Team for West Brom

by andrew1957 » 06 Jan 2011 18:42

We are coming to the decision again. Do we play the league team or a different team in the cup.

Last year we played the best team but this year I think there is a case for playing other players.
I would go for -

Andersen (he has made it clear he wants a chance to prove himself - let's give it to him)
Cummings (deserves another go)
Ingi (if back to fitness)
Khiz (needs games in case needed)
Armstrong
Howard & Tabb (our first choice CM pairing of last season and both need games)
Antonio & RK (both deserve a start)
Long (think we need to play him to keep his hot streak going)
Church

This is not a reserve team as such as many of the players were first choice at some point in the last year or two.

Full strength with a couple of changes. The cup means a lot to McDermott so I'm hoping he'll go for it.

Andersen (Would like to see him play)
Griffin
Khiz
Pearce
Armstrong (needs to be given a chance)
Kebe (just because he holds the record for the fastest ever FA cup goal :D )
Leigertwood
Tabb
Antonio (Want to see more of him)
Long
Hunt

I'd definitely use it as an opportunity to spread some games around, but I wouldn't want to make too many significant changes. Tempted to suggest a return to 4-2-3-1, but I'd be interested to see something like this:

Andersen
Cummings, Pearce, Khizanishvili, Armstrong
McAnuff, Howard, Karacan, Antonio
Long, Church

That's a lot of changes, but Khiz, Church, Howard & Armstrong are different but arguably the equal of Mills, Leigterwood, Hunt & Harte, at least IMO.

Be stupid to drop Long whilst he's actually in form, especially given the potential damage to his fragile confidence.

Looking forward to this more than any home game so far this season.

We will put out a strong side, but i think we will see a few changes where can afford to after such a busy schedule.

Khiz, Armstrong, Tabb, Church etc can all come in without really weakening the side too much.

Hope the fans show up in numbers, it will be a good game.

Antonio needs to be brought in.

Robson Kanu is far too frustrating to watch.

WBA at their best are very good indeed, and I suspect even with 5-6 reserves they will still be a good side.

Much as it would be nice to give people a run out, I think we should go all out for a home win
and play the best side possible while allowing for any players needing a rest.

Risky to bring in a young keeper for a biggish game and also good to cup-tie our best players.

Maybe Elwood needs that hamstring rested, McDermott hinted at that

So for me

FEDERICI
Griffin-Mills-Pearce-Harte (but maybe give Armstong a run out, small risk)
Kebe-Tabb-Karacan-McAnuff
Long-Hunt

Our best side will have a reasonable chance of progressing, so p[lay that or close to it.

Im going with two baggies fans, they are not confident AT ALL, their defence is ravaged at the moment and they reckon it will be a reserve side. I hope we get a decent gate but suspect less the 12,000.

Hard to predict so i'm hoping for:

GK - Andersen
DL - Armstrong
DR - Griffin
CB - Khizanishvili
CB - Pearce
ML - Robson-Kanu
MR - Antonio
CM - Howard
CM - Tabb
ST - Church
ST - Hunt

I don't think there will be wholesale changes although I haven't seen yet whether Colin will allow Leigertwood to be cup tied especially now that Ipswich are in for him. I am assuming Steve Kean will do his old Club a favour and allow Zurab to play if selected.

Don't think McDermott would put Cummings in against his nemesis Jerome Thomas.

All in all I wouldn't be surprised to see an unchanged team depending on the Leigertwood situation but we might see Ivar and Bryn on the bench maybe.

Would like to see Taylor get 15 mins at the end, and to give Andersen a chance to show he is a realistic challenger to Fed.

Same team as Monday for me except Armstrong for Harte and would prefer Khiz in for Mills too just to give him some gametime more than anything. But given that the club has said that the fitness of Griffin, Leigertwood, and Armstrong are all being monitored, and the BBC site suggests Long may be rested with a broken foot :( if those players are unavailable then i'd pick Cummings for Griffin, Tabb for Leigertwood and obviously Church for Long.

BBC Radio Berkshire says there are doubts over Griffin and Elwood.

Bruised foot.

You can't exactly be 'rested' with a broken foot...
