Coppell is not going to say in a statement that he has retired from football management and then go and take the job at VIlla is he?

seems there could be some "personal reasons" as a contributing factor.

All we need now is for Big Watch to get sacked and the curse will be complete.

David LOLJames. Will he 'do a Sol Campbell' and scarper? Maybe an assistant manager's job there for him if he wants it.

Sir Steve sounds depressed. I'm gutted for him. Hope he doesn't leave football altogether. Would love him back here doing something.

Snowball Rumoured to be going to villa?

Rumoured by whom?

My guess is he longer has the heart for it - as I said elsewhere, he should stick to punditry if he can't face a managerial challenge like that any more.

 FFS... just tad premature to be slating the guy like this, before all the facts are know??

If he is off to Villa then it would be a no-brainer from his perspective, and he'd be accepting a bigger challenge, not shirking from one. Need to wait and see over the next few days before jumping to rash conclusions.

cmonurz

Wow. Genuinely shocked by this. Yes, the Man City job gave him a reputation, but he was so solid, calm, composed as a Reading boss, I thought he'd moved on from that and expected him to do as good a job at City. Sounds like his head just isn't in it.

Best of luck to him, as a Reading legend, in whatever he does in the future, football management is worse off without him.

just think hes at the stage of his life where if he feels he isnt getting what he needs from the chairman/or is interfered with, or is getting a lot of stick he just doesnt need or want it.

Why not, he doesn't seem to bothered about offing the England keeper the big sell about Bristol City and then doing one a few weeks after the signing.

LOL @ James, April 2010 - thoughts about lifting the world cup August 2010 - Playing in the championship for Bristol City and letting in 3 home goals to newly promoted Millwall, and then prolly the main reason you sign, quits because he doesn't have the heart.

PS I wasn't slagging him off - just telling it like it is. Greatest Reading man ever as far as I'm concerned.

The main reason he signed was the location. I'm sure working with Coppell was up there though, as it sounds like James wants to move into management in some form or another (he asked for some involvement or the even the managers job at Pompey).

Surprised at Coppell walking away, but not shocked. He didn't really want to be in football anymore did he, not really? Not enough to be able to operate at that level. I think we saw that before and after the car park fiasco.

Maybe, despite the countless pages of diatribe yesterday, this proves how well run RFC are. Coppell is a rarity - a manager with principles. Many would simply stay and wait for the axe so they could get paid off. It isn't working, not going to change, so go.

Top man

Plenty of heart at Reading, gave him a great reputation, best we ever had!

Pleased he's phucked over Bristol City, phucking yokels.

Happy!

My guess would be it's as simple as having had a year off he thought he'd get back into management only to lose twice and remember it's not as much as fun as he thought.

To suggest someone molested him is a bit crazy brendo
