I don't think Alonso really wanted to leave, he was just eased out the door by Benitez for some reason. Can't understand why, but it was quite some time in the making, from before he tried so hard to sign Barry a couple of years ago.

Rafa definitely wasted a lot of money on below par players though.

Ideal Ngog - this guy makes Shane Long look like Juergen Klinsmann.

I'm not sticking up for Liverpool this season, it's totally LOLable, but I have to haul you up here, Ngog has 7 in his last 12 games for LFC, Shane Long 7 in his last 27 for RFC

Let us not forget that he plays in the same team as Gerrard and Torres, while Shane Long has teammates like Gunnarsson and Pearce to create chances for him, and has to play the lone striker role - so is tightly marked.

Since when did any team rely on a defensive midfielder and centre back to create chances? I love the way you pick out liverpools best two players and our supposed worst two players to suit your argument. Why not claim skrtel and lucas levia instead?

Interesting (to sad people like me) that Di Matteo (currently next to infallible) was interested in taking Ngog to West Brom. Perhaps he'd already been turned down by Shane.

Ideal
There's not a single player in that Liverpool team that would not walk into our side.
There's no doubting that Liverpool should be totally dominating teams like "Rabotnicki" and Northampton. RFC on the other hand struggle at the hands of mighty Swansea.
So whatever your point was, it's meaningless. Clearly Shane Long has a harder job.

You really don't know much about football do you? Ngog players against defenders form man utd, man city, arsenal, totenhem, villa, etc

Whilst we play QPR, Swansea, Norwich, Cardiff, etc Who do you think has the better quality defenders? If both players were transfer listed tomorrow, Ngog would be the one subject to the higher quality enquiries, I'll tell you that much.

I'd argue that our defence is better than that of LOLiverpooLOLs.

&Gerrard would certainly walk into Urz first 11.

Absolutely and I notice that they are only 3 points behind Spurs who are supposed to be having a good season.

Gerrard gets them out of jail on his own. Ngog, Pouslon, and Meireless were poor.

Still it's good to see a ref lol at the keeper feining injury at Gerrards first goal.

Trying to claim Gerrard had kicked the ball out of his hands.

Kudos to the ref as well for booking the other Napoli player for waving the imaginary yellow card at him...spot on. Although he did miss the near-legbreaker challenge on Ngog that should have earnt two red cards, it was that bad.

The trouble is that Liverpool fans are a bit blase about European competitions whereas for lesser clubs like Chelsea it is still very much a novelty.
BTW wasn't England's best player once again fantastic when it matters-3 goals in half a game against one of the better defences in Europe.
Stevie G-a star who deserves all the money that he gets paid and still one of the most modest of players.
