Bowers & Pitsea 0-1 Wantage Town
Crawley Down 2-0 Farnham Town
Fleet Spurs 1-2 Rye United
Frimley Green 1-2 Bookham
Harefield United 1-2 AFC Wallingford - well just shows how little I know about the strengths/weaknesses of the N.Berks league! :oops: Great result beating a side two STEPS above them. Away again in the next round and @ another S.Mids league side Dunstable Town :P
London APSA 2-1 Sandhurst Town
Newbury 3-1 Southend Manor

… our plans to head down to deepest Sussex for a Vase tie - was well and truly c@cked by both the M25 & the M3 so we never got anywhere near
Shoreham 7-3 East Cowes
…but just made it with hardly any time to spare to :
Redhill 2-5 Colliers Wood

... not a bad Step05 ground squeezed between the A23 and the Railway line just SOUTH of the town. Had a club shop but didn't appear to have anyone to open it! :roll:

Ta ... re IoW clubs - I'm not sure but I think 3 out of 4 are still in :

Next round-

Newport IoW H v Shoreham = who beat the fellow islanders E.Cowes so convincingly, at the game I tried and failed to get to! :evil:
Brading got past Pagham and play another Sussex side on 2nd Oct - not sure which one haven't found the result from Mile Oak v St Francis.

ditto ... not sure about Cowes Sports - currently bottom of the Wessex One - they were playing H vs Wessex Prem side Lymington - but no result available yet.

I expect the FA and Wessex leagues will catch up some time tomorrow and let us know? :?

I'm still not sure what happened in the Hants Senior Cup game last we/ between Guernsey Rangers - who were allowed to enter again this season - and Hamble ASSC.
Will need to look it up on the Hamble clubs' website sometime if I can find it - but not at this late hour!

