Royal Rother Burnham's 2nd goal was cored by Will Dunlop according to other sources (incl their own website....)

Indeed. Their #5. Big unit and marshalled the defence very well

... quick repeat of last season's 2nd Qualifying Round @ York Rd - hope the results not the same - The Magpies got a right 2-5 gubbing off of the 'Cornishmen!'

... here's our STEP5 clubs:
- Tough draw for Thame away at Poole
- Chertsey get a neat one away at Conf-South Chelmsford
- If Wootton Bassett Town can bt Hamble tomorrow eve then they get an ALL Hellenic tie H v Old Woodstock - so at least one local STEP5 club into the 3rd Qualifying Round! :D
- Guildford City v Clevedon Town
- Alton Town v Cinderford

... other sometime 'locally featured' NL clubs:
If Diddy win tomorrow vs Ciren Town they travel to the winners of tonights (Mon) replay between Tiverton & Paulton
Basingstoke @ Almondsbury Town or Bristol MF
Fleet Town @ Bashley
Woking @ Bps Cleeve
Hungerford should get past Sherborne of the Western league
Burnham similarly favoured H vs Whitehawk - though the Sussex club are now up in Ryman One.
Farnborough over at Chippenham Town
Staines have a short trip to Tooting & M

went to the Farnborough v Maidenhead match - Magpies slow to get going again but more than held their own for the middle half of the match, playing some good football on the excellent pitch at Cherrywood Rd. 2-all draw about right, Boro looked sharper going forward (and in Bradley Bubb have a winger with enough pace to trouble full-backs at higher levels) but were shaky at the back, their midfield seems not so interested in covering the back 4.

That stand's a sorry sight though.

Terminal Boardom Wot no fixtures for tonight?

... sorry bit remiss of me - usual service a bit impacted this week by:

a) no ^&%$ing babysitters so I can't go anywhere
b) STILL suffering from a f@(£!8g cold - had it since we got back from the IoW
c) distracted by the news that my plans for a Wed night game have been thrown into a bit of turmoil this PM. The N.Berks league have decided they can't have any more early MW KOs starting this week. - I was thinking about taking both my boys out to Crowmarsh Gifford v Saxton Rovers tomorrow eve for a nice early evening jaunt.

... so its a bit late I know (sorry  ) but here's tonights 'local' games - well one's nearby I'd have thought about going to had I not been 'grounded'!

SOUTHP
Windsor & Eton v Chesham United
SOUTH1C
19:30 Burnham v Bedfont Town 7.30
Slough Town v Marlow @ Beaconsfield
SOUTH1SW
19:30 Hungerford Town v Bishops Cleeve 7.30
COCOP
Southern Combination Challenge Cup – 2nd Round
Frimley Green v Knaphill
EL Records Premier Challenge Cup – 1st Round
Sandhurst Town v Chertsey Town
HELLP
Ardley United v Bracknell Town
Flackwell Heath v Reading Town
Kidlington v Old Woodstock Town
Wantage Town v Carterton
Hellenic League Floodlit Cup
R2 Wokingham & Emmbrook v Thame United

... haven't checked if any of these have fallen foul of this poxy weather either - the official fixture list site is 'down' this evening. :|

Tomorrow night I'm going to zip along the M4 to:

HELLP
Shrivenham v Shortwood

.. not much else on

.... promise to try harder next week!

Last night's round-up of 'local' NL sides:-

FA CUP 1Q replay
Salisbury City 5-0 Highworth Town
Wootton Bassett Town 0-2 Hamble ASSC
SOUTHP
Banbury United 1-4 Bashley
Oxford City 0-1 Cambridge City
Windsor & Eton 1-0 Chesham United
SOUTH1C
Burnham 1-1 Bedfont Town
Slough Town 1-3 Marlow att: 200 +
SOUTH1SW
Hungerford Town 1-2 Bishops Cleeve
Stourport Swifts 0-1 Abingdon United - United stay top 100% record so far

COCOP
Bookham 1-2 Horley Town
Epsom & Ewell 1-5 Guildford City
Southern Combination Challenge Cup – 2nd Round
Frimley Green 2-0 Knaphill
- this Cup was won by RTFC last season - they've been drawn away in the opening round @ CCL1 side Westfield (play in a park almost next door to Woking FC's Kingfield Stadium) - scheduled for Tue 28th Sept 19:30 KO.
The Hellenic fixture site shows them away at Westfields  - who are an entirely different club altogether from somewhere in the Midlands - there IS another Westfield (no 'S' on the end) from the wilds of West Sussex - I think but I'm fairly sure its a typo - though I think Crawley Down have entered recently and they are from Sussex!

