retro royal Main problem for me is the only player McD has brought in is Williams and has replaced him with a month of the season, does not look good for his scouting skills.

No he hasn't.

OK Griffin aswell, but was that all ready in the offing before McD got the job, in any case he signs Williams and within a month is replacing him, he either doesn't rate him any more/needs extra cover or Williams injury is worse than first feared.

And Khizanishvili, and many of the players during Coppell's tenure.

I'm a bit bemused as to what we are going to do for goalkeeping cover now that Hamer has been loaned to Brentford, has one of the other keepers been recalled?

McCarthy has come back from Brentford
Andersen has extended his loan at Bristol or wherever.

Still can't quite believe there are some Reading fans looking down their noses at a guy who has CL and international experience TBH.

Agree.
Williams should be able to learn huge amounts from Harte and so up his value far beyond whatever we paid for / are paying Harte.

Still can't quite believe so many of our fans think Ian Harte is a good signing. Why was he playing for Carlisle? He had pedigree 5-10 years ago but not now Duberry mkII.

Whilst still pretty gutted to see Sig go, i'm very happy to see Ian Harte come. Think he will prove to be a quality signing just like Griffin.

There was almost an identical thread to this last season when we signed Griffin and i'm sure most people will again end up eating their words.

Not likely. Griffin had consistently played in the Premier League for years. Harte's standard slipped from that level a long time ago. What happened to the policy of young hungry players?

Sorry, just remembered we sell our best young players so other clubs can get the benefit from the time and effort our coaches put in to developing them.

a) Well Championship < Premiership/Bundesliga in terms of quality, kudos and, most significantly, cash.
So as soon as a Championship club produces a top notch academy player, the likes of the Premiership/Bundesliga will offer daft money to snap them up.
If we were in the Premiership Sig would likely have stayed.
We are not, so he left.

b) If someone had offered £10m for Sig would you have taken that ?
There must be a price at which you would say 'take the money'.
The club's price was £6.5m

I wouldn't accept any money for him especially when the team is built around him. I'd look at every possible way to get the 4 million, selling the Stadium naming rights, getting rid of the outlay for unnecessary managerial positions like DoF or even god help me raising ST Prices anything that would raise the required money.

Time effort and money has been wasted on coaching not only Gylfi but the likes of Henry, Henderson,Tyson and Cox to name a few.

We've benefited from years of hard work for just one season and it makes you wonder why they bothered.

£20m ?

Anyway, my main point was championship clubs not being as attractive career wise as higher tier clubs. The mistake was having the release clause in Sigs contract. Without that, I'd say we'd still have him. Was there a release clause in his previous contract (the one before May) ?
