I thought we would struggle without the Sig today and at times it showed.
Our midfield was more or less outplayed by theirs, however due to Palarse being utter garbage at the back and up front, we won this fairly comfortably in the end. (Without really getting out of second gear)
Special mention to Palarses number 31 and their carthorse number 5 ( who had a particularly amusing hissy fit!)

I thought the spine of the team today consisting of Jem, Pearce and Long were really good today. Cummings was also a lot better than I had previously seen. (All players I thought were not up to Championship standard)

However I think that we still need a midfield play maker. As good as Karacan, Howard and Bryn are at breaking up the oppo's play, they are not really going to fill Sig's boots (Of course I may be proved wrong as Jem was making some good runs forward today)

Today was just the sort of game we needed to win. If we had lost that with a couple of away games coming up the pressure would have been on.

Well played Reading and see you at the New Den on Tuesday.

Oh and LOL at the Palarse Chavs!
They made ours look posh!

paultheroyal Bit of a strange game really.

Cummings was sound and impressed with his pace. Harte was assurred and looks a good addition. Mills in my opinion was getting close to a second yellow card in the first half. Kebe excellent. Mcanuff quiet. Karacan was excellent and i am not a fan of his. Gunnarrsson looked jaded for me and in need of a rest. Long worked hard for the team and is getting better and better. Howard is the weak link for me, with poor passing, poor finishing and a yard off the pace.

Looking forward to Tuesday.

I agree with all of this, but Cummings got roasted a few times by their winger and was very slow getting back into position second half. 2-0 up and cruising, shouldn't be massive gaps down the right side - leaving yourself vulnerable when you aren't chasing the game is foolish. However, great tackle on danns and he did do some solid things. Definitely no more than backup when griffin is back. Word on karacan, was quality second half - I say it time and time again, he is the worst shooter of the ball I can ever remember so he needs to stop shooting at goal, I can't remember him hitting the target this season, please pass it to someone else like he did in the second half and we nearly scored. Do this more often please, he stepped it up a LOT second half compared to the first too.

Howard The Duck is the greedyist player on the pitch and needs to castrated so that he stops thinking about himself and actually shares and passes the ball. He is a useless hunk of man meat.

I seem to remember he had a cracking shot (Karacan) in the first half from about 25 yards out that went inches wide. He can score goals, so I don't think he should always pass instead of shoot.

First half he had one that went narrowly wide, over the course of the season thats probably about the only one out of about 15 attempts. He needs to not shoot. Howard and sig you think there is a chance something would go in, not with karacan im afraid. His goalscoring record is pretty bad for us.

Spot on about his shooting. Cant recall where he gets a chance at one of his "flash chances" in and around the box and actually tests the keeper.

Something that i do see. Turn your attention to Howard, and leave Fed alone, who i believe is a quality keeper.

Old one foot is highly frustrating to watch and would rather see Jake Taylor or even Scott Davies in the side ahead of him

McAnuff battled hard, not his most effective game going forwards but did a lot of work off the ball which will go largely unnoticed. Karacan very good, blistering strike in 1st half which just went over

Harte my man of the match....brought the ball forward well, some top class passes out to Jimmy on the wing and a debut goal. Looks to have the right kind of spirit too, determined in the challenge and seems to still have a healthy appetite for the battle. Or maybe it's just where Williams is so poor that my Nan could've played left back today and I'd have been raving about the performance

SHORT AND CURLY I thought we would struggle without the Sig today and at times it showed.

You mean like we didn't struggle against Scunthorpe and Forest with Sigurdsson.

Yes I see your point.

Agree with all of this, Paul.

I think the one, main fault today was mcderm not taking off either gunnar, howard or karacan our 3 fit midfielders, played 90 mins and we have a game in a few days, seemed bizarre not even 1 of them came off

sorry but cummings scared the shit out of me....
he was clueless for 90% and was lucky that this palace side were weak
Harte was impressive ,when he got beaten for pace early on he used his body well , and showed pace isn't everything ( don't remember him giving the ball away once )
jem was good
gunnarson cleaned up well but forward was pants
Feds pulled off a nice save first half
long did lone role well , good strength holding up the ball
kebe got the break he deserved for a well taken goal
howard was poor
pearce and mills were solid
ref was shit for first half , average for second half
mcnuff was ok

Probably in a minority of 1, but for long spells of that game i was utterly bored. Mainly at the sub standard level of play from both sides. Couldn't see a goal coming unless there was a mistake or a shot from 25 yards or something. As it happens 2 penalties, neither of which I thought were penalties at first glance.

Palace were absolutely terrible as I expected. They've had a lot of turmoil and were missing a couple of their best players but they literally had 1 chance in 93minutes of play. Even then the guy shanked it and Federici turned it aside.

Harte looks a good player, obviously lacks pace but one of very few players to actually make passes with any conviction and he took his penalty very well. Karacan too had a very strong secnd half but that midfield 3 doesn't convince me long term. It worked today against a poor Palace side but Gunnarsson and Karacan are too similar and Brian Howard is just average, he hasn't impressed me in any game i have watched him play. Reading's major strength is out wide and neither winger got into the game enough for me nor ran at thir full backs enough, McAnuff especailly was quiet in a game you'd thought he'd be right up for. Little mention for Shaun Cummings who for the most part did a decent job at full back, I think he's shown a lot of heart to come back strong after what was a dismal start to his RFC career.

Reading deservedly won the game, the scoreline was flattering in my opinion, I don't think Reading were 3 goals better and without a helping hand (no pun intended) from the referee it undoubtedly would have been a lot closer game.

I've only read two other comments, but I'm going to make a sweeping statment nonetheless.

Complain about McAnuff all you want, but he's a top Championship winger who got marked and tackled out of the game today by the best right back in the division. Got past Clyne a couple of times, but largely limited. Yes, he was quiet, but that's not a criticism of him but a compliment to the defender.
