Alan Sedunary's excellent "Little Book of Reading FC" reveals a few more comebacks earlier than 1984:

8/12/1982 H v Watford Football League Trophy 3-1 down with four mins to go. Won 5-3 in extra time (Watford finished 2nd in First Division, we were relegated to D4!)

29/8/1953 H v Coventry 3-0 down after 20 mins, won 4-3. On same day the A team were three goals down v East Cowes and won 7-4

But the winner is.....

6/1/1940 A v Southampton 5-1 down after 40 mins, won 6-5.

Thanks for pointing these out Alan!

Victor Meldrew strap,
What about my Brighton game in 1963?

Another of Alan Sedunary's great works (Heaven on Earth), page 101, notes we took the lead 4 times v Brighton in that 4-5 defeat, but still ended up losing. Apparently, this was the first game we played after the big freeze of winter 1962-63, when 9 consecutive games were postponed due to snow. Sadly for us Brighton had been able to carry on playing hteir home games at the old Goldsone Ground during this period, so were relatively match fit, compared to our lot! Hence we ran out of steam.

I was 5 at the time so cannot remember the game. Although I do remember that winter. I sat down in the playground at my first school (The Laurels) and remember looking up to see a wall of snow all around me. It was bloody deep! Wonder why the schol was still open?? Nowadays, we get a couple of inches and half a town is shut down.

Thanks for that strap-no wonder I felt so p***** off after the game if it was the first that we played after the long break.
IIRC it is the only game I have ever left before the final whistle when their 5th went in.

Victor Meldrew BTW Floyd and Mags there's no hope for you two if you can't remember a game from about 4 years ago-I thought it was just we oldies that had poor short term memory.

I'm positive I remember away to Hartlepool in 93/94 when we were 2 down at half-time, then a second half Quinn and Lovell inspired comeback let us win 3-2

Just taking it one day at a time at the moment - every extra minute feels blessed.
