Royal Rother To suggest we are a nation of sore losers is nonsense.

On the whole we play games with honour, we deal with our cheats, and we stand up for fair play, not just for ourselves but for our opponents. And we are humble and honest in defeat.

We compare very favourably with every other nation on the planet in this regard.

BR2 As RR said earlier the whole of Talksport seem to have received instructions to be Mr Angry today.
Last night Durham excelled himself, advocating that Arshavin should be booed on Saturday for backing the Russian bid and then accusing Russia of being the most racist country in the world.

Interesting to listen to the ex-head of the FA,Brian Barwick, who suggested that our football is not seen in the same light abroad as it is seen here,i.e. the Premier League and the money are seen as brash and as I thought we are perceived as arrogant.

Rather than hurl criticism of FIFA surely we should be looking at our bid presentation-it looks as though we rested on our laurels because our technical bid was considered the best.
The other point is that we sent 3 amateur diplomats in Beckham,William and Cameron to clinch votes-their inexperience showed when they started congratulating themselves prematurely (How arrogant)on sealing those votes.
How could they be so wrong when the only bloke voting for us featured on the Panorama programme-the only one apart from our own board member?

One question-did we query the corrupt process of The Olympic committee members when we got 2012?
England in 2010-bad losers at most things we do.
Thank goodness today for the England/South African cricket team otherwise the suicide rate in the country could have reached epidemic proportions because we did what we do in the Eurovision Song contest and came a very poor last in a bid for a football competition.
Still,an English person is likely to win X-factor and I'm a Celebrity beating off all foreign opposition so this weekend we can rejoice that England has won two competitions and amazingly the participants didn't need any help from the 3 stooges (Beckham,William and Dave) otherwise they might have lost.

Poor form to roll up so much complete nonsense into one mega-post. You could've broken it down into at least half a dozen smaller offerings, each as equally rubbish.

Would you care to point out the areas that are rubbish?
I thought a smart arse like you would be able to take in the content of more than one paragraph.
And they say education standards aren't falling.

Perhaps every other nation in the world compares favourably with us.
I think RRs "On the whole" should possibly read "Now and again" just like every other nation on the planet.
The sporting world is full of cheats and liars and mirrors society so why do people think sport is any different?

What do the IOC and the selection process for the Olympics have to do with FIFA and the completely separate selection process for the world cup?

If you care to glance through the treasure trove of US diplomatic cables regarding the Russia you might gain an insight into the standard operating procedures employed by the "mafia state".

Given how few votes the England, Australia and the USA bids received between them I don't think it surprising people are questioning how Qatar and Russia with their vast footballing heritages managed to secure so many votes in the final weeks.

How many other countries take such a tough line on simulation? Behaviour towards officials? Tough Tackling? Anti Racism? Anti Homophobia?

Fifa are a joke and the fat blimp that runs it should go now.

I am seething.......how can the best report, the best presentation, etc not win...it doesnt make sense!!

I am all for their view to get other countries to host it and with that view then russia should win

However, if thats so what is the point in going through this process for 2018 then as England, Holland/Belgium, Spain/Portugal had no hope of winning no matter how hard they tried!!

2022 was a joke too, aussies should have won, WC in Qatar what a joke!

Our press are a joke, but FIFA should be objective and its scandalous to even suggest that is to blame..if so the voters should resign

The whole process is corrupt and why only 22 members are allowed to vote, doesnt this go against the ethos that FIFA is puportedly trying to promote, football is for everyone/world

Cant stand blatter, just acts like a fool, is slow fat old fart

2 votes!! wtf, 1 from our own organisation...apparently people promised votes....so they are liars and dishonourable people then and not fit to be decision makers...investigation please

So, the promise that other countries that havent hosted the WC before will get it means that I will be dead before it comes here (im only 42 thanks blatter you fat loser)

as an aside, i shall NEVER watch panaroma again nor will i buy a newspaper again as i am livid with the out of control press in this country

RANT OVER

We would have probably hosted the World Cup finals a fair few years ago had it not been for Liverpool getting English sides banned from Europe.

England doesn't take a tough line on simulation at all. Your head is stuck in the 80's if you think England is still the country where footballers are noble and don't throw themselves to the floor.

Italian FA suspends some cheats by watching video footage afterwards

LoyalRoyalFan Three videos that showcase why England should have had the World Cup.

spot on. I would say the heady combination of having a National anthem, teams playing in the Champions League and a history of playing football makes us unique. We are entitled to the World Cup.

I have no doubt there was "politics" in the final decision, probably corruption too, but there is no way I would show any of my foreign ( ) colleagues what RR has posted here.
If that is not arrogance.................

To most people, the down side of English football is hooliganism (Heysel etc), a phenomenon now successfully exported to most of the rest of the world, and multiple death threats to that Swedish referee (Anders Frisk?) after we were knocked out of Euro 2004 iirc.

We can thank the timely intervention of Birmingham City fans as well then.
