bigmike This has been dug up from about 2 years ago same old story ... nothing to come from it.

Why would a Rich Arab want to buy reading when there are so many other clubs about who are in a better postion

Sorry, what other clubs are in as good a financial position as Reading Football Club? There is no reason why any potential buyer shouldn't be interested in this club. It's nice and close to London which is appealing, stadium and plans agreed for expansion already in place, facilities, training ground, very little debt and all manageable. It's like buying a new house that is modern with very little to do when you move in. You just have to hope they take as good a care of this house as John Madejski has!

Indeed. Extraordinarily ignorant comment from bigmike.

Isn't it more about these investors wanting to buy cheap clubs that they can "do up"

It's the same principle as buying the slightly run down house, probably owned by an old person, on the cheap and turning it into a modern home.

Reading FC is already a modern home, so it costs more to buy.

Good point, though it can be hard to get rid of the smell of wee.

That is why the club will not find a buyer. There is no debt, there is no development potential and no fanbase. There are better debt ridden prospects throughout the league.

Firstly I have a feeling roadrunners first line is spot on. Looking at the broader topic there are a few reasons why it will be difficult to sell the Club. Firstly in his heart SJM doesn't really want to sell for reasons we all know so he needs an offer he can't refuse which will enable him to sort out some of the messes that his other well run businesses are in. This makes the asking price unrealistic for a Club of our size and lack of significant football history in most eyes. There is also a considerable debt owed to the Chairman of our debt free Club which will need to be repaid at some point.

That being said I agree with many of the plus points that roadrunner mentions in his final paragraph making it a decent purchase for businessmen with sensible and realistic ambitions for a Club of the size of RFC. The problem will be SJMs reluctance to let go and his asking price. Not to mention his apparent insistence that it must be an individual purchaser which pretty much narrows the field down to zero.

As if these Billionaires care about Financial position. I never mentioned finacial position but now that you have mentioned it... A club in a good financial footing with a small fanbase may not be more attractive to an investor than say someone like Portsmouth. Stadium extention plans in place... Well thats not exactly a clincher being that Reading couldnt sell the ground that they have out when in the premiership. When has the Madejski stadium ever been at capacity for football????? Extending is going to do one thing provide more empty seats.

and it is I that gets called Ignorant jeez ... Typical Hob nob any TWATS!!!!

Being closer to London thats not a good thing... That makes it easier for people in the Reading area to go an see teams like Arsenal Chelsea and even Fulham.

DOYLERSAROYALER It will never happen...he may say he wants to sell but that just gives him more column inches for his PR bandwagon....

with the recent demise of his Station Hill development plans, why would he want to sell the club and derail his PR machine? ...the only thing he'd have to hang onto then would be the Madejski Academy...and it would be unlike him to hide under a bushel...and staring at his glass cased motor cars!

Whenever hes spoken about selling the club , he's always caveated it with certain considerations/requirements, which gives him a get out to decline any offer made anyway....no doubt there have already been offers but i really dont think hes interested

..face up to it chaps....he's here for the long haul (maybe another 20!) !

cant think of much that would be better for this club tbf

Indeed, and the remaining seats may have been unsaleable due to safety reasons anyhow.

Ok so since the Stadium was built it has been a sell out once. I am sure thats reason enough for new owners to extend the stadium.. maybe 1 game in the next 20 years will get over 25000.

if you take those criteria the top 4 in th eprem probably dont sell out either.

id take it as any game where only single seats are left available.
