Club Considering Manset Offers
By Bobo
Bulls News understands that the Bulls have received two six figure bids for Mathieu Manset.
A flock of scouts were at today's game including several top flight clubs, and further offers are expected after Manset's goalscoring performance this afternoon.
Neither of the received bids are believed to meet the club's valuation, but one of them does offer to loan the 21 year old back to Edgar Street for the remainder of the season - a clause that the club are keen on.

He's a beast :o . 11 in 24 this season, good return. Maybe he was just adjusting to England last year. Definitely potential here. A definite plan B for us in the short term and hopefully much more in the future.

pace, power, skills, finish with both feet, good in the air, 21 it's a no brainer.

I might break my exile to watch the tank, I walked away from Hereford on New Years day thinking if Torquay sell Benyon I'd love it if they could sign Manset.....yeah right, 15 days later CHampionsip clubs are looking at him and probably one will take him. Scouting 20.

Crowthorne & Sandhurst Times says...

Morrison incoming and Manset on the Reading FC radar
By Jonny Fordham
January 16, 2011

Reading have raided local rivals Swindon Town for their talented young centre-back Sean Morrison.

Royals boss Brian McDermott confirmed to the Post that a deal for the 20-year-old should be completed early this week.

“Hopefully that one is all done,” said McDermott whose side thrashed Doncaster Rovers 3-0 at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday.
“We’re trying to find young and hungry players that want to play for us and he fits that criteria.”

Swindon boss Danny Wilson added: "We can't look back and cry over spilt milk (concerning Morrison ).
“Once the vultures started to circle there wasn't a lot more we could do to keep him here."

As also revealed in Friday’s getreading, McDermott is now looking to bring in another striker with Hereford’s Mathieu Manset top of his list.

Head scout Steve Shorey saw the 21-year-old score the winner against Wycombe Wanderers last week and he also notched again this weekend.

When asked about the striker who has scored 13 goals already this season, McDermott said: “Watch this space.
“I watched him the other day, so we shall see.”

But has he got pace, power and skill comparable to Championship teams? A player can look fast and good in League 2 again slow defenders ....

Only one way to find out, Waster!

He won't break the bank, he's young enough to be 'moulded' and we need one of his ilk (no, not black...)

A cheeky 100k bid to start, I'd say.

From the Guardian;

Stockport County might have fancied their chance but blew it as forcibly as the downfield gale. In no time Andy Halls put Stuart Fleetwood's cross into his own net. Before the interval Stephen Husband was sent off as James McQuilkin's impish feet were twice too quick for him. By then Mathieu Manset had scored his sixth goal in six games. Guillem Bauza's late addition gave the scoreline a truer measure.

Hereford have had a peculiar season. The new manager Simon Davey lasted 10 league games (one win, two draws) before they started again with one of their own. Jamie Pitman, born in Trowbridge, 35 this month, is wedded to Hereford, with a wife from the city and two playing stints with the club before ending his active service as player-coach with Forest Green Rovers.

As injury restrained his first ambition he had set about coaching badges and a part-time degree in physiotherapy, returning to United as sports therapist in 2008. He was well placed to be caretaker in October and the club were well versed to recognise it. After all, Bertie Mee did well enough with Arsenal and Nigel Adkins is now at Southampton via Scunthorpe. David Keyte, who returned from Barbados in April to find United for sale and became chairman and chief shareholder, was a winger for the reserves in the early 70s. As Blackburn may discover, local intelligence can help.

Pitman says of the Premier League: "There's no reality in it." He knows his level and is happy to improve it with Hereford. In December he welcomed the addition of Lennie Lawrence as director of football and lost his caretaker label. "I had a good grounding under Jim Harvey at Forest Green and Graham Turner here but Lennie has valuable experience we were missing," he said. "I needed guidance."

So does the team, mostly young and all free, which he understands. "No one ever paid for me – well, a bag of balls maybe," he says. "No one wanted a holding midfielder. I hope I can draw on the good things I've seen. At times we've lacked knowhow in closing games out." His main worry is keeping his players. Everton and Crystal Palace are looking at Manset.

With this win – and Pitman had not lost at home, just drawn the lot – the Bulls can abandon thoughts of going itinerant like certain cricket clubs. With one flick of their tail they have got a monkey off their back. As Carlo Ancelotti would say, they are "in a good place". Hereford sells itself as "Ancient City of the Marches". The Bulls are ready to march on Sheffield Wednesday in the Cup, never mind up the table.

I share everyone elses view - he is clearly awesome. We may have to buy him at an exhorbitant fee, given the interest in him at the moment. If a prem team really does want him then I think he would choose to go there though, knowing he could always be loaned down to the championship. Lets hope we've stolen a march on everyone though - from BMcD it sounds positive.

prostak I'll just leave this here.

What a load of bollocks....but I'm not surprised by Mr'ism himself posting it.

Why doesn't the artical talk about Gerrard or Keane only being talked about in terms of their power and desire, or why Henry of Ronaldinhio were/are so admired for their grace and balance?

Back to the lad Manset though, I like the sound of him. He's the kind of player we need to add a different option to the samey front line we already have.

I wouldn't mind signing Manset, if he can get up to pace with this level I think him and Long up front together could be a very dangerous partnership. You have to remember he's still young as well so there is a good chance he could become a very good striker for Reading and up moving on for some decent money.

Don't think he's as quick as might be made out on here, or as tricksy skilled. But he does have good feet and he isn't slow from the clips I've seen. A hint of maybe being a bit ponderous, but the guy is huge.

I like, but I wouldn't expect too much too soon if we get him.

...so it looks like 5 teams looking currently...and tbh of the teams being quoted, I think Burnley would be in boxseat , new manager , ideally placed in division and with probably a sizeable transfer kitty for manager.....they could probably offer club more in terms of fee and player more in terms of wages...

If Burnley are gonna sign Austin as rumours suggest, they might not want Manset

Fair point Ferris ...... i guess it depends on Howes kitty - if he has big money to play with Id imagine he'd look at tried and tested players.... Manset doesnt fit that bill...in our favour, maybe the fact that we have Kebe could help, not only for the french connection but also the progress he has made at the club....
