Big Foot I thought it was against the licensing laws to be allowed to drink alcohol in view of the pitch?

From 10 minutes before to 10 minutes after the game IIRC.

These may just be West Country laws, but I doubt it.

Nope, that's the one - Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol Etc) Act 1985.

That's why there are "no alcohol beyond this point" signs and yellow paint on the floor.

I was moved on by the Old Bill at Plymouth for doing exactly this. Was told that I couldn't drink "in view of the pitch" which, apparently, includes being stood by the concourse entrances, even if you are behind the "no alcohol beyond this point" sign.

I might be up for using this, my money-wasting credentials cannot be doubted given that this will be my 14th consecutive season of being a RFC STH. Perhaps they could have made it a themed bar, for instance a Beach Boys themed venue called Bar Barbarbarbarbarbarbara-Ann.

Remember that pointless celeb England v Germany friendly when Boris Johnson rugby tackled some German player?

Well I was sat in the Upper West (for once) in the normal seats, in the last seat before the red hospitality seats. A steward came up and quite rudely told me to get back down in to the concourse with the beer I had brought in. Fair enough if it's the law.

The woman in the red seats next to me was drinking champagne. He didn't ask her to leave despite my pointing out the inequality of his demand. Apparently the law is dependent on the colour of your seat, or how important you are. Not sure which, the steward wasn't interested in discussing it.

That was not a "designated" match under the terms of the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol Etc) Act 1985 and so the steward was wrong to have asked you to move - or at least wrong to quote the law at you. In this case his only fallback could be ground regulations, rather than statute law.

Far be it for me to get opinionated...BUT

Rules are Rules. Don't take beer (or any alcoholic beverage) to the seats. Simple. If you get caught by a Steward, hold your hands up, say "fair play boss", and take it back to the Concourse and drink it there.

Don't even get me started on those oiks who SMOKE in the seats. Scum-of-the-Earth, want taking outside and given a good slapping.

Rules are rules, quite right. But at Parky's testimonial there had been no issue about taking beer in to the seats so I'd assumed it was ok.

Regardless of that, my point was really about there being one rule for me and another for someone else.

When at Stamford Bridge, they have blinds in between the double glaziong in the boxes, with security stopping you from watchign the game 'live' with alcohol.

I have wondered why the boxes at the mad stad don't have blinds, but perhaps they have a way around it by only allowing alcohol in the bar, and you can't take it to your box..?

Tried this last night for the first time & it's v. pleasant. Bar service is slower than in the concourse though and the prices verge on the extortionate - £4 a pint of guiness and £2.50 for a cup of coffee.

Bar 1871? You'd be served a lot quicker in the Trophy/Directors Lounge 8)

When you next get a coffee/tea - the £2.50 is for free refills.

For me personally, the bars are just not run by people that truly know what they're doing [they stock some absurd choice of alcohols] and fail to really make the experience enjoyable so that you want to keep going back to the bar....but I guess its a football stadium and not a cocktail bar.

You can take it into the box but I believe that the waiter is there to remind them they can't drink during the game.

Is Bar 1871 the corner box between the West and North stands? So the seats for the box is the bigger section in the corner?

Correct. There are diagrams/maps of the stadium on the official website [I think].
