Snowball Long has also laid on gilt-edged chances missed by others, Church and McAnuff and Howard

They won't outweigh the gilt-edged chances provided by others that he has missed though will it?

Snowball
Wycombe Royal I was using the officials undoctored stats. Sometimes you use them other times you manipulate them and adjust them. I suggest you send an email to the club and ask them to correct it.

I suggest YOU do.

Why would I want to? I don't need stats to form an opinion so they make no difference to me.

Are you saying that this season, Long has been gifted great chances by others and then missed them?

Gonna be a short list.

You've done it now. Prepare for a rant defining 'gilt-edged', praising Long's ability to chest the ball down, and using CAPITALS AND BOLD.

Which game was it that Long and Church, and Hunt I think, all seemed to be having a competition to see who could miss the easier head from 6 yards out?

Admittedly he doesn't get too many gilt edged chances because he isn't the type of striker that gets in to the right positions to get many chances.

He missed two GREAT chance against Norwich. One set up by Howard early in the match and the other from Harte's long ball.

He went through twice against Norwich, and he was also put through against Burnley.

And those are just off the top of my head.

I think 99.9% of people would say that lob he missed against Cardiff was a gilt edged chance.

I'll let you guess who the 0.1% who'll say it isn't is.

How many has Long got off the top of his head, and does it compare well to Wycombes head???

In fairness to Long, I would consider him to have two assists - on the basis of the last pass or significant touch on the ball prior to the scorer. That's what I've always understood an assist to be, but I'm happy to be corrected.

Including those I have Long involved in a significant fashion in 7 of our goals. I am including winning a penalty in that, so there are 3 that are double counted with his penalties. Take away winning penalties (where I genuinely don't think there was a high probability of us scoring without the penalty being awarded) And that's three goals he's had a significant role in + his one goal from open play.

As a comparison with our other strikers. I have Church and Hunt both down with significant roles in three goals each. I'm not counting actually scoring the goal in this by the way.

Where a scorer has earlier played a significant role in the move I have included that in my figures.

I have Howard down as the most involved in our goals, being a part of eight. Three of which are from set pieces he's delivered.

I've only got Howard down as 4 assists, can anyone help me with the one I'm missing? Second vs Leicester. 3rd vs Palace. vs M'boro, 4th vs Burnley.

spaffed a chance massively wide against Pompey when going through.
Missed two relatively easy headers against Swansea.

That's six with no research.

Sorry, Brizzle. Forgot James had transferred there.

Just a transcription error spackball. No real need for the caps lock, bold or underlined was there?

An interesting perspective

This is from NORWICH.

They don't seem to think Longy s'bad...

90+5
Gill is so close to heading into the back of his own net after brilliant work from Long!

88

McAnuff gets down the right hand side, crosses, it takes a deflection and goes over Ruddy! Long is there but he can't get his effort on target, and it's blocked anyway... it falls to Karacan...! Over!

86

Shane Long gets down the right and tries to drive a cross towards Simon Church but can only pick out Ruddy who takes the ball well.

77

McAnuff cuts inside from the left and fires in an effort which Ruddy spills and Ward clears behind for a corner with Long close to pouncing.

61

That penalty, was quite soft. Lappin didn't look to have made any contact with Shane Long there. Paul Lambert will be furious with the performance of this young referee tonight.

Shane Long to take the penalty... And he scores! 3-3! Ruddy went the right way, but had no chance! Reading back on equal terms!

45+2

Reading playing the ball about nicely now against the 10 men of Norwich. Long and Karacan getting the ball into the area, but both times it's cleared desperately.

40

Wonderful effort from Long! He looks to run at the Norwich defence, and arrows a strike from 25-yards which swerves in the air and Ruddy just manages to tip over the cross bar.

20

McAnuff gets a chance to run at Lappin, he commits two defenders before slipping a ball through to Church who whips a cross. which Long does really well to get a head to, but has no chance of directing his effort goalwards.

8

Lovely move, and really should have been finished off by Shane Long! Karacan chips through a lovely ball for the striker, and with just the keeper to beat, Long volleys straight at Ruddy.
