For me Long and Hunt are a perfect partnership because we can switch in and out of 442, 451, 4411 with the same players.

I have never decided whether you are either argumentative or downright antagonistic Snowball, but every now and again up pops a really good observation like this one. I take it from the above that you are a fan of Dutch football.

I like heavy-duty, fact (not opinion) based argument and teach my students to NOT agree
because knowledge is in the sparks of clashing swords.

the antagonistic bit comes from the bombs thrown my way and me reacting. Check any thread to see how it goes.

But as I say, Hunt can play in any 3 of those situations. Expect Long-Hunt to be the front men until injury or suspension, IMO

Platypuss Set up our goal, but gave their striker a virtual free header for the equaliser.

I seem to remember he ran ten yards.

Do we man-mark or zonal-mark, because a runner who jumps will always "do" a standing jumper if he gets his timing right.

But let us remember, lest we forget, sides conceded goals, and a lot are a darned sight worse errors than that one

I'm a professional writer with 400 publications including five novels and a collection of prize-winning short stories. LESS is totally fine by me.

The less-fewer disntinction is anal.

Raw nerve? :o

Not even a warm nerve. There are a few of these ANCIENT differences that truly DO NOT MATTER and I go out of my way to prove it regularly. I even had sat v sitting in the opening to one of my novels. Like the differences between assume and presume. Who gives a flying oxf*rd? Not me.

You could always ask of course

All these shooting stats tie in quite nicely with the title of the book you had published in 2008.........

My first five are out of print (copies available from the author)

My sixth, I think sold out. There's supposed to be a reprint.

All my books are still available in Mandarin.

You can't lose friends until they ARE your friends.

Hoop Blah
brendywendy there are taller, and better headers of the ball, and theyre already part of the back 4. so imo they should probably be in charge of marking the strikers at corners.pretty simple and self explanatory
it was just a passing comment and im not sure deserves this much analysis

You're right, it doesn't need much analysis, you should be able to realise the error of you ways without so much prodding!!!

Long picking up a player that is (according to the official sites) the same height as him and certainly not their biggest threat in the air seems perfectly reasonable to me. Mills, Pearce and Harte would've had their own men to mark and would also have been called out for getting easily beaten in the air to allow them to score, so not sure where the issue is with Long getting the same treatment.

i dint have a chuffing issue! would just marginally prefer my CBs to mark strikers, and my strikers maybe mark someone less likely to bulldozer past me to score is all.
its no biggy

Surely you want your best headers of the ball to mark your opponents best headers of the ball, whatever their positions on the pitch? As Troy Deeney is only 5'9" and Shane Long is 5'8" they weren't exactly a mismatch. Deeney got goalside of Long and Long never receovered leaving the guy with a free header.

On a brighter note, comparing last season with this.

After 18 Games

11 Reading 18 4 3 2 17 11 2 4 3 11 11 +06 25 2010-11

21 Reading 18 1 4 4 05 10 3 1 5 13 18 -10 17 2009-10

8 Points better off with a 16-goal better GD

Last season we missed the play-off by 7 points....
