I will say, we've had a clear example of the Bundesliga suffering in the same way this summer. Özil and Khedira both heading off to the very same club as Drenthe struck me as a bit of a blow, given that the BL is now firmly the third league of Europe and is closing in on La Liga all the time. I think you're doing the Eredivisie a disservice by placing it below Ligue 1 though - the French league's been getting gradually worse for some time now, and I know which one I'd rather watch.

Four teams maintained their unbeaten records during round 5 of the Eredivisie, PSV regaining top spot on goal difference ahead of previous leaders Ajax after a 3-1 win over NEC at the Philips Stadion. NEC headed into the half time break a goal up courtesy of a John Goossens free kick on 37, however second half goals from Danny Koevermans immediately after kick off, and two quick strikes just after the hour from Ibrahim Afellay and Ola Toivonen sealed victory. NEC drop three positions to 9th.
Ajax also secured victory by a much lesser margin than was expected against Willem II at the Amsterdam ArenA, relying on two Luis Suarez penalties on 34 and 54. Both PSV and Ajax are sitting pretty on 13 points with a mere single goal separating the two teams, while despite their encouraging performance Willem II are rooted to the foot of the table with five defeats from five.
Of the other two teams remaining unbeaten, FC Twente conceded their first goal of the season but still managed to win 2-1 against VVV-Venlo at De Koel. Luuk de Jong was the mastermind of victory providing assists for Bryan Ruiz on the half hour and Roberto Rosales twenty minutes from time. A Partick Paauwe penalty dissected Twente’s goals but it proved to be a mere consolation. FC Twente remain 3rd, VVV drop a place to 16th.
FC Groningen’s impressive start continued at Euroborg against FC Utrecht courtesy of a late penalty from Andreas Granqvist. A close fought game, Granqvist’s effort was the only goal which ensures Groningen remain in 4th while FC Utrecht drop two places to 11th.
Roda JC climb to 5th after an impressive 2-1 victory at AZ’s AFAS Stadion. Early goals in both halves secured victory for the Kerkrade club, both set up by Morten Skoubo. Laurent Delorge’s 6th minute effort was cancelled out by Rasmus Elm’s 27th minute free kick, however Roda JC ensured victory with a 52nd minute goal from Willem Janssen. AZ drop to 15th.
Excelsior’s fantastic start to life back at the top level continued with another impressive victory over Heracles Almelo at Stadion Woudestein. Heracles were leading at half time courtesy of Mark-Jan Fledderus’s on 36 minutes, however Excelsior’s endeavours were rewarded on the hour by Roland Bergkamp, and the winner was scored by Leen van Steensel with 15 minutes remaining. Excelsior climb to 5th as a result of victory and are Rotterdam’s premier club at the present moment, while Heracles drop a couple of positions to 13th.
Heerenveen left it late against Vitesse Arnhem at the Abe Lenstra Stadion but ended up 2-1 winners. Davy Propper gave Vitesse the lead with only a quarter hour remaining however an 88th minute penalty appeared to give Heerenveen a point. But in the 5th minute of injury time Oussama Assaidi secured three points for the home side. Vitesse drop to 17th, second bottom, while Heerenveen climb to 7th.
Feyenoord suffered a late defeat at the Rat Verlegh Stadion, NAC Breda, courtesy of Robbert Schilder’s double strike, firstly on 84, and then a 92nd minute free kick to secure victory. NAC climb to 10th, while Feyenoord fall to 8th.
Lastly, the only draw of the weekend was between ADO Den Haag and De Graafschap at the Kyocera Stadion. Den Haag appeared to have the game sown up on 70 minutes after Kevin Visser gave them a 2-0 lead, however a double strike by Hugo Bargas on 73 and 87 secured the newly promoted club a share of the spoils. Dmitri Boelykin gave Den Haag the lead on 11. AGO remain 12th, while De Graafschap climb to 14th.

Been reading about the state of Inter's finances.
Even with them winning the treble last year they made a €154 million net loss. The year before that they made a net loss of €148 million and the year before that €208 Million. A loss of over half a billion Euro's in 3 years!!!!
According to Il Sole 24 Ore (the Italian equivalent of the Financial Times), Inter’s combined losses during Moratti’s era amount to €1.15 billion.

I thought Serie A were quite strict about he financial viablilty of their clubs? I can recall AC Milan being relegated in the 1980s for breaching Serie A's finanical criteria.

