Academy goes from strength to strength

There can't really be any doubt that the youth scheme/academy went through some dark days between the days that Barkus, Honey, Holzman and Bass had a fleeting chance of making it up until a few years ago when Cox, Tyson and Ashdown lead the way for the current crop.

The academy just wasn't up to scratch for some reason and didn't turn out players with enough quality or mental strength to make it.

We saw the likes of Haddow, Hadland, Stanley, Allaway, Theo and Freeman look quite good but ultimately fail.

The progress to where we are now, with a very good production line of league footballers (whether with us or elsewhere), is a fantastic achievement and something we really should be proud of.

I know what readingbedding is up to, but there is no debate about how good our academy is.

Howell, Castle, Boucard, Cambell, Boucard, Rifat. What more can you say?

Simon Cox played one game in September 2005, I think Ian is right in questioning whether he's a good example of a youth player who made any kind of contribution between the dates mentioned. HRK kas appeared in 18 games....

Looks like ex-academy player Ryan Crockford might be getting a chance with Oxford

Its raised a few eyebrows up that way with his history, but he could be another league player to come out of the club

We are now up to 10 players added from the Academy in 2010. Of our named squad of 38 now 20 have come through the Academy.

This is good but does mean we now have a very young and inexperienced group - which is why we need another experienced CB ASAP.

J.Mills and Hector I believe but I would have thought it would be a stretch putting either of these in a Championship game with absolutely no loan league experience behind them.

Hayes is in fact at Inverness Caly, and he had a great season there last year, injured during pre-season, hopefully he will be fit on Saturday, to take his place in the side, when I go to watch them play the mighty Celtic.

Campbell never kept himself fit enough to earn a chance, and was too lightweight anyway. You need to be better than he was to make it at his size.

Boucord had all the skills but not enough of the right attitude and application. He got more than enough chances at Peterborough when he went there but still couldn't make the most of his talent at that lower level.

Neither were really true products of our academy/youth scheme though were they? (not sure when Campbell joined come to think of it)
