El Classico

by BR2 » 29 Nov 2010 13:28

Really looking forward to tonight's game although Leicester v Forest is a major distraction.
Of all the so-called big games and championship deciders this one, unlike so many others, usually lives up to expectations.
Real Madrid now look to have a side that could win La Liga but with Barcelona just behind it will probably be close.
Unlike in our Premier League if teams are level at the end of a season it comes down to how the two teams have done against each other rather than goal difference which is why these games are so big.
In the betting Barcelona are 11/10,a price that they won't be again at home this season even in the Champions League.

I think Barcelona will just edge it because Real Madrid's defence although improved does still have greater weaknesses than Barcelona's IMHO.
Despite the usual Sky overhype it is a game that I try not to miss and have seldom been disappointed by in the past and with quite a few of the world's best players in action there should be plenty of skill to be appreciated and very little long-ball football that we still see so much of in our game.

Perhaps you could learn something that you could use in football training?
BTW Monday seems a funny night for football training or do you play Tuesday night matches?

I remember seeing the SKY viewing figures for the Barcelona v Real Madrid match at the end of the 2008/9 season, and being quite amused that Norwich v Reading got more viewers three days later.

La Liga is just the SPL with better players. At least the EPL is becoming more competitive

In the 18 seasons since the EPL formed, just 4 teams have won it. In those same 18 seasons, 5 different teams have won La Liga. You could argue the EPL is closer to the SPL than La Liga in those terms.

Only nine different winners in the entire history of La Liga, don't know how that stacks up against the number of different English winners but I'd be surprised if anything other than the SPL provides less variety.

Anyway, hope there's a bit of Jose-inspired needle tonight, these things often suffer from over-hyping.

1-0 to Barcelona (Xavi).

Not sure if I can put up with the commentary though.
