winchester_royal Sky Sports now reporting we've made a bid.

He was spotted at the stadium Wednesday, yet McDermott has denied we're interested. Something doesn't add up.

at the end of the day regardless of what anyone else says we do.need another striker. we can not go the rest of the season with just three strikers espically with church and hut being two of thoses strik.ers

Is he good enough for the Championship or even the Premier if we're lucky?

Probably not.

Who else is that is either a) proven, b) cheap and c) willing to come to RFC? The pool is shallow...

Well he's too good for the third division so he's worth a punt at this level certainly. His record speaks for itself.

Gut instinct, reading between the lines and all that, I can't help thinking this deal is in the bag.

Funny thing is, Austin seems to be someone that leads the line (correct me if I'm wrong) and that is exactly what Long does. So will it be Long and Austin up front? In which case I think Long will have to start playing a free-er role which he will not be used to. Either that or Long continues to play the target man role and Austin is told to do what he likes and hope to get on the end of a few things!

Maybe I'm just too old fashioned in my big man/little man way of thinking.

PP, I think they are quite different. SL is exceptional at working the channels i.e getting CB's in wide positions and then skinning them. Doyle was exceptional at that also and it's one of the reasons that they aren't as prolific as someone like CA i.e they are providers as well as goalscorers
CA is a predator first and foremost. His movement in the final third and his finishing remind me very much of Kevin Phillips. He has an uncanny knack of finding space in the box (see 2nd goal at Charlton the other night) and then taking his chances. He is also very young so has both physical and technical improvement still to come.I think the two together would be one hell of a handful in the Championship.
Even with a JM business hat on I'd see him as a great investment at anywhere up to 1.5m. If I could buy a share in him with an eye on incremental future value then I would personally do so.
