interesting you say Godalming are 'local', I'd have thought Ashford T (M) were closer. still, not a criticism, this is a top top thread thanks to you :D

oh and what's the new Thame ground like?

Wax Jacket interesting you say Godalming are 'local', I'd have thought Ashford T (M) were closer. still, not a criticism, this is a top top thread thanks to you :D

...fair point I s'pose - I try to limit my 'local' p/review to outside the M25 but do occasionally feature Staines - cos I think there is or was the odd 'Massive' member :shock: on here - so I could just as easily include Ashford Town (Mx).

I leave H&R in too for the benefit of Tredder (though I doubt if he'll want to be reminded of their result from the Trophy today!) :?

- trouble is there are quite a few NL clubs in and around that area - Godalming, I think, is roughly the same distance away from RG1 in a straight line but from experience is actually a bit of git to drive to - got horribly lost in Guildford looking for the road to the SW. :oops:

For those interested in these sort of things there's a fair bit of puff about the new Thame Stadium and what they've built via their new clubsite :

http://www.thamefootball.co.uk/site-progress/

Seems to get rave reviews for the playing surface - I liked the ground - easy location on the Northern edge of the Town but I did think the bar was bit small for a new complex - they may have scope to expand it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
... and here's today's results:
FA Trophy 2nd Round
AFC Telford United 1 - 0 Eastwood Town
AFC Wimbledon 2 - 3 Woking
Alfreton Town 3 - 3 Cambridge United
Ashford Town (Middx) 0 - 1 Dartford
Blyth Spartans AFC 2 - 1 Altrincham
Boston United 0 - 1 Gloucester City
Chasetown 2 - 1 Grimsby Town
Darlington 4 - 1 Bath City
Dorchester Town 3 - 3 Eastbourne Borough
Droylsden 1 - 0 Ebbsfleet United
Eastleigh 3 - 3 Worcester City
Gateshead 6 - 0 Hampton & Richmond Borough
Guiseley AFC 2 - 1 Stalybridge Celtic
Luton Town 4 - 0 Uxbridge
Mansfield Town 4 - 2 Newport County
Salisbury City 1 - 0 Wrexham
CONFS
Boreham Wood 2-0 Chelmsford
ISTH1S
Bognor Regis 5-0 Fleet Town
Godalming Town 2-1 Whitstable
Leaders Met Police beaten 0-3 @ Horsham YMCA
2nd place Whitehawk lose 1-2 @ Faversham: which was where I went - The 'Shepherd Neame Stadium' was not a bad ground for STEP04, if a bit 'pre-fab'. Home side upset their higher placed visitors. Co-incidentally both clubs were promoted to this level this season.
Food was cooked to order - daughter expressed approval of what was served up. Bar was spacious enough
Things looking decidedly dodgy for Windsor & Eton at the moment.
The existing Chairman, Peter Simpson, has still, months on, not produced all the paperwork required by the Administrators to prepare complete and thorough documentation to support the CVA application, and he has not paid them either so, although they say they have enough to go to court for the CVA, they'll do nothing until he (Simpson) honours his commitment to pay their fee. Unfortunately Simpson's company, Lovegroves the Solicitors, (of whom I believe he was a Senior Partner) has just gone bust.... (not looking good is it?)
Meanwhile, Kevin Stott, the proposed new owner / Chairman (understandably) requires an indemnity from Simpson to cover him in the event that any further creditors come out of the woodwork.
If the CVA does go ahead we will suffer 10 points deduction which will take us close to the relegation zone and, although the players have shown commendable form / commitment over the last few months as all this shite rumbles on, the inevitable slashing of the playing budget (already happening) will make it tough to stay up.
If the CVA does not go through it'll be a start-again scenario at the bottom of the pile somewhere. Whether we would have a ground at that point I have no idea as it is supposedly in the terms of the Crown lease that, should the current club fold, the lease reverts back to the Crown... they might not exercise that but who knows...
