Focher here is my analysis of the goal which i hope makes things a bit clearer

Am I being a bit thick or is the whole of the ball have to be over the line, not just the area in which the ball has contract with the ground?

If that's the case then it isn't a goal.

I thought we played very well throughout the game, to have a handful of clearcut chances against a team 2nd in the league was an achievement in iteself. It should have been 2-0 at half time and that for me was the crucial point in the game (church miss).

Mills and Kish were Outstanding. Thought Harte was shit again, yes he can take freekicks and pens but his positioning for defending especially considering how quick he is (not very) is shocking, would take armstrong in at left back and bank on howard being able to take over free kick duty.

Thought it was no where over the line and i guess the question is At the time, can the lino be 100% sure the ball crossed the line completely? Think the answer to that is NO but sure he is the only one who can answer that

Felt like a loss walking out the ground yesterday but looking back now it was a good point and am sure if we play like that and take more of our chances starting saturday not many teams will be taking points off us.

I am wondering why someone put the picture of the ball in the air up?

Oh well I like the childish drawing all over it.

Glad to see your children know the different parts of the goal area.

Maybe for their next homework assignment they can find a picture of the ball crossing the line.

Quite clearly not a goal. The whole of the ball needs to be over the whole of the line, which it is not. If it had bounced up from over the line it would have hit the back of the inside of the post and gone into the goal. As it happens it must have hit marginally at towards the front of the inside if the post to have bounced back out.

In or out? Irrelevant.
I walked away feeling that two points had been frittered away.
We played high up the pitch for nearly an hour, smashing their play up, (special mentions to Kish, Karacan, and Howard) and made Cardiff look distinctly average.
We created numerous chances, and should have been out of sight long before they came back at us.
There's an old cliche that says that when you're on top, you have to make it count, and we didn't because we don't have a genuine finisher.

Didn't it hit the crossbar, then post and then bounce? So spin on the ball could have bounced it back out from the goal.

Regardless of the was it/wasn't it, I thought it was a pretty decent performance.

Thought Church played really well in the first half and would have scored had it not been for a fantastic save from Heaton. Noel looked fcuked by the end, obviously short on match fitnees. Jem and Howard both had good games, and Mills had a decent game other than one cross that he decided to duck rather than head away. Great block from Griff when it looked like Cardiff were gonna score, and Harte had a bit of a shitter. As soon as people started booing Bothroyd I knew he was gonna score. Chopra was shit.

Hopefully will see the same side against Norwich, if so we'll almost definitely put six past them.

For the first hour we outplayed Cardiff but it was done by continual chasing down, racing from player to player to harry everyone with the ball and the problem with that is that no matter how fit you are its completely knackering. You can't keep it up for 90 minutes. Noel was substituted and clearly tiring and the number of tired passes increased as the game went on.

Against lesser sides you can take it a bit easier but Cardiff are big, good and strong and cost a lot more than ours.

Much improved performance by us against a team that is bascially better than us in all departments but we did a good job at stopping them. They did create a lot of very good opportunities, if not clear cut chances, and most of those came from Burke having the beating of Harte time and time again. Another poor performance from Harte for me unfortunately. Special mention to Griffin for that goal saving tackle!

Kishanishvili had a very good game, although I did think he was in danger of getting a second yellow for a while as he started to rise to Bothroyds spoiling tactics. He's a hell of a player Bothroyd but like so many he distracts himself from his own game by getting involved in things and diving around. Thankfully for us he did it last night.

I thought the midfield worked pretty well, apart from McAnuff having a bit of a stinker, albeit with a few good moments thrown in.

Interesting that there seems to be a lot of positivity about the formation when basically we played the same set up as pretty much every other game, just with Church and Hunt filling in two of the attacking positions. Both did pretty well, although I still don't think Church suits the position but he certainly offered more of a threat on goal than Tabb has the last couple of games.

And finally to Mr Long. For me that was his worst performance of the season. Far too much walking around and failing to get back from being offside and didn't offer as much down the channels as he has done. That would be fine if he could take the chances presented to him or create a bit more (he actually linked up pretty well with Church a couple of times to be fair to him) but if he wanted to prove the critics wrong he failed, and failed big time.

I think a draw was a fair result, and in a way we were lucky, but on the other hand we could so easily have taken all three points. If we can use this as a spring board and keep the performances up instead of pulling one out every 3 games then we might yet really challenge for the playoffs.

Win against Norwich on Saturday and this was a great results. Lose and it's just another couple of points we've thrown away through poor finishing and a lack of true quality.

Ian Royal I think that photo shows it's close enough that you can hardly blame the officials whichever way they call it.

What is this "close enough"? If it's in doubt, it's not a goal. The lino has to be sure.

.

No he doesn't. He has to give what he thinks is right. This "he has to be 100% sure" nonsense is just classic Andy Townsend style "they should ref the game to the rules I've made up" pundit bollocks.

with the pace of the game its impossible for the ref or lino to be 100% sure on pretty much anything, thats football. There is nothing in the rules to state 100% sure bollox, as the Rev says i think we are watching too much Andy Gray and the cunt Townsend, who i may add has no champions league experience whatsoever but claims to be Mr Billy Big Bollocks when commentating on it.

A few people have mentioned Harte getting done for the Olajuwon chance that Griffin stopped with the last-ditch tackle.

For me that all came about because Jobi totally bottled a 50/50 over on the right, leading to a breakaway with men up in numbers.

It was funny seeing Howard getting bounced by Olifinjana's(sp?) 3ft long n0b. I'm sure he did a tackle with it at one point aswell.

funny how people see thing different- thought he had a very good game, looked pretty sharp to me, and worked very hard.
just the one chance missed for the chip, which was inches away, but granted should have been buried.
think he looked much more comfortable in a two, and had a decent game

Agreed, bar the missed Lob Long had an excellent game, but tired towards the end.

He didnt really play as a 2 though did he? More or less the same formation with Church for Tabb, i just think we looked a lot better all round with a striker playing in the hole.

Agree with all of this and most of the posting.

Disagree with this. Thought Long had a decent game.
Hoop Blah Far too much walking around and failing to get back from being offside.

Agree with this. Seemed to spend a lot of time looking at his arm or wrist, which I assume he injured, when he should have been getting back onside first. With a black eye and a damaged hand he looked like a boxer.

^^^ This. Criminal bottle-job attempt from Jobi.
Noticed him do that 2 or 3 times in the game

The difference in development between Karacan and Church is quite staggering, both came from the same crop but Karacan is now streets ahead. Karacan was different gravy last night, and a special mention to Howard, who i thought worked his nuts off and never shirked a challenge.

Interesting that, I think Church is starting to develop into a really useful striker. Should have buried that chance, but did lots of good stuff in an unfamiliar position, including a cracking ball in for the goal.
