We seem to have a good goal keeping academy at least, good luck to the lad

It's a shame Deano isn't going, he's a quality goalie, and good mate of mine.

Fellow Reading keeper Dean Santangelo is also on standby for the event.

It's no bad thing, and I agree we have a decent record of producing good young keepers, but it doesn't say how many keepers are going to this keeper training.

I get the impression it's probably quite a few so although it's no doubt a positive thing, being invited as one of the top 10 or 20 or 30 English keepers in your age group(s) isn't quite the same as being a top prospect (Sean Allaway anyone?).

Not a lot!

He was playing for Staines Town not too long ago (FA Cup exposure a couple of seasons ago) and I heard a rumour he was going to play for Reading Town this season. I think he might still be at Staines though.

If it's anything like the FA's girls academy/school of excellence set up (I suspect it is as the girls set up and practices seem to mirror the boys in other areas) then you are right.

My daughter is a keeper and was hoping to go on one of these training camps but unfortunately was injured at the time. My understanding is that quite a few keepers are invited to attend. Whilst it is a great honour and recognition that you are amongst the best young and up coming keepers in the FA academies, there is still a long way to go and a lot of competition to overcome before you become a member of the England squad proper.
