The former Hereford United marksman Dixie McNeil is looking to the Bulls striker Mathieu Manset to make a name for himself in English football.

Manset, 21, has come to the fore for Hereford in recent weeks grabbing five goals in his last five appearances.

The powerfully built Frenchman has a long way to go to emulate McNeil who scored 88 goals in 141 games for Hereford back in the mid 1970s.

However, McNeil has been impressed by the Metz born striker.

Speaking exclusively to Vital Hereford McNeil beamed: 'He brings a smile to your face, that's for sure. He's different.

'Perhaps it's because he's left footed, and dare I say it I was left footed and see some similarities, but I like him.

'If he continues to get goals he'll be a real star.'

Due to his bustling style of play and upper body strength the forward, nicknamed 'The Beast' by Bulls fans, appears to be thriving in league football at present.

But McNeil insists the former Le Havre player must maintain his commitment and positive approach if he is to succeed in the long term.

'He's positive. He gets to the edge of the box and seems to say to himself 'right I'm going to take the full-back or centre-half on,' he added.

'Players that do that are few and far between, and if he can add goals on a regular basis he'll do well for the football club.'
