- What complete shite. Burnley and Hull will not make the Playoffs..
- Agree with the bottom three.
- Leeds will comfortably finish in the top half.

I reckon given what they say, they'll give us odds reflected on this, so could make a bit of cash saying we'll go up.

On Paddypower, 'Boro are 2/1 to go up.. We're 7/2 which isn't too bad.. Deffo worth a punt for £50 this season, need better odds though

Why is it when people give their verdicts they are so sure. Even when year after year you get proved wrong. For what it is worth, here is my predicted table. Some of this I will get right, some of it I will get very wrong, like the rest of you!

Middlesbrough
Reading
Burnley
QPR
Notts Forest
Bristol City
Sheffield United
Ipswich
Millwall
Cardiff
Doncaster
Leicester
Hull City
Portsmouth
Norwich
Coventry
Derby
Swansea
Leeds
Preston
Crystal Palace
Barnsley
Watford
Scunthorpe

7th sounds a good call to me. Borough have been busy in the transfer market, but for me there's a question mark over Strachan's ability and commitment as a manager. He did well for a while with Southampton and was reasonably successful at Celtic, which is a hard place to fail at. But he was terrible at Coventry. I'm not so sure about Forest, either, because they began to struggle away from home last season. I'd also expect Hull and Cardiff to do less well than predicted, owing to financial constraints. Burnley, though, should be competitive.

I'd expect QPR to be in with a good chance of promotion, and better than predicted finishes for Bristol City and Ipswich. My strugglers would be Watford, Crystal Palace, and, as the season goes on, Portsmouth. Barnsley and Scunthorpe may continue to defy their appointed roles as cannon fodder.

I did the BBC predictor and had us finish 3rd on 81 points behind Boro and Sheffield Utd with Burnley, Forest and Ipswich also in the play offs. However, I don't believe we will finish that high.

I predict that we'll end up 12th....

...just like I did, with a very detailed post highlighting our squad's weaknesses, back in... July 2005.

Everyone seems to be assuming Barnsley and Scunthorpe will be bottom three; but both have good managers.

17th

The Sun has predicted Reading to finish 17th this season.

After the first game they're spot on.

I think you'll find that 17th is the prediction from Chris Kamara.

A year ago, he predicted Peterboro to WIN the Championship !!! So I think it is safe to
assume that his predictions are garbage.

Do you mean he didn't make the prediction, or he didn't tip Peterborough?

Either way, Kamara isn't generally the most trustworthy of Sky's pundits in my experience. I reckon he's there for comic relief in the first place.

Whoever predicted that we'll finish 17th is full of rubbish anyway. Look at how we did after Brian came in last season! Imagine having him for a whole term...

opening jitters are nothing to worry about, and hopefully thats all Saturday was.

Oh, and the fact that our central defense are as slow as pensioners in a supermarket. And that Shane Long has Berbatov Syndrome.

I think he predicted Peterboro would finish in the playoffs.

He always puts us near the bottom - probably because he used to play for Swindon

Re: The new season

I really think we can do it this year, based on our performances after Brian took over last term, rather than our performance in the very first game of the season.

Having said that, we could do with another striker. Ideally Noel will come back soon and find his stride quickly, but I'm not holding my breath for that one any more. Churchy and Long are just too hit and miss to spearhead a promotion challenge on their own, and we can't rely solely on our midfield.

Central defense is the other area we need to look at. Millsie needs to sharpen up, particularly if he's got eyes on being captain. Alex Pearce just isn't good enough. Ivar's return will be great, but he's not getting any younger, or faster for that matter, we need a bit of pace back there...

Still, I have a lot of faith in McD, he knows the players, and on last seasons evidence knows how to get the best out of them. We need to give him a bit longer before we start predicting a mid table finish (those who are)

Handsome Man Middlesbrough seem to have made some shocking signings. Scottish Premier League players rarely make the step up to the championship and I can't see Boyd being any different. They will under-achieve.

Leeds have momentum with them, but the fans will still put them under intolerable pressure: a good start, but they'll blow up and miss the play-offs. Norwich also have some momentum and could cause a surprise.

Coventry and Bristol City have good managers and should do OK.

Portsmouth and Hull won't be as bad as people expect, and I hoped. They will both challenge and one of them will be the champions.

Reading will suffer a bit from Gylfi's second-season syndrome, and people working out how to defend against MacAnuff and Kebe, but one more of the youngsters will really kick on. How will we keep all the goalies happy?

Should have stopped predicting after two paragraphs (I really never understood the number of people backing Middlesbrough), because I was doing well.
