How Many Points after 46 Games?

by Snowball » 05 Feb 2011 11:01

We are on 42 points from 29 games. 17 Games to go

There are a lot of very winnable games. I feel optimistic

Home I can see W6 D2 or better. Away I can see W3 D3 L3 or better = 72 points, but probably more even if we lose at Norwich, Leeds, and Forest. I don't think we will lose all three games, so I'm going for 73-74 points.

HOME

Watford
Millwall
Middlesboro
Preston
Portsmouth
Leicester
Sheffield United
Derby

Away

Norwich
Sheffield United
Crystal Palace
Ipswich
Barnsley

Forest
Scunthorpe
Leeds
Coventry

Basically we need two points a game over the last 17 games. That would be 34 plus 42 equals 76. On current projections it might take this many points to make the play offs this year - although with teams above us having to play each other this target may drop.

Last season we achieved 40 points from the last 20 games - so 2 points a game is possible. There are plenty of winnable games to come before the end of the season.

One thing for sure is that it is likely to go to the wire with 11-12 teams in contention for the top 6.

Are you suggesting we should play with 10 men away from home?

Interesting. We have lost just 7 in 29, (24%) 4 of those (14%) to QPR/Swansea who we don't have to play again

Excluding those two top teams we have lost 3 in 25, (12%) not lost to any other top-eight clubs

Yet, for some reason, despite improving the team with Elwood
and the squad with Manset you think we'll lose 6/17 (35%)

You think our lose-ratio is going to treble?

WHY, exactly?

SLAMMED ^ Maths fail.

3+2+4 = 9 + keeper = 10. = ^ fail claim fail.

I can't believe that's the best you could come up with when I'd made such a patheticly poor joke.

Rescuing this thread from the car crash above, I think I'm in the minority in not really caring to finish in a playoff spot. They've caused us more woe than joy over the years, and in particular I don't think I've yet recovered enough to be able to talk about that Burnley home leg. I reckon on 69-70, which will hopefully be just enough to see us 7th or 8th.

minority? Don't think so!! There are a handfull of people clinging desperately onto play off hopes.

So far over 50% of the people on the board have voted for 70 points or less, all of which will likely mean we will miss the pay offs

I don;t think we'll make it, never have all season, won;t be disappointed when we don't. If we finishes 7th or 8th we wil have beaten my expectations fo rthe season so I will be quite happy

It is my view of what will happen, unlike you I have no need to justify every post with a bunch of meaningless statistics. Oddly our lose ratio is24%, unlike you I look at the entire games played, not blocks of teams. If we do that I can pull up that we have only won 1 game of the 5 we have played against the bottom six, but that might skew your figures.

As I say it's all opinions. I can see 4000 Pompy fans scaring the shite out of RFC. Happened before, and will almost certainly happen again.

So you give no reason why, just you think we will suddenly lose
three times as many games against sides outside the top six

It is what I think will probably happen, I cannot see this lot making a serious bid for the play-offs this season, you on the other hand think they will, so fecking what. Get a fecking life instead of trying to prove you are some sort of genius that is always correct.

Why do people have to give you reasons for what they think? They dont, it is a simple thread, my feeling is that we will fail, therefore we will need to lose games, whereas you would rather sit and bring in a fecking load of stats to show why you are likely to be correct, well guess what, they prove nothing, they show what has happened, football for the future is not reliant on stats from the past, they are an indicator, and so far all the indications are that we will fall short, simples.

FWIW you have not shown why you think we will suddenly win more agains the bottom 6.

One positive after the weekend's results so far is that we've now won three games against the teams ahead of us in the league. :|

Out of 15.
