So I reckon, something like

Hamer
Griffin
Gunnarsson
Pearce
Williams
Kebe
McAnuff
Howard
Tabb
Rasiak
Antonio

I very much doubt we will risk Kebe or McAnuff (even assuming he recovers). Think we need to protect Griffin as well as the league is more important. Davies might get a start if he is not signing elsewhere yet.

I think we could end up with

Hamer
Cummings
Pearce
Gunnar
Williams
Antonio
Tabb
Howard
Bell-Baggie (on wing)
Bignall
Rasiak

Bench - Locke, Davies, Griffin, J.Mills, Walcott, Joyce and Rowe

I am not sure that is strong enough to beat a reasonable side away from home so not really expecting Reading to win. Obviously hope they prove me wrong.

So you don't expect a below strength Reading to beat a team two divisions below us? This isn't the andrew1957 we know and, erm, know. Welcome to the real world andrew. Remember when you started crowing about us avoiding relegation fom the Prem about 3 weeks before we actually went down 8) ?

I think it is more the fact that we have at least 8 players on international duty at the same time as playing in the cup. Ridiculous planning by the football authorities and I suspect there will be quite a few larger teams going out as a result - although we are probably one of the worst affected by international call ups. I think if we win we will have done very well as everything is against us for this tie with so many players away or injured - so to me Torquay are favourites for this one.

I absolutely agree about the disgraceful timing of this fixture alongside a needless international friendly, particularly so soon after a World Cup which bored us all to tears. That said, we are 2 divisions above Torquay with infinitely more resources and in no way should they be favourites to beat Reading, that is pre-match excuse-making spin at its best!

After that performance on Saturday I'd put out the same back 5 and tell them to get a clean sheet. Div 2 is probably Pearce's standard so he might be ok.

Last time we lost our first home game of the season we went down to the coast and won 2-0.

Let's hope history repeats itself.

With a full squad of 14 it's a good job Portsmouth don't have many international players, they'd end up having to field supporters!

RFC tremble at taking on top of table TUFC......

After 1 game we are trotting out injuries s a defence lest we are beaten by a team with hardly any resources????
For shame!

Given how many players are unavailable i think McDermott will pick his strongest possible side, especially after defeat on Sat, although i reckon Antonio will get a start as i'm not sure both McAnuff and Kebe will play. This is what i reckon the team will be.

Hamer
Griffin
Pearce
Gunnar
Williams
Antonio
Howard
Tabb
McAnuff (if fit otherwise Kebe)
Rasiak
Bignall

Subs
Locke
Kebe (assuming he doesn't start, if he does his place on the bench will be taken by an Academy player)
Cummings
Davies
Bell-Baggie
Walcott
J Mills

I think KC has it about right there.

I wonder if Davies might actually get a start ahead of one of Tabb/Howard though. With Mills and Karacan struggling after Saturday McDermott might not want to risk burning out players ahead of a big game on Saturday, especially considering Pompey will have had two days extra rest and have a good set of central midfielders still (Hughes, Mullings and Brown are more than good enough for this level).

I'd be surprised to see Mills start too as we just can't afford for him to be out so they'll do whatever needs to be done to get him right for Saturday.
