Long's Last 40 Appearances for RFC
Most recent 40 Appearances, 3,069 Minutes = 34.1 x 90 minutes for 13 goals = 1 Goal every 236 minutes
cmonurz has been highlighting (unfairly, selectively) Shane Long's lack of goals and/or lack of goals from open play. In order to ignore Shane's crucial goals in the FA Cup he has focussed on league games. I wondered how it would look if we looked at ALL Shane's games back to his first goal last season (at Liverpool where he also won the crucial penalty for the equaliser).
The first thing to notice is who has scored for Reading FC. Siggurdson and Long together account for 46% of RFC's goals. With Kebe they reach 60%. After these three only Church (6) and Harte (4) have even vaguely significant contributions.
Long was a massive contributor to the win at Liverpool, winning the equaliser and scoring the winner. He scored the only goal versus Barnsley, scored both goals in the win v Plymouth. Versus Palace he broke the deadlock by winning and scoring a penalty, then sealed the win by winning another penalty. Along with Tabb, Long played brilliantly at Burnley scoring a goal, making a goal, winning a free-kick which led to a goal. He also had the assist for Pearce's goal v Forest and Hunt's goal at Watford. He was outstanding against Aston Villa. Of his 13 goals in these 40 Appearances) NINE have been in open play. In the same time period he has appeared 2 (1) for his country, scoring a penalty (won by him) plus a goal in open play and an assist. So in 43 appearances (36.5 x 90's) he has scored 15 goals, 10 of which have been in open play. He has also won two other penalties scored by others.