EL Records Premier Challenge Cup – 1st Round
Badshot Lea 5-1 Chobham
Sandhurst Town 2-0 Chertsey Town

HELLP
Ardley United 4-1 Bracknell Town
Flackwell Heath 4-0 Reading Town
Kidlington 1-2 Old Woodstock Town
Wantage Town 5-0 Carterton
Witney Utd 1-3 Oxford City Nomads – Nomads first points of the season after 7 straight defeats - during which they’d conceded 44 goals – something’s gone very wrong at Witney!
Hellenic League Floodlit Cup Round 2
Hook Norton 0-2 Newbury (aet)
Wokingham & Emmbrook 1-0 Thame United
(Binfield bt Milton Utd 8-1 on Monday in the same competition)

... gone a bit quiet on here this week - all still chewing over EURO CHUMPS and the lads point at The New Den?

...anywhich - thought I'd atone for my recent slackness and get this w/e Preview in early for you all. :P

It's FA Vase w/e again - now up to the 2nd Qualifying Round - there's still a few 'local' NL clubs with byes into subsequent rounds - usually one's with good recent records or those who finished high up - RTFC start @ next round (1st 'Proper' on w/e 2nd Oct) -
EDIT: CORRECTION - draw already done.
Is available via 'theFA.com' link mentioned somewhere above - if you scroll down Fixtures far enough beyond the FA Trophy games on the same Saturday - I think I may even have mention some time ago that RTFC have been drawn at home to Newport Pagnell or Clapton

FA CARLSBERG VASE – 2nd Qualifying Round
Abingdon Town v Holyport
Alton Town v Greenwich Borough
Ascot United v Hertford Town
Ash United v Corinthian
Binfield v Bethnal Green United
Bitton v Thame United
Bowers & Pitsea v Wantage Town- (no replay ET + pens)
Crawley Down v Farnham Town
Fleet Spurs v Rye United- (no replay ET + pens)
Frimley Green v Bookham
Harefield United v AFC Wallingford - bit of a 'novelty' entry these days - since they are now in the N.Berks down at STEP07. Think they get offered an entry for past glories and often seem to be given byes past the Preliminary rounds too - not sure for how long this will continue - they invariably get battered. :?
London APSA v Sandhurst Town
Newbury v Southend Manor
Sawbridgeworth Town v Shrivenham
South Park v Guildford City
Wokingham & Emmbrook v Langford
Winchester City v Hamble ASSC

CONFS
Basingstoke Town v Thurrock
Bishop's Stortford v Hampton & R'mnd Boro
Dartford v Bromley
Maidenhead United v Staines Town
Welling United v Woking

ISTH1S
Godalming Town v Sittingbourne

SOUTHP
Chippenham Town v Didcot Town
Hemel Hempstead Town v Truro City
Windsor & Eton v Halesowen Town
SOUTH1C
Beaconsfield SYCOB v AFC Hayes
Burnham v Biggleswade Town
Uxbridge v Marlow
SOUTH1SW
Abingdon United v Wimborne Town
Hungerford Town v Clevedon Town

COCOP
Camberley Town v Epsom & Ewell

COCO1
Eversley v Knaphill
Hartley Wintney v Staines Lammas

HELLP
Carterton v Bracknell Town
Flackwell Heath v Highworth Town
Shortwood United v Reading Town
HELL1E
Didcot Town Reserves v Finchampstead
Farnborough Reserves v Woodley Town @ ex-Bisley FC
Henley Town v Chinnor
WESS1
Tadley Calleva v Petersfield Town

... Our current plan is to head down to deepest Sussex for a Vase tie - first choice :
Shoreham v East Cowes
... with stand-bys - should the M25 be c@cked - en route @
Redhill v Colliers Wood
E.Grinstead v Newport IoW
Crawley Down v Farnham Town

Having playes in one of these games last week, it was a nonsense 10 mins before the end!! Absolute darkness.

