... made the long trip into S.Wales and (immediately out again) up the A48 to:
Lydney 6-2 Headington Amateurs.
Definitely rugby territory - the Lydney RFC ground dwarfs the football club next door - and there were comfortably more watching the 'funny-shaped balls' version.
My youngest brought his special 'jinx' along with him - 2nd time in a row he's seen the top of the league and hitherto unbeaten club get absolutely battered.
Must make sure I get him along to the MadStad when the 'Fake Hoops' are in town! 8)
... was wet and very cold but he thoroughly enjoyed himself - glad I made the decision NOT to take him to Watford for his B'day.

Four Of Clubs This w/e's 'local' NL results

FA Trophy – Third Round Qualifying
Maidenhead United 2-4 Uxbridge

Attended this. SHOCKING result for the Mags against a team who are two divisions below that, and struggling in that division themselves. The Maidenhead goalkeeper was of a standard so poor you begin to wonder whether you could do a worse job yourself.

Four Of Clubs
Tad Showbiz Just seen the 3rd round draw. Reading Town have been drawn away to Cadbury Heath

Anyway looking at their results so far in the FA Vase and their next round tie I reckon Newport IoW might be fancying their chances of a decent run.

Ties to be played 4th December

Thanks - completely forgot about the Vase draw today.

- I've been to Cadbury Heath - in the middle of a maze of housing estates on the eastern side of Brizzle - fairly basic set up. Bit of a 'lucky' draw for RTFC - since Cadbury Heath are also STEP06.
No 'new' grounds there for me amongst the 'highlights' above ; though I could make an attempt at Three Bridges but only if Chalfont St. P. get through. I don't usually 'target' Sussex or Kent league clubs but s'pose I'll have to start sometime - have only done a couple in the Cup/Vase.

Our other 'local' sides have tough games - Wantage @ Poole and Guildford v Moneyfields - both are good standard Wessex league sides. Oddly enough the consensus amongst the Wessex fans who post on the NL Forum is that their clubs very rarely beat Western League sides, so maybe 'The Islanders' won't have an easy passage through down @ Bitton.
Co-incidentally Bitton's ground isn't that far from Cadbury Heath so you'd have a choice - though watch for cameras west of Chippenham on the A420 down towards Brizzle. :?

I'd forgotten all about S.Mids clubs  - can recommend Tring Athletic, v.nice ground though they are up against someone from their own league - so it doesn't exactly have that 'Cup Magic' feel. There are more possibles @ Stotfold, Leverstock Green (nr Hemel) and Royston - though you'd need plenty of good fortune on the M25 clockwise?

Having looked closer at the full draw there are also two more 'local' possibilities for new grounds - one Western League side Hengrove Athletic (Southern edge of Bristol nr Knowle top of the A37) should they get past St Blazey on Tue eve - host another Wessex club Bemerton (nr Salisbury)

... and another Wessex club (STEP06) Verwood Town (just W of the New Forest & N of Christchurch) play Torpoint Athletic who had a big away win in the last round.

Having noticed the FA Vase 3rd round is on the same day as a family party I am unable to follow Reading Town to Cadbury Heath. Hopefully Reading Town will do a job down there and I can rejoin their Wembley dream in the fourth round.

Terminal Boardom Burnham v Windsor & Eton - Berks & Bucks 2nd round tonight

Marlow v Slough and Aylesbury v Chesham also playing this evening to complete the second round.

The Quarter Final draw is

Aylesbury/Chesham v Beaconsfield SYCOB
Wycombe Wanderers v Burnham/Windsor
Marlow/Slough v Maidenhead
Hungerford v Didcot Town

I am still a little disappointed we don't enter a side any more making us one of the very few Clubs who don't support their County Cup competition.

Incidentally whilst I remember the two Oxfordshire based Abingdon Clubs being in the Berks and Bucks in the days when Reading did enter I cannot recall Didcot being in it. It could be because they were too far down the pyramid back then but does anyone know if they have traditionally been in the Berks and Bucks ?

The innocence of youth

Prior to the local authority boundaries being redrawn in 1974, Abingdon was indeed in Berkshire as was Uffington which is still known as the White Horse of Berkshire.