One of the biggest games in Europe saw Ajax edge out arch rivals Feyenoord 2-1 at De Kuip for their first win there in five years and in doing so regain top spot in the Eredivisie, whilst also continuing their unbeaten start. An expected result with Ajax’s superior quality all over the park, Siem De Jong intercepted a pass and set the Amsterdammers on their way five minutes before half time, while Mounir El Hamdaoui was set up by Luis Suarez to double the lead on 56. Andre Bahia set up a tense finale for Ajax, but they were able to hang on in front of the typically hostile Rotterdam crowd. Feyenoord drop to a dismal 10th position and serious questions are being asked of Mario Been.
PSV, leaders going into the weekend’s games, could only muster a goalless draw at Roda JC’s Parkstad Limburg Stadion and therefore drop two points behind Ajax at the top, Roda JC remaining 5th after a somewhat positive result. Likewise a similar result for FC Twente at the Polman Stadion, Almelo where they were held by Heracles. FC Twente drop to 4th while Heracles drop to 15th, but they will surely take the positives from such a good result.
Leapfrogging the Enschede club is FC Groningen who continued their impressive start to the season by winning 2-0 at Euroborg to the similarly impressive Excelsior. Second half goals from Nicklas Pedersen seven minutes into the half and Tim Matavz fifteen from time secured victory and prolong FC Groningen’s unbeaten start to the season. Excelsior remain 6th.
Elsewhere in the division FC Utrecht ran out 3-2 winners against VVV-Venlo in an entertaining game at Stadion Galgenwaard. A Ruud Boymans double wasn’t enough to gain any reward for VVV despite twice taking the lead on 16 and 72, Ricky Van Wolfswinkel’s own double set of equalisers helping FC Utrecht respond quickly to the setbacks with a 27th minute penalty and 78th minute rebound. Nana Asare secured all three points for FC Utrecht on 84, Utrecht moving up to 7th while VVV drop a place to 17th.
Another entertaining game at De Vijverberg where Rydell Poepon inspired De Graafschap to a 3-2 home win against sc Heerenveen. Christian Gringheim gave Heerenveen the lead on 23 only for Muslu Nalbantoglu to quickly equalise on 32, Poepon providing the assist. Poepon secured victory with a second half double on 48 and 84, while Oussama Assaidi’s 54th minute effort proved a fruitless equaliser. De Graafshcap climb a place to 13th, Heerenveen drop to 8th.

Just speaking to my Dutch mate, Ed, worth noting that Feyenoord v Ajax was only a 40k crowd. No away fans allowed of course, they're in the middle of a 5 year ban which means more seats for home fans, and previous to this it would have been a sell out. Unbelievable that a game that attracted 50k Feyenoord fans towards the backend of last season can drop 10k simply due to antipathy towards the club.

Well they are, but there are so many loopholes and fiddles you just wouldnt believe it.
Take Kevin prince Boeteng signing for Genoa, with no intention of him ever playing for the club. Immediately loaned to Milan. Its just a tax fiddle.
& then there was the £7m "dwap deal" where Cannavaro went from Inter to Juve and their 3rd Choice Keeper, who never played, went the other way. They use it to right off tax on profits in exchange for an IOU. Its a bit messed up.

Ajax remain both unbeaten and top of the Eredivisie after the latest round of games in Dutch football, their hard-earned yet ultimately deserved 2-2 draw away at De Grolsch Veste, FC Twente keeping both teams unbeaten. Former Wigan midfielder Denny Landzaat provided Theo Janssen with FC Twente’s 11th minute opener only for a swift reply on the quarter hour for Mounir El Hamdaoui. Luuk De Jong created another Janssen’s second to give FC Twente the lead once more on 62, however another swift reply by Eyong Enoh on 68 ensured a point a-piece. FC Twente remain 4th.
With Ajax dropping points the other two unbeaten teams, PSV and FC Groningen, also drew at the Philips Stadion, PSV missing the chance to return to the top of the pile in the process after FC Groningen’s 88th minute equaliser. Former Villa defender Wilfred Bouma set up the opener just past the hour for Ola Toivonen to turn in, however PSV couldn’t hold out, Gonzalo Garcia intercepting a poor pass and firing home. PSV remain 2nd, FC Groningen 3rd although in all likelihood this will change when quality starts to take it’s toll.
5th places Roda JC came back from two down at sc Heerenveen’s Abe Lenstra Stadion to secure a point late on. Bas Dost set Heerenveen on their way with the opener on the quarter-hour, and he then sent Heerenveen into the half time break two up after his 35th minute strike. However, two quick strikes from Arnaud Sutchuin Djoum with 20 minutes remaining, Mads Junker’s pounce on a rebound on 76 secured a creditable point despite Laurent Delorge’s sending off with 5 remaining. sc Heerenveen drop to 10th.
Dmitri Boelykin and Wesley Verhoek were the architects of victory for ADO Den Haag at the Kyocera Stadion, Boelykin scoring twice from Verhoek’s creativity against Heracles Almelo. Glynor Plet had given Heracles the lead on 17, however Lex Immers equalised after a pass from Boelykin. Boelykin himself gave Den Haag the lead a minute before half time, and he secured victory with a 70th minute third only four minutes after Everton had equalised for Heracles. Den Haag rise to 6th while Heracles drop to 17th.
NEC were one of the weekend’s biggest risers after humiliating Rotterdam giants Feyenoord 3-0 at the Goffert Stadion. Lasse Schone set the Nijmegen club on their way on 19, and two late strikes from Ricky Ten Voorde on 83, and a 92nd minute cherry from Bram Nuytinck ensured Feyenoord were well and truly humbled. NEC climb to 7th, while Feyenoord drop to 13th.
Willem II continue to live a pointless life at the bottom after their latest defeat at the Rat Verlegh Stadion, home of NAC Breda. Andreas Landgren had given former Champions Leaguers Willem II an early lead on 7, but despite this the defensive frailties showed once again as Kees Luijckx struck with a free kick on 65, and former Crystal Palace midfielder Joonas Kolkka latched onto a rebound to fire the winner with 10 minutes left. Seven defeats from seven for Willem II, rooted to the bottom five points behind Heracles, while NAC Breda climb to 8th.

