weybridgewanderer Gutted at the performance.

We were not going to bring up the subject of the silence, but since you did here goes.

As expected the majority of Celtic fans behaved themselves. Unfortunately there is a sizeable core that cannot, even though one of the people that died - Nigel Pickup - was a Roman Catholic. Once again SKY muted the effects mikes so the viewing public could not hear what was going on.

The Scottish Sun It was a strange afternoon, one where the usual poison mingled in the chill air with the raw emotion of remembrance. Where Celtic had made a big show of keeping out a rabble-rousing element of their support but when the cops let others smuggle in smoke bombs and one guy even got through the turnstiles in a Pope costume.

And where the ultra-moronic found a surreal way to try and screw up a tribute to the 66 lives lost in the 1971 Ibrox Disaster.

As the stadium fell still on ref Craig Thomson's whistle, a cough came from the Celtic End. Then another. Then another and another and lots more anothers until it was as clear as the red nose on a flu-ridden reindeer's face that this was an orchestrated effort to make a point.

What that point was, we'll never know. But it seems some lame-brains just don't have the civility to shut the hell up for 60 seconds in memory of others.

As the seconds ticked painfully slowly, someone in the middle of the away support started to applaud.

To the credit of others around him, he was quickly and quietly shut up.

LOL @ clutching @ straws, bitter Rangers fans

your mobb should try observing the silence respectfully yourselves rather than chomping at the bit, straining your ears for any possible deviance in the away end

bigmike Your Right both sets of fans need to grow up .. However from what I have witnessed this season and others Celtic fans seem to get away with disgraceful behaviour and Rangers get punished.

All you need do is compare the attendences at grounds when they play the old squirm .. you can see that Fans are staying away from the games when Celtic come to town.

Fans are staying away from games all over Scotland for a variety of reasons. The football is nowhere near as good as it was, teams play each other four times a season and big name players aren't playing for the Old firm anymore. Lets face it, much like when Reading were in the Premier League casual fans go to see big name players play for the big name clubs. Would you rather go and see the likes of Larsson, Di Canio McCoist and Gazza from yesteryear or the likes of McCourt, Hooper, Miller and McCulloch now? Doesn't quite hold the same grandeur does it.

As for the Rangers fans they aren't exactly saints they live in a place where the traditional fashion accessory to your shellsuit is a knife (that is a joke before anyone gets uppity). They have been accused before of racially abusing one of there own players and the people of Manchester weren't exactly welcoming them back with open arms before their recent visit after the last time.

There are a few Rangers fans on this site who would like to paint their club as the saints to the Celtic sinners but the reality is different.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-12146316

The article reads: Packages containing bullets have been sent to Celtic manager Neil Lennon and player Niall McGinn. The packages, addressed to the two men, were posted in Northern Ireland. They were intercepted by staff who raised the alarm at the Royal Mail sorting office in Mallusk, County Antrim, on Wednesday. The mail was bound for Celtic Football Club in Glasgow. The PSNI said the items had been removed for examination.

Police were called to the sorting office after postal staff raised concerns about the two packages. A spokesman for Celtic said: "It is now a police matter and the club has no further comment to make."

Police are investigating the incident and have asked anyone with information to come forward. Neil Lennon, a former Celtic captain and Northern Ireland international, has received death threats in the past. He was forced to withdraw from Northern Ireland's game against Cyprus in 2002 after a reported death threat from a paramilitary group. In 2008, he was treated in hospital after being assaulted in Glasgow. Northern Ireland international Niall McGinn transfered from Derry City to Celtic in 2009.

Regarding the story about the bullets. If its true then its not suprising and typical of the hatred and embarrasment that is brought on to Scottish football by the ugly sisters from Glasgow however it seems that it wasnt quite timed perfectly to cover up the fact that Lennon has been banned for his behaviour...

Maybe I am being cynical here but there always seems to be some story that seems to be angled towards getting Celtic sympathy Just in time to cover up a bad news story for Celtic

from the BBC website
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/9358188.stm

"Celtic manager Neil Lennon has been handed a six-match touchline ban by the Scottish Football Association for an excessive misconduct charge."

How can he possibly appeal his behaviour? Yes the ref missed a penalty which happens to most teams its just that it happened to Celtic for a change. But thats no excuse for the aggression and anger that he was showing towards the 4th official. I say that the ban should be longer after all he is supposed to be a role model and he is. After all Lennon behaves the same way as the fans do. Next offence and there will be one he should be banned from the touchline for 6 months not 6 matches

What do you want us to say? You've been missing shortly after OF defeats for years tredder, laughable how you point this out. Rangers have two games in hand, still favorites. Celtic..even a blind squirrel gets a nut once in a while.

It's hardly surprising as he went missing for 2 years when Reading were doing well.

They have been busy helping Referees sift through all the death treats that have been sent to them by Celtic fans.
