Well Chopra was 1 in 2 last season as well as Wittingham.

1 in 2 is a pretty good yardstick for having a good return though, I wouldn't really argue with that snowball. I would argue that Long, or any of our forwards, are a 1 in 2 forward. You can't say you should only measure it on goals per starts when the player in question has made more sub appearances than starts!

There's a much simpler way to consider how rare one goal in two games is.

How many Premiership strikers last season scored 19+ goals last season?

How many Championship strikers scored 23+ league goals last season?

Of course I did, you said that 1 in 2 starts was 'top-top-class'.

As to your questions above, how many Premiership or Championship strikers made 38 or 46 starts last season?

And finally, I can't believe that Shane fcuking Long has played 162 times for Reading; 35 (and counting) more than Cureton.

Cureton had Nicky Forster as competition for his place whereas Long has Simon "Flaming" Church.

I think you will find Churchy's scoring record at this level is on a par with Fozzy.

Long is 31 goals from 163.

He was brilliant for them. Superb retention of the ball and running into the channels. Great with his back to goal too.

Long is a good player but doesn't fully suit a 1 striker system as he works (too) hard and therefore is rarely in the box.

Those of us calling for another striker do so because we need ANOTHER OPTION.

Either someone to play with Long when we need to go 4-4-2 (i.e. being 1-0 down at home!) or to add competition and give s a different gameplan.

Rasiak was that man with a respetable record for us but we VERY bizarrely got rid of him.

It's fine in games like today's when an early penalty (thanks to good wok by Long I will add) stunned them and a sending off finished the game.... but what about when we we've been losing at home and needed something extra? Or losing at Brizzle? etc etc...

When it works it's fine. When it doesn't we need to adapt and we can't adapt if we have nothing to adapt to.

Just because we need someone else it doesn't mean Long is a bad player.

Noel Hunt's tally also includes his Scottish days when he was playing as a winger, Snowball in manipulating stats to suit his agenda non-shocker

On top of that the others you've listed obviously include goals and games played at different levels and in some case different countries.

Not having a go, but I'm a bit lost as to what the point you're trying to make is, apologies if it's obviously stated (it is very early in the morning ) but are you trying to argue that our strikers goal ratios are acceptable or to be expected at this level?

YOU are mixing appearances and starts, and I'm responding

To get all Snowball on your asses for a sec...

Long: 79 (83) apps, 30 goals. 1 goal every 5.4 appearances, and 1 goal every 2.6 starts.
Church: 33 (23) apps, 13 goals, 1 goal every 4.3 appearances, and 1 goal every 2.5 starts.
Hunt: 36 (23) apps, 15 goals, 1 goal every 3.9 appearances, and 1 goal every 2.4 starts.

To get starts and separate sub appearances for a whole career would be nightmare work

and anyway, minutes on the pitch is better. Hunt, for example has hardly every played 90 minutes for Reading

He used to do about 60-65



How many Championship strikers have scored 1 goal every 2 starts? That's my point. 1 in 3 is not half-bad.
