Just because we don't support him, his massive ego and empty rhetoric does not mean that we don't and/or are disqualified from supporting our football team. You need to learn that there is a very clear distinction between the two.

i dont see wht he or his "massive ego" have to do with anything tbf
and lol at you for taking empty rhetoric to heart

2 world wars, 1 world cup
nev monkey Please back the club properly or sell up & oxf*rd off.

Lee oxf*rd Hendrie!!!!

Agree 100%

Obviously those with their heads stuck up JM's backside and those who still believe Reading to be a little side will have clever things to say..

How big a club do you think we are?

We are an average championship club, with an average fan base and an average income.

Why do people like yourself seem unable to comprehend that an averge club should not be expected to be competing with those paying 50% more?

It has just occurred to me that we sold Gylfi for more than the entire purchase price of the remainder of the squad put together.

Remarkable but Gylfi > more valuable than the entire RFC squad.

The total cost of £5,495,000 is made up of the following transfer fees paid – Mills £1.5M, N. Hunt £600K, McAnuff £500K, Armstrong £500K, Howard £500K, Cummings £300K, Tabb £300K, Griffin £250K, Kebe £250K, Mooney £200K, Ingimarsson £175K (in total), Andersen £100K, Gunnarsson £100K, Antonio £100K, Harte 100K and Long £20K - (16)

Free transfers/Bosmans – Williams and Federici (2)

Academy – Hamer, Pearce, Davies, Church, Robson-Kanu, Karacan, Kelly, McCarthy, Bignall, Taylor, Bell-Baggie, Walcott, Hector, J.Mills, Rowe, Locke, Joyce, Obita, D’Ath (19)

Inward Loans – Khizanishvili (1)

You don't remember the bad times, only the good. There are too many people now, who have only known good times with RFC. We just want them back that's all. I personally just want to see a little bit of progress on the pitch. I would rather see Scott Davies run his heart out, trying to fill the hole left by Gylfi than get anyone else in. I would rather see Obita in there or Baggie over Hendrie. I just need to know that there will be some sort of progress.

But the problem is there are a number of fans who inhabit this forum for whom NOTHING will ever be good enough; a young player comes up from the Academy "He's cr@p and should never play for Reading again"; sign an experienced pro "He's cr@p and old, Reading are a joke!"

There have always been fans like that at Reading; most used to be near me on the West Terrace at Elm Park!! But the new breed think that a couple of seasons in the Prem ENTITLES them to be constantly served multi-million pound players being brought into the club. They also think that the training establishment at Arborfield or the Academy cost nothing, and that Reading FC only employ a few footballers - if not, why do they constantly whine "where has the money gone!!"; FFS - we have just seen the investment on the Academy produce a MASSIVE return, and yet STILL fans moan.

Get a F*****G GRIP!!!!!!!

All I want is for the Chairman to STFU and for the team to be competitive. I do not like SJM. I do not like the way he runs the club. I do not like the way that the supporters are treated or taken for granted. Therefore, no more Reading games for me at the Egodome until he goes.

rhroyal We always used to criticize the likes of Nottm Forest and Leeds for living in the past when they visited us, singing about glories 20 odd years ago which they can barely remember. I agree, clubs should not live in the past. They should look progressively forward.

That is why the following pro-Madejski argument infuriates me:

"I remember watching us in Division 3 at Elm Park and travelling to Chesterfield away. Now you should just be thankful for our new stadium and our Championship set up."

Yes, we should be thankful. However, that doesn't mean we should sit on our achievements so far and be happy with our current level of success. I know we've been spoilt in recent years and I don't have a problem with failure on the pitch when we're trying to move forward.

The problem is, for all the world we don't appear to be looking forward. We're happy where we are, thankful for the Mad Stad etc. It seems like travelling to the likes of Anfield and Old Trafford in the Premiership did not create a thirst for more. The club's drive for the next level has gone. At least when Madejski originally arrived the club was looking to better itself and move forward, surely it was then worth hanging around to see how the club would fare with its plans.

Now we're happy with what we've got and there is nothing to look forward to, we have no intentional to better ourselves and to move forward again. I once said that I've probably seen our peak, 8th in the Premiership. It goes further than that right now, I can't see us challenging for promotion out of this league in the near future. This is why people are disillusioned, not because we're not thankful for what Madejski has done in the past.

I think Madejski has offered all he can for the club. Unfortunately, you can't just go out there and find a suitable chairman just like that and until this happens I'm happy to settle for a few years mediocrity. Equally, whether he leaves or not is not our decision to make, so we'll have to settle with what we've got and get behind the team for a while longer.

I just wanted to vent my spleen at those who think that past achievements provide a good excuse for sitting back on our laurels and failing to look forwards.

And just what is the problem of Chesterfield away RH? My home town you are 'dis'n bruv'

under the tine So do I

^^^ Mental problems ^^^
/\/\/\ delusional problem/\/\
"Sod the icebergs, we're unsinkable, full steam ahead"
Please outline, rationally where our chairman isn't backing the club. Actually don't bother because you and the other mongs will come up with the same old shit about chucking money about BECAUSE THAT SOLVES EVERYTHING
Edited for you.

You will notice the use of the present tense.
He expects the club to be self sufficient, and hasn't put anything in for years.
If asking the public of reading to rally round the flag, and buy season tickets is the extent of being the chairman, then we should have eleven thousand of them. I don't know what a "mong" is, but I presume its a derogatory term. Ah well.

How much money, on average, should a championship chairman subsidise his club each year?

And has he made any claim that Harte's purchase was paid for out of his own pocket?

Has there even been a claim that there there was not any more money to spend?

More or less, yes.

That money's only going 2 places. Just to the left and just to the right of Madejskis dong.

Re: Living in the past
It's not so much about living in the past, it's about recognising that there are certain limitations on the club that haven't really changed. We're still an unfancied provincial club with a fairly modest fan base. Potentially, we could draw on millions in the wider area, but we're too close to London and its alternative attractions, footballing and otherwise. If Madejski is either unwilling or unable to finance a significantly increased outlay, where will that money come from? No one else seems interested in buying the club, and we've had to reduce ticket prices since coming down. As our time in the PL showed, the huge increase in TV revenue is quickly swallowed by inflated wages, and banks are much less willing to give clubs unlimited credit it seems.
This is profoundly true
Madejski seems perhaps overly cautious, but fair enough, it's his money. And frankly, he's the one who is the successful businessman; unless there are loads of self-made millionaires on here, I figure he's the one who knows what he's talking about. People are just going to have to accept that he has opted for limited personal risk, I think ever since the collapse of ITV Digital.

And personally, whilst that first season was fun, I think the Premiership is shit anyway. Why would I want to pay £35-40 a week to watch us try to cling to bottom-16 status?
Totally agree.

We're competative at this level,
This is where we are parting company. Madejski is letting the club free fall to the level at which it will become self sufficient. He will no longer prop up the club, and I agree, that unlike other "mongs" that chucking money guarantees any degree of success. Where I differ is that any business, football or otherwise, depend on the income from sales to exceed expenditure.
Too many put forward the argument that it is solely underinvestment is the cause why football clubs get into problems. Not True.
British Leyland went under, not through underinvestment, but because their cars were crap. Anyone who owned an Austin maxi will confirm that it had all the comfort and refinement of a cantilver toolbox.
There is more than one way to football oblivion, Doesn't matter how good the accountants say how great the firm is.... If the product's crap, it won't sell.