League winners just over a year ago, AZ secured only their second win of the campaign, Rasmus Elm’s 43rd minute free kick ensuring Alkmaar went away with a 1-0 victory over FC Utrecht at the AFAS Stadion. AZ climb to 11th, while FC Utrecht drop to a disappointing 12th.
And finally, Patrick Paauwe’s early penalty miss didn’t deny VVV-Venlo a win over recently promoted De Graafschap. Ruud Boymans was the architect of victory, latching onto Jorge Chula’s pass and slotting home three minutes before half time. Vito Wormgoor’s sending off on 64 was an extra nail in the coffin for De Graafschap who drop a couple of places to 15th. VVV climb to 16th.

The first 7 rounds in the Bundesliga have already flown by, and after vigorous consultation from a wide range of sources, I have managed to deduce that not only are Gylfi Sigurðsson's TSG 1899 Hoffenheim not the biggest and best team in the country, but some of the others have some other quite well-known players! Fancy!
It's a crazy league so far this year. Mainz are the obvious story, having won all of their opening games (including fixtures at Werder and Bayern). A relatively routine home win against a typically just-better-than-average HSV following the international break will mean they take the record for best ever start. Coach Thomas Tuchel has done a great job with sprightly, attacking play and a no-star squad. Lewis Holtby in particular has shone, perhaps leaving low-scoring, big-spending Schalke regretting their choice not to keep him for this season.
Stuttgart have had the strangest set of results so far, it's fair to say. They've scored more goals in the Europa League than points in the domestic league, where they've been abject. The only game which they haven't lost, indeed the only game which they didn't play like a footballing version of the patsy teams faced by the Harlem Globetrotters, was a 7-0 deconstruction of Mönchengladbach. Astonishing - that's two goals more than they've managed in the six other games this season... Khalid Boularouz has finally rediscovered his Chelsea form after two years of fairly solid defending. Sven Ulreich is failing in every regard at replacing Jens Lehmann, who presumably has embarked on a 'My Name is Earl'-style process of making nice with every enemy he made during his insane career. It's going wrong in all departments, and poor Christian Gross seems to be in another impossible situation.
Elsewhere, the Hamburg derby was as uneventful on the pitch as it was off it. Bayern have seemingly decided to continue their recent trend of not participating in odd-numbered seasons, as their awful defence finally takes the balance of play from their marvellous attack. And Steve McLaren has finally worked out that it's a bad idea to change a winning formula, changing his Wolfsburg tactics to closely match those of the championship-winning season, with the result of three straight wins.

Diego, the Brazilian guy they bought from Juve over summer. Thomas Kahlenberg seems to be deputising when he's injured. Grafite is having a real Indian Summer to his career, which is helping matters no end.

OK, thanks. I saw thay'd signed Kjaer but after watching their match against BM I haven't followed them (or any of the Bundesliga) at all.
Stuttgart sack Christian Gross (yes, that one) after 7 games, 6 losses and one 7-0 win so far this season. That's domestically, anyway - in Europe they remain hilariously unbeaten. It seems hasty, given he rescued them from a similarly dire situation last year to end up qualifying for the Europa League, but it's true to say the Swabians have been awful so far. No word on a replacement as far as I know, assistant Jens Keller will lead the team against Schalke at the weekend.