We played over at Kintbury on monday night, they've got a nice setup there with floodlights so was fine and we are playing at Shrivenham tonight as they also have floodlights.

Excellent win for W&E in the week against Chesham Utd.

Chesham looked a very good footballing side, building confidently from the back, all composed in possession, whareas we were happy lumping it away from trouble.

Having said that the defence was superb and in Justin Clayton (ex Southend youngster) and Dave Woozley (Palace, Torquay, Oxford etc.) we have a partnership that is developing all the time. They have been virtually faultless recently.

We're not just a long-ball team though, far from it and we did have a bit of ole, ole, ole, as we strung together some good passing movements. Our wingers are always dangerous but the instinctive undrstanding isn't quite there in midfield yet so we do tend to hoof it a bit. Still, to be 8th in the division at this stage with an almost entirely new squad is a great start tbf. Certainly better than most of us were expecting.

..aha! ( sorry!  ) I was going to ask you about this very matter.

.... there's a post/query over on the NLM/Tony K. forum in response to this directive from the league re 'only clubs with lights.'

it does appear that the N.Berks websites' club info shows that two of the teams mentioned as being 'lit' DO NOT play at their Senior Clubs' venue.

Wantage 'A' usually play at the Leisure Centre @ Portway which may/may not have lights and Shrivvy 'A' are supposed to play at some military (Joint Services Command College) base or other @ Watchfield (?) presumably ALSO under lights - 18:30 KO ?

Co-incidentally I was @ Shrivenham Rec last night to see them get a right battering from Shortwood -Utd in the Hellenic Prem - easy to see why they are quite a few people's tip to win this seasons title.

Good luck tonight - wherever you're playing - though after a 6-0 win on Mon. I doubt you'll need much? 8)

We are playing at Shrivenham Rec tonight. The RMC does have lights but i suppose with no other game on their main pitch tonight they/we get to play there instead. I presume Wantage Town A have the same and can play on the main pitch there.

Think 2 of our forwards are away tonight which is a pretty big blow as we only have 3 forwards in the club pretty much!!

And before RR gets on here, Windsor had a really good 2-1 home win today against Halesowen to take them up to 6th in the Southern Premier. They should have won by more and the last 20 minutes saw Windsor play some excellent football.

A question for everyone which even Halesowen fans could not answer when asked. Why are they nicknamed "The Yeltz"?

Hi TB, good wasn't it?!

Dave Mudge has done extraordinarily well putting this team of new faces together in such a short time. Seedel, Bullivant and Jack may struggle to get a place when fit...

The defence looks even better than last year's when Fagan and Butler were so strong.

Who'd a thought it? Not me after that 4-0 drubbing by Cirencester.

Oh, and to answer your question:

It's a little known fact that immediately after World War II, Halesowen were one of the first clubs to field a foreign international - legendary Hungarian centre-forward Pungus Catfich.

Catfich, of course, played in the 30's for the mighty Banci-Hanso team as well as the national side, for whom he scored may goals feeding off the wingers Detrtius and Invertebratech before the outbreak of war.

In 1946 he moved to England to play in the B'ham Combination which many people judged stronger than the Football League, and Halesowen were lucky enough to secure his services (mainly because they found him work - the league was amateur - at the world-famous Halesowen Button factory).

Over the next few years, Pungus became one of the most popular players ever to wear the Blue and White (those were the days - ed) - yes, even more popular than "Sir" Johnny Woodhouse. In 1949 a local brewery followed their instinct and immortalised him as No. 1 in a series of dripmats.

Catfich returned to hungary in the early 50's and apparently lived happily until his peaceful passing on in 1983, just weeks after seeing his beloved Yeltz at Wembley. YELTZ!?! - I KNEW there was something I had to mention.

Although Pungus' English was good he often reverted to his native tounge on the pitch. Thus older Grove fans may remember his plaintive cry of "Yeltz, Albert, Yeltz" which roughly translated from the Magyar means "over here, son, on my head"

Bizarrely, the truth seems to be that no-one really knows.
