Ryn A goal every OTHER game would be pushing it to be honest, there's not a lot of 20 goal strikers at this level.

We certainly can't aeeord to buy one: £3 million plus and £1 million a year wagesis out of our league. We just have to wait and see if one develops. At the moment. wemust be happy with Long's all round game and Church doesn't deserve to fall down the pecking order.

Church doesn't have far to go really, being 3rd best out of 3.

Championship is Rubbish, not good enough for Harte

by FiNeRaIn » 05 Oct 2010 18:08

What a slick passing, solid goal scoring left back. Currently top of the scoring charts for left backs in the division.

Needs to move to a prem club to find his level

Ten thousand years old, hasn't been all that good for a number of years, was always defensively suspect and slow to begin with, smacks of desperation and is simply put relegation material.

Gordons Cumming Can I just say that Jimmy Quinn was 34 when he signed for Reading.

HTH

I don't think anyone would complain if we had signed a 34 year old striker right now.
Problen is Ian Harte has been a non-entity for about 7 seasons... and has been too slow to play left back for a lesser team than us.
So why sign him?

BUMP!!

Ideal Ok, so it is your position that the 7-8 years before that, which he spent doing little of anything, being free transfered from this club to that club, makes him a great pro?
If so, then you are deluded.

Ideal Also, do you think it's perhaps a bit early to claim your massive victory....

Given what you said at the time, it's probably late.

To make your ill informed assessment of Harte's prospects look totally ridiculous all the player had to do was have a few ok games at left back.

As it is, for 50k we've got someone who has more than played his part in turning a dodgy defence into one of the better ones in the division, as we've risen up the table to within a whisker of the play off places. Along the way, he's scored 2 valuable goals and remains more than capable of playing in at least 2 positions.

From a Carlisle point of view it's starting to look more like a case of daylight robbery :P .

Why some of you set yourselves up in this way time and time again simply beggars belief.

Woodcote Royal makes a very good point.

It is difficult to "prove" Harte's benefit to Reading altho' we can show improvements
in goal difference, less goals conceded, clean-sheets and Harte's goals.

The argument against is stuff like, "Nah, it's because Williams is not playing..." (etc)

HOWEVER we can look at Reading "Before Harte" and "With Harte"

and ALSO look at Carlisle "With Harte" and "Without Harte"

at least nobody can blame Williams for CARLISLE's results

it's totally obvious that Harte's leaving to join Reading has BOTH benefited Reading AND cost Carlisle.

But the biggest variable is the opposition, which changes on a match-by-match basis (obvioulsy) - and surely the number of matches played this season both before and after Harte is much to small to give any statistical validity.

P4 W1 D2 L1 5 5 GD = 0 1.25 points per game = 57 point season Reading W/O Harte
P6 W3 D2 L1 9 4 GD = 5 1.83 points per game = 84 point season Reading with Harte

P5 W2 D3 L0 8 3 GD = 5 1.80 points per game = 83 point season Carlisle with Harte
P5 W2 D1 L2 5 3 GD = 2 1.40 points per game = 64 Point season Carlisle W/O Harte

Now look at Harte's 11 League Games this season versus his two clubs playing without him.

P11 W5 D5 L1 17 7 with Harte 1.82 points per game = 84 point season
P09 W3 D3 L3 10 8 W/O Harte 1.33 points per game = 61 point season

The common-factor is HARTE.

Harte has scored 4 times in those 11 games and kept 5 clean sheets in those 11 games.

Whether you look at Reading "with and without Harte" or Carlisle "with or without Harte" the results are close to identical
and when you combine all those games (11 with Harte v 9 without Harte) the Harte-effect is utterly clear.
