Definitely  @ Reading Fans.

Sig out, Harte and Hendrie in. If it wasn't happening to the club I follow I'd laugh forever. It's almost unbelievable. If someone told you that was going to happen 3 years ago, 2 years ago, 1 year ago or even last month or even 2 days ago you'd think they'd gone mad.

It says everything we need to know about this "well-run club". (Cue JM apologists.)

By the way, what happened to Matty Fryatt or was he too expensive at over £50K?

If we'd spent any money on them then fair enough, but actually I have nothing against these signings (that's if hendrie proves himself to be worthy of a deal).

Jeffers217
The club will not be in the top half of the table mate without goals will it?!

Church got 12 last year, Long got 9. Neither played a whole season
and now we have Noel Hunt, a very good player at this level

The Sig was such an influential player to us, he improved the performances of Kebe and McAnuff.

Not IMO. A fantastic player, yes, some great goals and ten assists in 43 appearances.

But this season to date, no assists (Howard has 3)

And we won more games without Gylfi than we did with him

We have replaced a 20+ a season man with sod all- how can you expect Howard or Karacan to emulate that?

Aren't you forgetting that we will have ANOTHER PLAYER to take that position, OR an extra striker (should be worth 10+ goals)

And the new LB scored 18 goals last year, so penalties and free-kicks are already sorted.

The only player who has the distinct possibility of scoring that amount is the INJURY-PRONE N Hunt who we are placing a hell of a lot of hope on.
If he gets injured in the coming months, then we start to look very stupid.

Let's not forget he is proven at Premiership level. And if he gets serious injuries won't we bring in a loanee?

At least before this sale, we had a player who was able to score goals out of nothing and lifted the rest of the team.

Yet he scored v Scunthorpe and we lost.
He then played at Pompey and we failed to win.
he played v Forest and we failed to win.

He is not a God. Last season he played in THIRTEEN defeats and 13 draws.

His goals don't always lift the side. We have lost five games in which he scored

Without him we've won 50% of our games, with him we've won 38%

Please name me the 2 games The Sig hasn't featured in this season??? I believe they were 2 cup games against League 2 opposition that we REALLY struggled in. Top half?!?! I'd be happy with survival mate- get some realism

Did we beat Scunthorpe, Portsmouth, Forest when he played?

Torquay was always going to be tough. They currently lead their league and have let in just one goal in ten league games (and the one we scored against them in the cup.

We will finish in the top half at worst

SJM comes out on the pitch before our next game...

Do you:

A) applaud and sing 'one john madejski' because he can do no wrong?
B) applaud out of respect for him getting us to the Premiership a couple of years ago?
C) applaud just because he owns the club and you feel you ought to because it's what one is expected to do?
D) carry on trying to work out who's on the bench for the opposition?
E) mumble 'tight tosser' under your breath?
F) boo and jeer?

I honestly had you down as an A or B.

Personally I generally go with D with the odd C or E depending on what side of the bed I woke up on.

Big Foot Noel Hunt scored in the Premiership?

No, apologies

Weird how memory does things. I was thinking of the Doyle-Hunt partnership
and thinking it was our Prem year and not the year we came fourth in the CCC

Snowball I am genuinely pleased we have sold Gylfi.

IMO the club has totally restructured since the debts incurred moving upwards to a good second-tier club
and then those two years in the Prem.

7 Million is brilliant business. I loved to watch Gylfi but it was obvious he would go sooner rather than later.

I held a small hope we might sell him, say, to Arsenal, and get him back as a loanee, but it was a small hope.

We now have a decent squad, up to six players who can play centreback (weeks ago that was a weakness)

Mills-Kish-Pearce-Harte-Ingi-Gunnar

We have Griffin at RB covered by Gunnar, Mcanuff, Cummings and Kish?

LB we have Harte covered by Williams, Cummings (the injured Kelly and maybe Armstrong after he gets back from Lourdes)

We have a keeper good enough to be linked to Liverpool and Fulham, and three very decent keepers just behind.

Suddenly we have what looks to me to be a great blend of youth and experience at the back.

Mills & Pearce should learn loads from the old hands, as should Williams and Cummings

We have an "OK" midfield with Tabb, Howard, Karacan backed up by Gunnar, plus Taylor (a great prospect) and maybe Hendrie

On the wings, Kebe & McAnuff are top-drawer at this level, and Antonio will be pushing them along with HRK

Church and Long managed 21 goals last year, despite neither playing the whole season. Hunt, if he's over his injury
is an excellent striker (11 premiership goals in one season while carrying that long-term injury)

Back-up from Bignall and maybe Mooney in emergency

I find it hard to imagine that squad as anything worse than top half of the table.

And the money is now sorted, the only way is up!!!

You're a retard.

You cannot possibly get away with suggesting promotion, or at least doing well in the Championship (see last sentence) in the same post as mentioning players such as Shaun Cummings, as well as the likes of Bignall.

You also say Noel Hunt scored 11 Premiership goals...maybe 11 SCOTTISH premiership goals during his spell for Dundee. The Championship is harder league that the Scottish premier.

You say that you can't imagine this squad being anything worse than top half, when this squad minus our best player and top goalscorer, minus a much better left back than the ones we have now (Harte included), minus Rasiak who contributed important goals, spent the majority of last season struggling against relegation. Since then we have only worsened the 1st team.

i do none of those things, when he comes out and wrings his hands i feel slightly queasy, and look at the floor.
so somewhere between D and E, with occasional Bs

Cheap signings don't count. When have Reading ever got anywhere by signing players on the cheap?

Way too subtle

papereyes The year we came third in a two horse race. :|

And did so because of an inability to score goals.

I like Snowballs approach here, but I feel he maybe picking sand out of his ears for years to come....

Yes the numbers and balance in the squad look great, but when you look objectively at the quality of those players making up those numbers it doesn't look quite as rosey as Snowball would make out.

Currently (I'm hoping we get a forward in on loan) our front line looks frustratingly weak and lacking in variety and consistent quality. I have hopes for Church as a 'second striker' but he's got nobody to play off or support. Long has proven time and time again that he doesn't have enough about him to lead the line and Hunt is a walking A&E.

The midfield is full of average plodders that have never held down a first team place here. None of them can run a game but all of them do OK.

The wingers are good enough, as long as the two in the side don't get injured or lose form because the likes of Antonio and Kanu aren't up to the job (yet, although personally I don't think they ever will be).

Bascially the squad looks better balanced, but balance is nothing without a bit of quality to raise the bar above average.
Oh please, it's not like we've signed Amedeo Carboni or Stuart Pearce.
We've signed Ian Harte FFS, he's been in the wilderness for 8 seasons or so. Done nothing.
Last time he had a good match, leeds were in the champions leage FFS.
He scored 18 goals last season - not bad for a defender who didn't have a good match :!:

Losing sig is gutting, but 6 mil or 7 mil is a hell of alot for our club, but I am gutted.

As for Harte, I think he will add experience and class to our squad.

Not so keen on the hendrie thing, hoping we can get some prem loans in when they name their 25 man squads and maybe some good players get left out.

Wish Sig all the best, have no problem with the way SJM is runninh things, christ hardly anyone is turning up lately, even when you can get in for £9, and kid for a quid.

We move on