A further complication in all this is that Simpson and Stott dislike each other with a vengeance; reason being that allegedly, (and I have heard this from a couple of sources but cannot verify its accuracy) when they were previous co-directors of Windsor and Eton a few years ago, Stott's company was in difficulties, and he took some "friendly" advice from Simpson - his company ended up going down the tubes and he (Stott) sued Simpson's firm for bad advice and won £1.2m!!! Perhaps hence them going down the tubes themselves just recently. Bad blood or what?! So although I have sat in on public meetings where Simpson has personally undertaken to support the CVA in any way he can, and has also undertaken to pay the Administrator's fee himself, I'm not so sure that he will do anything other than look after himself and whatever he has got left, rather honour his commitment to Stott and the club's supporters.
Oh well....
Terrible result for Maidenhead and they must be looking over their shoulders a bit now at the teams below them in the table.
FA Vase round-up:
...shame about Guildford/Bitton/Herne Bay and Cadbury H. but there are approx 11 possibles from 16, vaguely southern clubs left in for the 5th round of the Vase.
[Ties due 12th Feb - draw tomorrow I think?]
So if the tickets are readily available to neutrals (which they sometimes are) and the prices are kept low - and the FA don't decide to get the Final bounced out of Wembley to play it somewhere else - like I think they have with the PO Finals! :x - then it's a good way of watching a match at the 'new' Wembley - for those that haven't been?
Expect Whitley Bay and Gresley are bookies faves - though Spennymoor are currently above the 'Bay' in the Northern league.
Poole Town (still unbeaten in their league - not that THAT did any good for Guildford) and Dunstable are decent outfits - albeit both with really cr@p grounds!
St Neots from the United Counties Premier are similarly unbeaten in their League.
Torpoint from Cornwall (just) could be good outsiders, would will probably bring decent crowds with them.
Another strong contender, because of recent higher playing standards, would be Kings Lynn currently 3rd in the UCLP - and Leiston seem to have something about them - had a good FA Cup run too recently?
Might take in a Vase tie on the 12th if there's a 'new' one in range! 8)
Skybet pretty much in agreement with you Four of Clubs although they have Spennymoor just as favourites and Gresley are a decent price.
Spennymoor 2/1
St Neots 3/1
Whitley Bay 9/2
Kings Lynn 8/1
Poole 12/1
Gresley 14/1
Odds go as far as 66/1 for Holbrook Sports.
Breaking News....
Didcot Town statement Stuart Peace resigned as manager earlier today after six and a half years in charge.
During that time the football club has enjoyed easily it's most successful spell: liftng the FA Vase, Hellenic League Cup and Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy in 2005; the Hellenic League title for the first time in over 50 years and League Cup in 2006; and of course winning the Southern League South & West Division play-off final in 2009.
Retaining our Premier Division status last season was no mean achievement either but clearly recent results were not ideal and Stuart informed the chairman in a phone call today that he felt it was time for a change.
John Bailey:"It's a shame but Stuart has been here nearly seven years and he feels he's taken the team as far as he can. He certainly leaves with his head held high because his record at Didcot is remarkable - he's overseen far and away the most successful period in the club's 100 year history and it's quite a legacy to leave us. On behalf of the club I would like to put on record our thanks to him for everything he's done and all his hard work."
Stuart will no doubt always polarize opinions from supporters. But what is irrefutable is his astonishing record as manager here. Starting as assistant to Pete Foley, it is highly unlikely we will ever see another period of success to match the years from 2004-2009.
I hope I'm wrong, but one day I think we'll look back at Stuart's tenure and realize we really didn't know just how good we had it.
I was reminiscing about my refereeing days tonight and thinking about some of the great non-league grounds i have officiated at.
One story that has totally passed me by is Meadow Park and Gloucester City. This was one of my regular haunts, although Gloucester fans were not always pleased to see me.
A lovely new ground has been left to ruin due to it being continually flooded. They left there in 2007 and now play out of Cirencester i believe.
This....
