It really is a load of bollocks suggesting we are a really quiet home support. Just been reading the Cardiff City message-board and some of their posters were complaining about the lack of atmosphere at their match yesterday....so it really isn't just us.
It was quiet during the first half yesterday but once we scored the atmosphere picked up. No different to most fan bases around the country. I don't think the new stadia help. Maybe its the acoustics.

Reading 3-2 Middlesbrough
and bizarrely Reading 0-1 Chelsea in the League Cup years ago.

Nothing else has come close to these for atmosphere, for me. Whilst admittedly I don't go a lot, I haven't experienced 'loud' at the Madejski for a hell of a long time.

Did anyone here go to the Palace game away last season, or the year before that......?

I only ask this as it seems many of those Palace fans didnt. Reading fans totally outsung Palace on both occasions, even the in the 0-0 game there was a fantastic atmosphere in the away end. Palace fans did not sing at all at Selhurst, only a tiny section in the bottom right of the stand, which i think is their new 'ultra's.' (a bunch of kids). Indeed a fair few of their posts started with the classic newbie line of 'i have never been to Reading away before', so it was big day out for them and they sung as best they could. Fair play to them.

We were outsung yesterday, awful from us, but coming from Palace fans, it really is the pot calling the kettle black. I have been to so many matches where its the other way around. Away at Portsmouth this season, against support who are known for their singing, we outsung them.

Nothing to worry about. If you want to improve the atmosphere at home, try singing. I know many on this board just like to sit in silence and moan.

Away support generally is louder, whoever the club is. Only the committed travel, and that commitment is usually backed up vocally, often after a good "fuelling up" in a strange hostelry.

I also think that like all matches, what is going on on the pitch has a direct effect on those who are spectating.
For a good half-hour on Saturday, it looked like it was going to be a dour scrap.
The home team played better in the second half, and consequently, so did the home fans.

I sit in the north stand, and was impressed by the numbers and volume of the Palace fans, given the start they have had to the season.
Having a large, loud and passionate support can obviously help, but it did Newcastle no service against that football monolith, Blackpool, at the weekend.

Away fans generally sing, home fans generally don't, it's the same at pretty much every club in the country.

I could not give one shiny shite what opposition fans think of the 'quality' of our support and won't be losing a whole lot sleeep over how 'embarassing' it is.

To me, more embarassing is the pantomite of gimps pretending to try and get to the rival fans safe in the knowledge that there is no possibility of this happening. I'd love to have seen some of these retards back in the day when there was little or no segregation.