... by way of update - Cowes Sports lost 0-1 to Lymington in the Vase so 2 out of 4 of the IoW clubs survived - the two 'Premier' division one's.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UPDATE - since no-one else has posted here I'll amend bits of the Preview to a Review!
UPDATE ii) ... and I can do Wednesday's now too . 8)
:P
Monday 20th September
HELLP
Binfield 3-1 Wokingham & Emmbrook - att 284 - I did go and a cracker it was - three very good goals too - especially the brace from (Ian) Davies which were worthy of a much higher level. Wokkers worked hard but had no cutting edge.
Tuesday 21st September
ISTH1S
Godalming Town 4-3 Walton Casuals
Horsham YMCA 2-0 Fleet Town
Walton & Hersham 0-2 Metropolitan Police
SOUTH1C
Northwood 1-6 Marlow
COCOP
Chertsey Town 2-1 Bookham
Molesey 3-0 Sandhurst Town
CCL Premier Challenge Cup – 1st Round
Chessington & Hook United 0-2 Hanworth Villa
Cove 1-2 Epsom & Ewell
Horley Town 3-2 Eversley
Mole Valley SCR 6-1 Sheerwater
CCL1 Challenge Cup – 1st Round
Bedfont Sports 3-0 Westfield
Hartley Wintney 1-0 Frimley Green
HELLP
Bracknell Town 0-3 Flackwell Heath
Reading Town 3-2 Abingdon Town
Witney United 4-3 Highworth Town
Wootton Bassett Town 1-3 Kidlington
WESSEX Prem
Totton & Eling 2-1 Alton Town
Winchester City 2-1 Laverstock & Ford
Wednesday 22nd September
CCL Challenge Cup – 1st Round
Colliers Wood United 2-4 Egham Town [/color]
HELLP
Ascot United 2-3 Ardley United - att 71 - looked more - quite a few league officials present. As usual my domestic circs meant I left home just in time to arrive for KO - meaning I arrived (just) in time but missed out on a prog. :|
Liked the new clubhouse - needs a bit of decor - very bare and wooden.
'Yellamen' fluffed their lines here - they (Ascot) looked completely out of sorts and chucked away their chance to regain top spot - lost count of how often they lost the ball as they got near goal.
The much vaunted (on Hellenic Chat Rooms) Geir and Saunders were anonymous. Ardley were a typical Hellenic outfit - used the tried and tested formula of size, speed and strength on the ball. Ascot had some success when they got the ball down and ran at their visitors through the middle but only started doing it 2nd half and looked very vulnerable on the counter.
I'm assuming/hoping they can be much better so will reserve judgement.
Results elsewhere means this division is simmering very nicely - top 9 seperated by only 3 points
Old Woodstock Town 4-3 Shortwood United
Oxford City Nomads 2-4 Thame United
Shrivenham 2-2 Fairford Town
Slimbridge 2-0 Wantage Town - new leaders - though they've been here before. At the 11th hour the club refused promotion on 'budget' grounds and opted to drop two steps back into County Football - I also think their players might have left en masse had they stepped up to the Southern League - too much travelling. :roll:
Gone exceedingly quiet on this thread - :?:
- so for Insomniacs everywhere I thought I'd update with this w/e's (25th/26th Sept) NL Preview - in spite of BroadBand link response times today that could rival a Dead f@(£!ng Squirrel :evil: :-
FA CUP – 2nd Qualifying Round
Chesham United v Wealdstone
Tooting & Mitcham Utd v Staines Town
Bishop's Stortford v Bromley
North Greenford Utd v Felixstowe & Walton United
Romford v Hampton & Richmond Boro
Burnham v Whitehawk
Metropolitan Police v Burgess Hill Town
Chelmsford City v Chertsey Town
Hamble ASSC v Old Woodstock Town
Eastleigh v Bognor Regis Town
Chippenham Town v Farnborough
Paulton Rovers v Didcot Town
Bristol Manor Farm v Basingstoke Town
Sherborne Town v Hungerford Town
Bashley v Fleet Town
Poole Town v Thame United
Guildford City v Clevedon Town
Bishop's Cleeve v Woking
Maidenhead United v Truro City played same stage last year was 2-5 to the Cornishmen :shock:
Alton Town v Cinderford Town
Full draw available at:
http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/Fixtures.aspx
ANORAK'S TRIV POINT : There are Nine clubs at STEP05 from our ‘local’ leagues::-
CCL x2 (Chertsey, Guildford)
HELLENIC x 2 (Old Woodstock, Thame )
SSML x 0 – their last 6 left in were KO’d in 1st Qual
WESSEX x 3 Poole, Hamble, Alton
WESTERN x 2 Bristol MF, Sherborne (Ok not exactly ‘local’) :?
There will definitely be at least one survivor from this group in the next round cos two of them meet : Hamble v O.Woodstock
At an equivalent level of the Pyramid I’m fairly sure all SUSSEX & ESSEX league clubs are out.
KENT league has four – two of whom meet – so they will have a rep. in 3rd Qual Round.
EASTERN COUNTIES has two
UNITED COUNTIES have one
LEAGUE GAMES:-
ISTH1S
Dulwich Hamlet v Godalming Town
SOUTH1C
Marlow v Leighton Town
Slough Town v Daventry Town
Sheerwater v Hartley Wintney
EL Records Premier Challenge Cup – 1st Round
