cmonurz Unfortunately Beckham is the only player of his generation to genuinely value playing for England above his club. Scholes doesn't, and bottled it a long time ago.
And no, there isn't a new Scholes coming through.

Zinidine Zidane "My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder. Scholes is undoubtedly the greatest midfielder of his generation."

Some praise indeed, but he's not even won the players player of the year in the Premierleague?Thomas L'Heureux I think Zidane once said that Paul Scholes was the best player he had ever played against. That indeed is some praise.
All of his fellow prefessionals seem to really rate Scholes though. I remember Roy Keane talking him up big-style as well, especially about his 'nasty side'.
EDIT: Found the Zidane quote;Zinidine Zidane "My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder. Scholes is undoubtedly the greatest midfielder of his generation."
