believe it means they've been given a professional contract which I'd have thought meant more dosh. But I could be wrong.

/someone who actually knows the situation steps in

The 'kids' with squad numbers are the ones who have been given professional contracts. This will ofcourse then increase their wage. The younger academy products(scholars) are on the basic £75(ish) a week, until either released, or offered a pro deal.

There's no obligation to give the younger ones squad numbers, and many clubs don't. I suspect we just do it to mate them feel more involved.

Isn't there a new league rule which says something about a squad of 25? We appear to have a squad of 39....

That's the Premier League, I believe - and U21s don't (have to) count.

You can only have 25 players over 21, 10 of which have to be homegrown. You can have as many under 21s in the squad as you like. Not sure if it applies yet, I think so though.

Will be interesting to see who is No.2 keeper.

Hamer had a superb 2008/09 but just hasnt had a chance since. Hes an excellent prospect but wont get any better sitting on the bench. Hear some good reports about Andersen, but everything ive seen of him personally is, well, Dump. With McCarthy as well surely 1 of them will move on.