Thanks for the info TB although I did actually know Abingdon was formerly in Berkshire and I believe was once the County Town. I never understood though why the two Clubs in Abingdon are not now affiliated to the Oxfordshire F A. Despite my youth I remember Reading playing one of the Abingdon Clubs, Town I think, during our last short spell entering the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup.

I did learn from your post though that the change to Oxfordshire was a lot less far back in history than I realised and for some reason it hadn't registered with me that Didcot would have been in Berkshire at one time too although, being more southerly than Abingdon, I suppose it would have been.

I meant the main gist of my question, which I probably didn't phrase too clearly, was whether Didcot Town have always been in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup since I don't recall them being in the draw when Reading had their most recent spell of entering the Competition. It's possible they were too small a Club in those days so were in the Senior Trophy instead.

Appreciate your taking the time to respond to my post TB and apologies to everyone for taking us off topic. To rectify that here are last night's results.

Burnham 1 Windsor & Eton 0
Marlow 3 Slough Town 2 AET
Aylesbury 0 Chesham United 1

I make that only two Berkshire Clubs left in January's Quarter Finals. Maidenhead and Hungerford, with five from Bucks and one from present day Oxfordshire.

FTR, Windsor were shocking last night. Completely clueless and woeful performance highlighted by Delroy Preddie refusing to return for the second half. The verbals were outrageous and how Fiston Manuela stayed on the pitch is beyond me. One of the W&E players got taken out late. Bit of a melee followed with handbags at the ready. Fiston had the ball and proceeded to leather it straight at the offending Burnham player who was no more than 10 feet away. Ball hits him flush in the midrift and he went down like Audrey Harrison. Mayhem ensued!

Oh dear, sounds slike the pressure / uncertainty may be starting to tell.

A Burnham fan Delroy's out burst was just amazing. At one stage he started to chase up the field threatening to sort somebody out., every other word was F******, and we could not see which Burnham player had offended him. Then we realised it was his own team he was having a go at.

It was Chennells who was getting the abuse as Chenns had questioned Delroy's ability to kick the ball to a Windsor player

AthleticoSpizz ...and in the Cornish Mining division (Cornwall Combination feeder league) came:

Illogan 55 - 0 Madron (ht 24-0)

Madron enter the record books for Britains worst ever defeat.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ctory.html

There are mismatches in football and then there are humiliations and one Cornish team has been well and truly embarrassed after losing by 55 goals to nil.

In a scoreline more suited to the rugby field, Illogan RBL Reserves subjected Madron to the epic 55-0 thrashing last Saturday with one player scoring 10 goals alone.

And while the scale of the defeat was remarkable, Madron's players have become used to being humiliated on the field, having conceded 150 goals in their previous nine games and scoring only two.

The Penzance-based team arrived for Saturday's game with just seven players and Illogan seized their numerical advantage by racing into a 24-0 lead at half time.

however, I liked this bit at the end of the report.

Illogan's win, the largest in the club's history, is not, however, the biggest ever.

Madagascan side, Stade Olympique de L'Emyrne, put the ball in their own net 149 times in a 2002 league match against Adema in protest at a refereeing decision.

Stade Olympique de L'Emyrne's manager had been enraged by a refereeing decision in an earlier match which had cost his team the league and ordered his players to score multiple own goals - he was, unsurprisingly, later suspended by Madagascar's football federation for three years.

...rummage further through the layers of Anorak and you'd also find:

a) They only lost 22-0 this w/e
b) Madron were NOT bottom of the division even though their GD is minus two hundred odd
c) They were promoted last year with an equally unlikely GD of +130 odd
d) Their Reserve side two divisions below won 6-2 with a full squad on the same w/e ... and won 3-2 this w/e ! :?

You would have thought one of their players would have gone off "injured" at 50-0, therefore forfitting the game 3-0. Or at least got someone sent off.

interesting comments from the Illogan manager on your link, rabs

On the initial report that I read, he (Waters) refused the Madrons' manager (Davenport) requests for him to take off a couple of his players to give his team a bit of a breather (the scoreline at the time being something like 31-0).
