Re: Where has £3.95 million gone?

So, to summarize:

04/05 -4.6m
05/06 -6.5m
06/07 +6.6m
07/08 +6.7m
08/09 +4.2m
09/10 +2.8m

All figures after transfer dealings taken into account. So on 09/10 we were up about 3m, but we were using 11m parachute money. Now, your job is to balance the budget for 10/11 without that 11m. How are you going to do it?

The club offloaded salary and sold players and came up with a budget for 10/11 that was 4m short. Then they sold Gylfi for 6m (I believe the 7m figure is euros.) Now you can balance the budget and you've got some room to play - a little room. Looks like about 2 million of room, but after you've added Harte, Zurab and Leggy to the payroll 1.5m for a player of limited experience looks like an awful lot. Then, you also need to keep an eye ahead on the budget that you'll have to balance in 11/12 and forward from there.

As for the original question.... never mind.

winchester_royal RFC - The biggest fraudsters since Enron....

I reckon WorldCom trumps Enron, and they took Arthur Anderesen with them.

And they were RFC's neighbours.

Where has the £1m gone?

by UrbieG » 10 Jan 2011 01:09

I am fed up.

I'm too poor to buy a £1m house in a desirable location which could make all the difference to my quality of life.

At the start of the summer I sold my last house for £300000. Four years ago I sold my previous home for £180000. In my twenty working years I must have earned something in the region of £6-700K. I've sold a few clapped out old cars too & numerous smaller items on Ebay.

& yet I still can't afford my dream home.

No doubt the usual self righteous bores on here will suggest I go through the micro finances of my life to date with my accountant, but the headline figures don't lie.

SO WHERE HAS THE £1M+ GONE?

I guess there are roughly three schools of thought here.
1) Those who believe the club is broadly doing the right things, trust the management and don't believe we are constantly being lied to.
2) Those who understand what is being done but honestly disagree with it and think we should gamble more.
3)Those who don't trust anyone and won't believe any figures that are given to them.

Since I am closest to 1) I see no point in debating with those in 3). I will simply be called naive, a brown nose for SJM, and those in 3) will portray themselves as brave rebels who "say it as it is". So be it.

The debate with 2) is the most interesting because, of course, they may be right. I also see no problem in keeping pressure on SJM in ensuring he knows the fans are ambitious and not happy with mid table mediocrity. What is clouding everything is people trying to work out whether the club is comparatively well off or not.

But right now I do trust McD, believe he knows exactly what he is doing and will reserve judgement until the transfer window closes.

Those in group 2 have a point and to be honest I am probably cought somewhere between there and group 1. I do feel we could be a little more adventurous in the transfer market but I can also understand why they don't want to be.

I think I am a one and a half as well. I feel that at times they do not all sing from the same song sheet.

RFC have a budget, and just because a bit extra comes in does not mean it has to be spent. Only if BM as manager thinks that the team needs strengthening then will it happen, we have a squad of players, 20 FT pros should be enough.

To be fair there are very few posts on this thread by people in category 3/

For myself I would say I am in 2/ but with the proviso that I largely AGREE with how the club has been run, but just think we need to gamble a little more now. My reason is that if we do not get promoted this season I could see around 40/50% of the current first team squad leaving in the summer. Therefore, I find it astounding that we cannot find a million here or there to strengthen the squad considering how much additional income has been generated in the last 5 years.

It is those that seem to find debate so challenging that try to paint everyone who makes a valid alternative point out to be a club hater.

Yet again you only talk about income. It is the fact that you do not appear to recognise expenditure at all that people find so tiresome.

if you think so, it must be true, cos we are obviously going to sell half our squad if we dont go up in the summer, and its clearly true that weve taken 140 million in extra income in the last 4 years, and not spent any of it. so with a track record like that id say id be a utter moron not to listen to you and believe what you say.

and mockery aside. it is only one small part of your many and various statements that i feel compelled to argue against, and that is the one that says "oh my god, £XX.XX of players have been sold. where is the £XX.XX?" without even attempting to add up the other expenditute, even in the face of fulsome statements from people who actually know, which give you all the info you require.

totally ignoring that kind of thing is the hallmark of a moron.

If a business grows and increases its turnover massively it is incumbent on that business to control its costs. If what others have posted about the accounts is true, then it would appear that RFC failed to do that. If RFC gets promoted again I very much doubt the management will make the same mistake again.

I said that up to 40-50% could end up LEAVING. Many are out of contact and contracts are unlikely to be renewed and others will want to move to a higher level. It is pointless debating with you as you seem to have trouble understanding basis English.

I also never said we made 140M PROFIT. You really are being ridiculous now.

id imagine if we went up again, wed use the blackpool wages model. where there is no massive increase. lesson learned.
at teh time though were were ambitious enough to want to keep our players, and attract new ones, by paying them half decent premiere league wages.

i guarantee we wont have 1/2(or 40%) of our squad leave in the summer, regardless.

not only didnt i say 140% profit, but youve quoted the exact bit where i experessly didnt even mention the word.
i said extra income. like you did.