HELLP
Abingdon Town v Shrivenham
* 17:30 KO Bracknell Town v Shortwood United
Kidlington v Slimbridge
* 14:30 KO Reading Town v Wokingham & Emmbrook
Wantage Town v Wootton Bassett Town
Witney United v Ascot United
HELL1E
* 11:30 KO Finchampstead v Henley Town
Challenge Cup R1
Carterton v Binfield
Chinnor v Lydney Town
*NOTE: It's 'GroundHop' day in the Hellenic hence some staggered KO times to enable possibly 200-300 plus ’Anoraks’ to trek around the local 'boroughs' watching as many of the three games that they can put up with. Extra Progs Badges, Burgers (not sure about RTFC though :twisted: ) & Beer will have been laid on by the clubs involved – who naturally are grateful for the interest and the extra revenue.
HOWEVER anyone pondering the game at Larges Lane @ 17:30, should be aware the A329(M) is closed all w/e between Bracknell and Wokingham – not sure if it IS in both directions but an alternative route – through Bracknell down from the Coppid Beech R’bout is being advised.
WESS1
Amesbury Town v Tadley Calleva
Fleet Spurs v Cowes Sports
## Two further Hellenic ‘GroundHop day’ games up in NW London on Sunday 26th
HELL1E
11:30 KO South Kilburn v Milton Utd @ Vale Fm ‘complex’ Wembley @@
Challenge Cup R1
14:30 KO Rayners Lane v Launton Sports
@@ S.Kilburn play on an outside pitch
– the main Wembley FC pitch will be used the same afternoon for an FA Cup tie:
Hendon v Maldon & Tiptree (15:00 KO)
- so there's a handy alternative to trekking over to Rayners Lane right on the doorstep.
Naah - as usual my hectic domestic duties meant I arrived late-ish (hence no prog :| ) - forgot to take note of his mobile :roll: and he probably didn't get my PM, in time telling him to watch out for a dodgy character in a grubby fleece! :?
I loitered in the bar - Sky HD etc - had a half of Grolsch - not bad.
Got a vague idea having read his PM to me, that we may have met before in former lifetime - praps on the Wed Midweek Cricket scene ?
Certainly was a bloke there on Wed that looked familiar of old and if I remember correctly had the right first name - but by then I was stood with a load of other 'hoppers' and they started grilling me about Ardley. :?
... maybe next time - I'm not intentionally elusive ....... 8)
I like the non-league league cup sponsors!
Lemon Recordings Division 1 challenge cup. Who are Lemon Recordings?
Also what a great idea National Ground Hop day is. Shame Reading are at home today otherwise I would have taken in the Reading Town v Wokingham match.
... the 'music' related sponsorship probably comes from the 'parent' league's own association - Combined Counties are Sponsored by Cherry Red Records.
... personally, though I've nothing but admiration for those who organize and attend these GroundHop days, they are quite common and often straddle matches over bank Holiday w/e. I think the fellahs that sort them out with the clubs and the leagues concerned, try and spread themselves around - different leagues and where practical different clubs each time - though S.Kilburn was 'picked' last year.
I'd much rather see clubs in their 'natural habitat' rather than swamped with a couple of hundred, more than likely, 'one-time only visitors' who usually spend all game reminiscing with each other and quite possibly ignoring the game in front of them. Going 'native', you've more chance of unearthing 'local' characters and finding out far more about the club. 8)
... and you're fairly sure of getting a half-time beer/burger etc without queueing for ages.
As long as they put much needed funds in to their hosts' bank accounts then I'm sure most people are happy.
I did play midweek cricket back in the 80s and 90s :o I was there and I concur with your observations regarding the new clubhouse. Very nice but lacking in character. I got gassing to a couple of hoppers also and did they have some stories. What I did find out is that the Wootton Bassett programme is a must buy. 60+ pages and loads of colour and only £1. BTW, I got a programme from Wednesday night. Ner ner ni ner ner :lol:
Not decided yet where to go this afternoon as I have a family dinner tonight.
... yup the WBT prog is indeed a goody but for Gargantuan portions, if you ever manage to stray that far round the M25, you have to get hold of a Hoddesdon Town one - no word of a lie - its infamous - 120 pages with an 80 page supplement for an FA Vase Tie when I went ! :shock: :shock: - Phone Directory or what!
Obviously at M'Stad this PM - marvellous :D
- anyway weighing up some Vase games for next w/e - there's plenty to choose from - the knack is picking one that isn't dependent upon our wonderful Motorway network - or at least having plenty of decent standby alternative games.
