Pablo “Gylfi, on a personal level, wanted the move and to take this step up and grab this opportunity.

This is what the club has to say so the supporters wont be furious! And maybe Gylfi wanted the move when he realised that Reading were accepting every bid for him

So do you really, seriously think that he'd ever turn this move down to stay at Reading for a while longer? Would you in his circumstances?

Yes, if he wanted to hang on for a move the the premiership, which he did. Reading accepted the bid and we told him to leave as we needed the cash, but I personally don't believe he really wanted to sign for some mid table German side. I only hope it proves to be the right decision for him.

Whereas, in reality, there was agreement with him (as with every player), that if an offer over a certain, agreed amount, came in it would be put to him.

An offer came in from Hoffenheim - who have actually been trailing him and in communication with RFC for a couple of years - which was above that amount, and so that offer was put to him. The personal terms and the German coaching standards appealed to him and he accepted the offer.

No Premier League club made any offer for him, and he was categorically not pressured to leave.

Why must there always be conspiracy, underhand-doings or an attempt to pervert the truth - usually what actually happened is a lot simpler and easier, even if it doesn't fit the agenda that people are trying to push on an internet message-board. Occam's Razor and all that.

Just LOL @ anybody who still thinks a 20-year-old would chose Reading over the Bundesliga.

That ties up with what I've been told and I have this as 2nd hand information...i.e. Gylfi has told somebody who has told me.

From the clubs perspective though, if you have the opportunity to solve all your cashflow problems in one go and have money left over to bring in players to address the unbalanced squad (not enough defenders) then you would do it.

Making that decision would have been pretty easy if I was in charge. Unfortunately a lot of fans can't see past the "emotional" side in their support of the club to see the business that is behind it.

In every business the people at the top have to make the tough decisions in the best interests of their business even though they know it will upset a lot of people. We are fortunate we have a Chairman who is willing to do that to ensure this club remains on a sound financial footing for the foreseeable future.

He's not English ,so while he might have wanted to play in the premiership, he's unlikely to have regarded it as the be all and end all of world football that many English fans regard it as.

And who say Reading were "accepting every bid for him"? Unless, of course, someone wants to be pedantic and state that accepting all 1 bids for him is acepting every bid.

Here's something interesting for anyone that doesn't have a social life!

ESPN is free this weekend, and Hoffenheim's game with Schalke is on tomorrow at 7:30.

You're welcome

maybe spot on, but the romantic in me wishes it were not so.

I still feel sad when I see Doyle in another shirt. Absolute hero of mine.

Good spot, Spud Gun - that's a very well-researched piece and accurately tuned in, too. Even if the URL was written by the 16-year-old office trainee...

Same here, and the same goes for Marcus, but I would have been asking serious questions if this bid had been rejected....................................that would have been as ludicrous as most of the sentimental cr@p that has been posted on this subject.

Yes,it hurts, but this is the price of failure. Some should be asking themselves where we might have ended up without this deal.

I just can't wait until football starts again. These transfer windows/international breaks do my head in.

Same way that a lot of these people above don't see past the business side of football which is totally ridiculous seeing as its a game. Reading are just an extreme example of a club that put business before the actual healthiness of a football team. If they keep it up for much longer there won't be many fans coming to watch us in a few years time, its already on the decline. Everyone accepts you have to sell your best players every now and then and I fully accept sig was going because of the talent he has. But when you look at our track record of shipping off all our best players over the last few years its easy to see why the clubs in such a decline and why the fans arent happy. We never invested much in the prem and we thought that would secure out future, but here we are acting like we are in administration barking out the same " securing the clubs future" line that we've been using for about 3 years.

But we all have an approximate idea of what the turnover will be this coming season, and it would be best all round if the club budget to that figure, depending on results it still might be higher or lower. If we are on TV less there will be less income for a start, our league position also dictates income at the end of the season.

It really made me proud to see us move Siggy on to a top club, having seen him last season against Burton you could tell he had something, as many have said, best product since N Webb.

There are many ex-millionaires who wish they had seen football as a business and not just as a game.

So then how does that apply to Middlebrough? They have spent shed loads yet are seeing a bigger decline in attendances than we are.

Many clubs are seeing attendances fall it is just what happens some times. True fans should support the team whatever is going on on the pitch, and it is only the occasional/fairweather/plastic/whatever else you want to call them type of fans who desert the clubs when times aren't quite so good.

Gylfi wont be in the squad tonight. I mean he only started training with Hoffenheim this wednesday due to international duty.

I'm happy to support a club regardless of what is happening on the pitch but not regardless of what is going on in the boadroom. I support Reading FC and, despite what some still claim, Madejski is not Reading FC.

That changed when the club adopted professionalism, FR. Ultimately, it's all about money - who we can buy, what we can pay, where we play...

THis club wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him. We have seen a stability over the past 2 decades that very few other clubs can match.

Just becuase he no longer invests his OWN money does not mean he is bad for this club. I don't want my club to be sold out to rich owners who will play with it like a toy/hobby.
