Dear Reading fc fanz URZZZZZZZZ

Could everyone who has been supporting Reading FC since we moved to the spakker dome please fuck off with their no.13 urz shirts and soccer am dvd's and lick the sweat off a dead man's scrote. Leave those with a hint of realism and experience of the harsher times to enjoy the fact that we are a lot better than we used to be, but still a small town club.

Kind Regards.

WTF is it with Reading fans that you all seem to like the fact that we are on a downward slide? The chairman doesn't want to address this & if I hear one more person say that this is a well run club I'll scream. AFC Wimbledon are a well run club. They have build themselves up, spent when they have had to & have achieved regular promotions. We, got to the Premiership only because we were fortunate to have a bloody great manager, not because of any great long term plan that the Chairman has made. Then when we got there we made no investment. When we should have been looking to push for a top ten finish again, noinvestment was made & guess what happened. Evereything at this club is done ion the cheap & I for one have had enough!

Just for the record, this season will be my 30th supporting RFC. I've seen us in a worse state than this but back then we knew we were shit. Nobody ever spoke of having great ambition to be a Premiership club & it only cost me a few quid to get in. Nowadays the whole club is full of bullshit. I'll never stop supporting the players & I will still be going in another 30 years if I'm able to but that doesn't mean that I have to sit down & accept that the club is being run by someone who has no interest in it.

One more thing, a couple of seasons bacl the RTG brigade were plenty. Nowadays I suspect the RTG's are very much in the minority. More & more people are pissed off & with good reason.

have to agree with most of what you say Mr Nev.

When we were in 3rd/4th division we never even contemplated getting into the 1st div - because we knew our limitations with regard to money/players we were able to bring in. And no-one ever suggested to us that it COULD be better. And as you say, these days it costs us a lot more money, we're always being told about our chairman's ambition to make us a Premier league club again, and when we did finally get there, we threw it all away. I wouldn't really want to go back there if we weren't going to try and compete to stay there anyway.

TBMs may be in the majority now, but most of the last decade has been good for any fan of Reading.

What you are demanding just doesn't make sense. You want people to spend millions of their own money subsidising our club? That is just stupid.

It is stupid but it is also the way the industry works. It's part of the game at every level of the pyramid and although I'd love to think that we can be successful by cutting our cloth and being a self sufficient business I'm afraid it isn't the case.

I've boundless respect for what Madejski has done, and is trying to do, btu realistically we're fighting the tide of a whole industry and if we really have ambitions of being competitive (on a long term basis) we have to have external injections of investment to see that happen.

I wish Madejski would show a bit more ambition at times. Our second season in the Prem was a missed opportunity to really bring the club forward and again this year, I think a small investment in the squad could have seen us win this league. I'm also gutted to lose Gylfi. As much as I like Zurab, yesterday's incoming deals were pretty underwhelming.

Still, there is no doubt that the club is far better off under Madejski. I used to watch lower divison games in a decrepit ground in front of 4,000 fans now I'm watching a midtable 2nd tier side playing in front of 15,000 fans - the fact I'm unhappy with that shows huge progress. The 'Madejski has destroyed this club' spazmo's don't have a clue.

Living in the past

by rhroyal » 01 Sep 2010 11:33

We always used to criticize the likes of Nottm Forest and Leeds for living in the past when they visited us, singing about glories 20 odd years ago which they can barely remember. I agree, clubs should not live in the past. They should look progressively forward.

That is why the following pro-Madejski argument infuriates me:

"I remember watching us in Division 3 at Elm Park and travelling to Chesterfield away. Now you should just be thankful for our new stadium and our Championship set up."

Yes, we should be thankful. However, that doesn't mean we should sit on our achievements so far and be happy with our current level of success. I know we've been spoilt in recent years and I don't have a problem with failure on the pitch when we're trying to move forward.

The problem is, for all the world we don't appear to be looking forward. We're happy where we are, thankful for the Mad Stad etc. It seems like travelling to the likes of Anfield and Old Trafford in the Premiership did not create a thirst for more. The club's drive for the next level has gone. At least when Madejski originally arrived the club was looking to better itself and move forward, surely it was then worth hanging around to see how the club would fare with its plans.

Now we're happy with what we've got and there is nothing to look forward to, we have no intentional to better ourselves and to move forward again. I once said that I've probably seen our peak, 8th in the Premiership. It goes further than that right now, I can't see us challenging for promotion out of this league in the near future. This is why people are disillusioned, not because we're not thankful for what Madejski has done in the past.

I think Madejski has offered all he can for the club. Unfortunately, you can't just go out there and find a suitable chairman just like that and until this happens I'm happy to settle for a few years mediocrity. Equally, whether he leaves or not is not our decision to make, so we'll have to settle with what we've got and get behind the team for a while longer.

I just wanted to vent my spleen at those who think that past achievements provide a good excuse for sitting back on our laurels and failing to look forwards.

Everybody needs to forget whether they personally like Mr. Mad, or think he has a huge ego, or believe he isn't being generous enough, and just think about who they would prefer to run the club. Name another club chairman who you think is doing a better job (assuming LAUGHABLY that they'd ever want to buy Reading of course). The world isn't full of rich morons lining up to buy huge liabilities out of the kindness of their hearts.

Plus WHY OH WHY does everyone think ambition is going to make watching Reading a more enjoyable experience? When Reading are the new Arsenal (ha ha ha) I'm going to love the fact that about 1 billion people worldwide also claim they love my club; I'm going to just be overjoyed when I'm spending £1000 for a season ticket, and oh how thrilling to spend my days weeping because we've only won by a two goal margin. I'm not suggesting that you should purposefully stay a small town club, but whilst you are FOR FCUKS SAKE enjoy it.

Exactly. In the meantime I'm not going to be getting involved in all this Madejski-loving. Isn't he wonderful he's taking us back down the divisions so we can show the rest of the football world that a football club can live without investment.

We won't always have Academy products that can bring in £6million.

We don't have a divine right to Premiership or even Championship football, but I think if the Chairman doesn't show more of a willingness to keep us competitive in the division over the next few seasons he ought reasonably to expect some kind of backlash from the people who aren't being suckered by all his 'I had to borrow a tenner for lunch the other day, I put the £5million statue on the credit cards and the money I put into my printing firm to save it from extinction came from the tooth fairy - I wear dentures now.'
