What's the logic in a tiny number of people getting a subsidy from the club ?

Sun Tzu I think the services are all subsidised, and yes, you could argue that the club just shouldn;t do it for anyone. the local buses serve more people though (at least potentially) and if there is a limited budget for buses is it not better to still run some than none ?

So which position is it you hold? Should a tiny number of people get a subsidy or not. In the first case you suggets not, in the latter you say they should.

Sun tzu if there is a demand for a bus service from Bracknell and it can be provided at a sensible price I'm sure some willing entrepeneur will step in.

I am talking with various bus companies about running a service from Bracknell. I have found out this afternoon the club are too. Hope someone from the club talks to me or we could end up running 2! Time is not on my side at the moment though.

I asked a question as to where you draw the line ! We are talking two tiny numbers and my question was whether the smaller tiny number being sacrificed for the good of the larger number is the right choice. Whereas you took the view that if you lost your bus everyone else should lose their's too, which seems a bit selfish.

It might be worth YOU talking to the club rather than waiting for them to talk to you, if you know they are is discussions it seems perverse to sit back and wait for them as they may have no idea about your initiative. And it may actually be GOOD if there were two services as if the routes are carefully selected you might actually both be able to attract enough to make it viable.

And in passing it's a refreshing change to see someone not only raising a topic in HNA but also going out and trying to do something themselves. Respect to you for that....

I think you will find that I only said they should scrap all the buses after you said the club should not subsidise a tiny number of people. If you feel the club should not subsidise a tiny number of people then you must feel they should scrap all the buses no? Or have you thought better about that not and we can subsidise them if they don't lose too much money?

TBH I don't care about the empty buses, all I care about is the full Bracknell bus that has been scrapped.

I would talk to the club if I knew who in the club to talk to. Customer Services have told me if I run a bus to get in touch and they will help me find somewhere to park it. STAR have told me someone called Ray at the club is working this and have passed my details on to him.

Don't have a go at ME for not trying to talk to the club myself. I have asked for a meeting with the club to discuss the situation. I am awaiting a response.

I have contacted a bus hire company in Bracknell that wants to talk with the club to understand passenger numbers.

I think you can find all the answers already posted.

I certainly think it's questionable that subsidising buses for a small number of people is a good use of money when money is apparantly so short. It's not a core part of what a football club should be doing.

If there is a limited budget for the buses then it makes sense to use it for the greatest number of people to benefit.

If a third party can run buses at break even or better then that is ideal. Fans can get to the game, the club can spend money where it should. If you are able to full a bus and not lose money on it over a season then you'll have done 70 fans and the club a big favour and I'd hope you could factor in your own fare in the running costs as a deserved reward.

If 20 other people all thought like you and found routes / buses / fares that could be well supported we'd be way better off than we are now. I've always though that Henley should support a bus to games and probably lots of other places. Much better for local people to use their initiative and make them work - it's all part of the Big Society !!

Surely the way to do it is for the local boozers to run the services, didn't the R&T used to do this.

There's about 4 pubs that do buses to the games I believe.

The club moved it's home from central Reading to an out of town hell-hole with much reduced transport links. It should therefore take the hit on providing a subsidised bus service.

In Bracknell and Farnborough? I hope this isn't reflected in the cost of my West Reading single ticket! Outrageous

So why doesn't STAR contact a few of the pubs where members drink and see if there is any interest in running a joint bus? I would like to think that there might be some take up with this.

This is the Madejski Stadium! Fans drinking in pubs before the game will not be tolerated in case they get uncontrollably drunk and kill the whole crowd!!

TBF, that would make a pleasant change from the usual half time entertainment.

I really don't think STAR memebers should expect a handful of volunteers to do everything for them.

maybe we have outgrown STAR and what we need is lots of local supporters clubs all affiliated with STAR. Being a member of your local supporters group makes you a member of STAR.

This makes far more sense. There seems to be a good link between the exiled supporters clubs and STAR and RFC. sadly, the people living within a 20 mile radius are effectively short changed. The only relatively local branch that springs to mind was the North Hants one. Whatever happened to it?

It's not a bad idea, but I still think you'd end up with a handful of volunteers doing everything. What if no one wanted to run a local group in your area?
