Its best not to indulge Royalee - he is entitled to express his bitter, hyper-jaundiced, chip-on-each-shoulder view, but we all know that the "harder" the statement, the less reasonable it becomes.

I believe that there are two principal reasons behind Coppell's decision to resign.

Lansdown the City owner does pull the strings, but since he lives outside the UK he works through Colin Sexstone, his Chief Executive. I knew Sexstone previously when he had the same role at Gloucestershire CCC. He is most definitely not Coppell's type of person, varies between the pushy and the smarmy, and has a very high opinion of himself. It is hard to see SC working closely with him. There are also a lot of politics within the club, more so given their push to get local planning permission for a new stadium.

Second reason is the culture at Bristol City. It is not the family club which Reading successfully became and which clearly suited Coppell. Despite claims to the contrary there is still a drinking culture there as well as something of a wurzel mentality.

I'm sure the extra 75 minutes drive beyond the Mad Stad from Croydon didn't help matters either.

FiNeRaIn Managers don't base decisions on whether a club has hooligans for supporters or not, how ridiculous. There are hundreds of arrests and man united, liverpool, man city, chelsea, etc games - do any of those managers give a toss?

You also left out the fact that Millwall fans by all reports more than gave as good as they got. Reports of darts and bottles being thrown from the away end into the home section you've left out.

Only a Rangers fan could come out with a statement like that :(

What a god awful piece of fishing, that doesn't even make sense.

Daily Mail:
Steve Coppell's abrupt departure from Bristol City after less than four months as manager was brought about because his working relationship with demanding multi-millionaire stockbroker owner Steve Lansdown had broken down in double quick time.

And Coppell doesn't hang around in those circumstances. The highly-principled Coppell also walked out of Manchester City after 33 days as manager because of interference from chairman Peter Swales.

What do you mean by there is a drinking culture there?

The players? The back room staff?

I'd like to think that at half-time on the 1st day of the season Coppell found himself looking out for Reading's scoreline with more interest than he showed in the 1st half's proceedings at Ashton Gate.

Epiphany or what...?

There was a problem under Danny Wilson. Johnson came down very hard on them and moved the whole group of players on. There certainly is no drinking culture/problem at City.

Bristol City are a bunch of carrot crunching phuckheads mind.

Coppell was always too good for them.

Let them fester.

Bollox. They have simply become cleverer at concealing it.

Anyone paying the slightest attention to Smoking kills.... posts will have an idea of what he does for a living and would be inclined to believe him over an internet random claiming Coppell quit because of a wurzel mentality.

Perhaps SC didn't get on with The Wurzels themselves - or got peeved with them playing at every training session.
