Correct - it's all about subtle forms of control in one way or another, and sadly that's the ethos of modern-day football.

"You won't celebrate spontaneously, you'll celebrate the way we tell you ... You won't spontaneously sing before matches - we'll pump high volume music and video adverts at you ... Never forget that we're in charge of how you enjoy yourself, don't you think of being spontaneous..."

It's not a conscious thing, just really something that's evolved at all clubs over the last 18 years or so, so much that many people don't see how insidious it is or know any other way ....

Which is one of the reasons I refuse to get excited about what particular tune is selected for music after goals.

Well I still think it should be a majority vote by fans as to whether there is any goal music in the first place, and if so, which tune. As I said the fans are the ones who will be responding or not to the music if played.

I think STAR should do a poll on their website and advertise it on here, in the programme, in the EP etc so that once and for all we get a majority verdict on firstly whether we should have goal music and secondly, if so, which tune. It's surely not that hard to organise is it? :| This might then go some way to stop these annual bloody arguments on here at least!

How do you make sure that any internet poll is only voted on by people whom the result affects?

As a perfect example, why do you think there is a Bell End at Man City's stadium - an internet poll was responsible for that.

I'd suggest whoever constructed the poll and included that as an option was at fault there.

People won't bother voting on something that doesn't effect them unless there's a comedy option.

RL, do you want a majority of fans who vote or a majority of fans?

If only that were the case. If a poll decided one way or the other there would still be an annual debate about revisiting the question by those who disagreed with the outcome. Roughly once every 5 years we elect a government and that doesn't stop us arguing about whether we got the right one!

why not have a list of music, then everyone lists them in order, start with ten, tehn use that electoral system to reduce options, till one wins.

I suspect the arguments would be somewhat more vociferous had we not been given the chance to elect said government though!

There's always a comedy option for supporters of other teams...

Right, personally, I've always favoured "The Boys are Back in Town" as a good song for us (esp as we're a town and not a city....yet)

So, my nomination is for that. Other nominations?

Then we just need to host the list somewhere accessible for all. Mind you, even if we had an overwhelming vote for one particular song, how do we convey this to the Club in any case. And would they do anything about it?

Dirk Gently Which is one of the reasons I refuse to get excited about what particular tune is selected for music after goals.

I agree, the real crux of the matter is that there shouldn't be any music in the first place

Which is why that should be one of the options imo!

No you stop when you get the result you want and then stop anyone else starting the debate again

I'd be more than happy with no music but if we must have some (and tbf it gets more folk celebrating for longer when it's the right tune) it should be Terry and June. Funny, unique and some RFC/Elm Park history.

House of Pain is dreadful.

Reading FC Gylfi Sigurdsson's fantastic goal also saw the debut of our new goal music, an edited version of House Of Pain's classic Jump Around.

McDermott and his team were fully involved in selecting all of the music for the season

Surely that's the end of it then - lolz

I'd go with the ten nominations and a vote here because I'm curious to see what the outcome is and whether it will happen. Far easier to do it here than on the STAR website (although subject to the usual bias that this is an HNA? poll and will get block votes from those with multiple usernames and logins and no votes available to those who haven't joined the site or had their registrations accepted yet).

So for choice of music so far we have:

Tom Hark (original music)
Chasing the Sun (darts music)
Jump around (the new one)
Terry & June
The boys are back in town

As RL posted, any others?

We all know the cub refuse to not play any music at all.

That doesn't mean we have to accept it though.
