cmonurz Terrific signing for Liverpool, arguably only Torres topped that one during Benitez's reign, and Hodgson has only had the job for weeks. Time will tell, but for there's no way Cole is a genuine free transfer player, struggled for form a bit after his injury, but easily one of the better midfielders in the Premier League.

Roy Hodgson says Joe Cole has signed for Liverpool for football not financial reasons.
Righto. The extra £260,000 a year in salary he'll be getting over the offer he had from Arsenal will be donated to charity then. Cole turns down two relatively stable clubs in the Champions League for one deep in the financial brown and smelly, which is in the Europa League courtesy only of Pompey being refused a UEFA licence, has two out of its three best players (Torres and Mascherano) desperate to leave, with the third (Gerrard) probably about to be monstered by the tabloids and which last won the League when Margaret Thatcher was still Prime Minister. Tell me another. Go on, do.
I'm only glad that somebody else was demented enough to make him an even more insane offer than we were. Over TWENTY MILLION SOVS including on-costs (employer's NICs etc) over four seasons for a sick-note bit-player who has averaged less than 27 League games a season in seven terms at Stamford Bridge and who can't even get into an England team that osilates between mediocre and total pooh?
Do me a favour.
I love Roy Hodgson to bits but I think he's made a very serious error with Cole. I don't blame the player incidentally. Nobody made Liverpool offer him the contract they have. I'm sure Liverpool supporters will be comforted by the uses to which their ticket price increases are being put. After all, it's only fair that they bear the burden of Hicks and Gillett's debts and the really quite modest Cole salary and signing bonus.
All joking aside, it must be so disheartening watching two complete chancers who don't give a monkey's about football or Liverpool destroying one of the world's great football clubs.