Hopefully. Not quite sure how, as Cinderford doesn't have a railway station. Why do I get the feeling that Cinderford will be a lot like Royston Vasey?
...is certainly one of the more 'remote' clubs when it comes to Public Transport
.. here's the entry from the invaluable (for those w/o cars) 'Getting to Football' website:-
Cinderford Town Causeway Stadium, Edge Hills Road, Cinderford, Gloucestershire GL14 2QH
Station: Gloucester 14½m. Stagecoach Wye and Dean buses 30/31 from Gloucester (Bus Station) to Cinderford (High Street at Woodgate Road); half hourly, takes 36 mins. Then up Woodgate Road, right at end into Causeway Road, left into Edge Hills Road and ground is on left (¼m).
... here's the main website for those of that persuasion.
http://www.andyofkent.exofire.net/gtfindex.html
... for additional info here's Cinderford's site too 8)
http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/cinderfordtown/
PS Is it just me this morning, or is the Editor on HNA suffering from 'Scroll' trouble? Can't type anything without it disappearing off the bottom of the screen!
i.e. EVERY Keystroke causes a Screen Line Feed!! Anyone else had/got this ?
:evil:
PS can’t add my usual ‘erudite’ asides this week – this f@(£!ng LineFeed/Scroll problem makes it impossible to type and see what I’m typing and I can’t be f@gged to do it on Word first – also means I can’t easily get the 'fancy' formatting bold/colours etc like I do when I type ‘native’.
Maybe next time?
This PM's Scores from 'local' NL sides:-
FA VASE 1st Round Proper
Barking 1-2 Flackwell Heath
Binfield 2-1 Hillingdon Borough
Wantage Town 2-1 Shrivenham
Dunstable Town 5-0 AFC Wallingford
Reading Town 4-2 Newport Pagnell Town - minor surprise - though RTFC are very hot/cold this season - NPT had won 6 from 7 I think, before this game.
Chalfont St Peter 6-0 Newbury
Bracknell Town 2-0 Wodson Park
Guildford City 3-2 Horley Town
Colliers Wood United 5-2 Cove
Egham Town 2-0 Molesey
Bookham 0-4 Herne Bay
Camberley Town 2-1 Blackfield & Langley
Cadbury Heath 2-1 Wootton Bassett Town
Kidlington 0-1 Bitton AFC
FA TROPHY Preliminary Round
Fleet Town 3-1 Tilbury
Burnham 1-1 Northwood
Andover 2-3 Bideford (@ Winchester)
Slough Town 2-2 Marlow
Bedfont Town 0-2 Uxbridge
North Greenford Utd 2-1 Thatcham Town
Taunton Town 2-2 Hungerford Town
... replays this Tuesday - Hungerford tie might be a 19:30 KO
CONFS
Bromley 1-1 Ebbsfleet United
Chelmsford 2-0 Maidenhead Utd
Eastleigh 0-1 Basingstoke
Farnborough 1-0 Lewes
Hampton & Richmond 3-2 Dover
Staines Town 0-1 Havant and W
Woking 0-1 Braintree Town
SOUTHP
Chesham United 2-1 Weymouth
Didcot Town 1-2 Cirencester Town
Swindon Supermarine 1-1 Windsor & Eton
SOUTH1SW
Abingdon United 1-2 Almondsbury Town – started season with 5 matches 100% now 3 defeats in a row incl a 0-4 and 0-7 :?
COCOP
Ash United 1-4 Sandhurst Town
Chertsey Town 5-2 Wembley
COCO1
Bedfont Sports 5-2 Westfield
Cobham 2-5 Hartley Wintney
Eversley 0-2 South Park
Farnborough North End 2-0 Feltham
Farnham Town 2-0 Staines Lammas
Knaphill PP Chobham - doubt if it was weather related - possibly away side struggling to raise an XI - will check
UPDATE: As suspected - was an issue with Chobham who couldn't raise an XI - bit worrying for a Club in what is supposed to be a Senior League. Doubt if the League Commitee will look too kindly on this - quite a few on the CCL Forum are advocating immediate expulsion! :shock:
Shame : was quite a friendly, if very basic set up, when I went last season.
Hayes Gate 3-0 Frimley Green
HELLP
Abingdon Town 2-2 Wokingham & Emmbrook
Ascot United 0-2 Carterton - bit of a shock losing to team who were 2nd bottom
Highworth Town 1-1 Thame United
Oxford City Nomads 5-2 Shortwood Utd – even bigger shock perhaps than Ascot losing
Witney Utd 1-3 Ardley – Away side now 4 points clear
HELL1E
Chinnor 0-2 Woodley Town
Henley Town 1-1 Milton United
WESSP
Alton Town 1-3 New Milton Town
We got down to a fairly drab Vase Tie at Brislington - southern suburbs of Brizzle - traffic around the Ring Road was a b@$t@r£ - we got there just as they kicked off - crowd just over 80 - but no progs left :evil:
Home side from the Western Premier [STEP05] contrived to look very ordinary and go out 0-1 against a lively Cornish outfit [STEP06 South West Peninsula league - Premier?] St.Blazey from just north of St Austell.
Away side had had a 3 1/2 hr trip and their supporters far outnumbered the home fans and thier side fully deserved to progress.
Went along to the Reading Town game on the saturday and was quite impressed by the football and facilities although apparently the performances have been a bit Jekyll and Hyde so far this season and i went on a good day. Overall I'll have to say it was a more enjoyable experience than it is over at the Madjeski.
